how thick was the bar? and it spins right?
@targeted19483 жыл бұрын
The bar wasn't too thick, maybe 1 1/2" in diameter would be my guess. The bar spins & is mounted in Ball bearings, that's why it's so much harder than a fixed bar. The 2 minute hang challenge that I go to uses a very large 2" diameter rotating bar, but it's not mounted in Ball bearings. The larger diameter of the bar makes it so you can't get your fingers OVER the bar as much. This means that your hands are mainly pulling down on one side of the bar which causes it to rotate out of your hands. Also you can't put your fingers OVER your thumbs to keep the bar from rotating because the bar is so large. I beat that 2 minute hang challenge 8 times prior to Covid, but only two times after Covid reopening. They sanded & polished the bar (for Covid sanitary purposes?) So now it's very hard to grip the bar.

It's pretty much the same for me. Increasing my weighted pull ups on a set amount of reps does almost nothing for my endurance on body weight pull ups. I still gas out around 15 ish pull ups even though my 1 rep max went from 130% to 180% body weight :) I guess if you really want to do a lot of pull ups you have to train for that specifically.

I am able to do 20 pull ups when I go up and down fast. But can only muster 12 with strict and slow form.
@millacabral94753 жыл бұрын
It would probably do you some good to be more well-rounded in fitness, honestly. It would help you be better at these kinds of challenges and also ninja warrior and general well-being/ longevity. I think you can get to 20 pull ups pretty quickly, but I would really like to see you get your pushups to 30 or more. It would balance out all the crazy pull strength you have and make other pushing-related things you were training for more stable and strong, possibly. I believe there is a benefit to training faster reps, especially for climbing. I used to be a super slow and controlled climber like you (mostly out of fear though), but when I started training power on the campus board and reminding myself to climb faster and not so perfectly, in terms of technique, it actually helped me get through really tiring climbs and figure out beta that would have been literally impossible statically. I'm still not great at dynos (I'm 5' and have weakish legs), but my climbing has massively improved because I'm able to do dynamic moves and catch things way too far for me to get with my feet still on the wall. As a short climber it was essential to develop that, and I'm working on my leg strength and run-and-jumps to be able to do a lot more and not be shut down so easily. "Sloppy" explosive pullups were essential for this, I think.
@jeffstarkman68903 жыл бұрын
I know this is not essential for climbing, but i think doing pushups would be an interesting thing and could maybe help in climbing somehow

@@coalgravel no, I suppose that is controlled by a inner electronic-mechanical equipment . The man hanging on would not feel it’s running, but attributed to stamina
@laeamminlakana-matt56923 жыл бұрын
You'll have to adopt a more speed based technique for maximum reps. You're using a really low speed of lowering yourself, which is good for progress, control, injury avoidance, but takes a lot of endurance off the proper reps. I can barely do a one arm pull up, but I can easily do 20+ if I just go fast. In training I usually go slow but this May I tried to train endurance and got 30 flat in one set by simply working fast rather than super controlled. No actual kipping though, just legs relaced and pulling as fast as my arms and back allow me to, and lowering at practically the same rate haha.
