This video is really really useful. It doesn't just teach the words, but "inherently" it gives a very good overview of Polish grammar as well as Polish pronunciation. So you really learn a lot not realising about it. I read some people complaining about the pace, but for me the dynamic of this video helps me to focus and not getting bored. If I need to listen something more times, I simply scroll back. I've studied Russian for some years by now, so I can tell that helps me, not just because of some words and constructions are slightly similar, but mostly for not getting scared or overwhelmed with all the cases, declinations, and so on. Besides studying, you end up learning such things "naturally" after seeing and listening them thousands of times in movies, books and people. But I must say you teach in a much more clear and "optimizing" way than all the Russian channels I used. Thank you!

I’m Jamaican born and live in London all my life. My wife is Polish. Yes many times people stare. I say hi when it is a curious stare, but just ignore unhappy/angry looks. 95% of time I feel comfortable, but this is generally the same all around Europe & the Middle East. Even in the Caribbean people will stare out of curiosity. If you’re going to be a traveller, this is something you need to expect.

Thank you for your comment and the tip! In my latest video (Adjectives part 1) I changed a bit the approach in presenting the full sentences. I say them three times: 1. normal speed, 2. slow speed with separated words, 3. normal speed. Can you check if this pace is slow enough? Also, you can change the speed of the videos to 0.75 if needed in KZbin settings. Thanks!

Myślę, że skutecznie wybiłaś z głowy naukę polskiego większości słuchaczy. Polska deklinacja i koniugacja jest dla wielu jak skoki narciarskie czy inna hardcorowa dyscyplina sportu. Do tego można dodać różnicę między czasownikiem, a tym samym czasownikiem w formie zwrotnej, np. "załatwić" i "załatwić się". Tym większe uznanie dla tych, którzy ów trud podejmują, nawet jeśli rezultaty są dalekie od oczekiwań ;)

Monica is a very pleasant teacher. Her body language and facial expressions are endearing and lovely. I forced myself to watch the whole video just to have some comparison with Russian and Serbian which i speak at mid to low level. It seems to me that Polish is a strange dialect of Russian which I would not venture to learn on account of the consonant "bunch-up" and some diphthongs like the a and e with "tails" which would be impossible for me to get used to. Nevertheless, I have a Polish friend with whom I can explore the differences among the Slavic languages which interest me. Thank God I am Hungarian! : )

Great job Monika! I’m currently visiting Poland for the 3rd time and your lessons have taught me enough to communicate a little bit and therefore make my stay that little bit better. It makes such a difference to your trips abroad if you can speak the local language. Dziękuję! Ps: if there is a ę at the end of ‘dziękuję’, why does it not sound like we’re saying ‘dzienkujen’? I can’t hear the ‘n’ sound at the end.

Having studied English, Swedish, German, French and Russian and having Finnish as my native lagnuage, all these small words turn into a chaos in my mind. (I dont' speak all of them fluently) So many of them means something else in some other language I have studied. Not knowing even those 100 words of Polish, my translations will be absurd, but hopefully funny. Not even studying, but only being curious, I can even now find lots of interesting similarities to languages I know or can speak. I am not trying to compare them systematically, that would require far deeper knowledge of general linguistics. But it is still interesting to see that things that are thought quite differently in Finnish and English (and Swedish, being relatively closely related), are not that far apart between Finnish and (as far as I understand) Slavic languages. Thus, it seems that words and even sentences can be easy to translate. But translating thoughts and ideas can be far, far complex. (It is midnight. I'd better go to bed and watch my personal, private direct broadcastings without subtitles. Hyvää yötä! [Let there be pieces of a good night!])

Hello! I have a quick question. Is there a difference between “Wziąć” and “Brać”? I have been learning verbs, and when I learned “to take”, I learned the “Brać” form.
@PolishwithMonika
@PolishwithMonika Жыл бұрын
Cześć! "Wziąć" and "brać" both mean "to take". Here is the difference: "Wziąć" is in the perfective aspect (aspekt dokonany) and focuses on one-time action, that is or will be completed. Wezmę prysznic. - I will take a shower. (one-time action) Wzięłam tabletkę. - I took a pill. (one-time completed action) Weź to! - Take it! "Brać" is in the imperfective aspect (aspekt niedokonany) and focuses on frequent or ongoing activities. Rano biorę prysznic. - In the morning I take a shower. (regular activity) Brałam tabletki w czasie choroby. - I took pills during the illness. (frequent action) Bierz, co chcesz! - Take/Grab whatever you want. (in the imperative it is quite similar to "Weź" but "Bierz" maybe sounds a little bit more rude)

Ukrainians started demanding that we say "w Ukrainie" instead of "na Ukrainie" and this is the biggest change, cause virtually all journalists and a significant part of Polish society have changed their language habits so as not to hurt their feelings.
