Okay but have you ever actually spend an entire day climbing on ladders and sweeping the tops of cabinets, or polished the wooden floor on your knees, cleaned out a cast iron casserole, or walked half an hour carrying your shopping home? Back in the early 20th century, daily life demanded a lot more physical activity and regular people had no need or interest in working out.
@sarahmarin32035 жыл бұрын
True dat! Depending on the cleaning tools available, even dusting and sweeping 2-3 rooms can add 5,000 steps to your pedometer/fitbit count. And those extra stetches and squats done to clean high/low areas all add to the calorie burning.

Tbh, the advice from way back when isn't that far out. Walking vigorously rather than slowly is still recommended. Leaving your hair sweaty can damage it. Housework, if done vigorously and long enough, can be great exercise. Regular exercise can increase your appetite a bit (if you're new to exercise) and reducing your calories is actually better than exercise when it comes to losing weight (though you should definitely still incorporate some exercise). The only thing I'd raise an eyebrow at (besides the diet pills) is the belief that women shouldn't lift weights.
@ktoth295 жыл бұрын
Over the years I've found that a lot of old timey exercises that people made fun of as a kid like indian clubs, power walking etc, actually make a lot of sense especially given the time and context. On the other hand I think most modern fitness trends are gimmicks driven by marketing fads, which this video shows pretty well.

"Housework, if done vigorously and long enough, can be great exercise" - this is both true and not true as some of the chores may require you to use moves and posistions that aren't comfortable for your body and done repeatedly over the years may cause more harm than benefit. Also- there is a difference between cleaning up a house and i.e. taking care of a farm. I know many people who were raised on small farms in 50s or 60s and helped with the chores since they were children - all of them have problems with their bones, joints and muscles due to hard work they had to do daily for years. Because no one cared if you were tired, there was work to be done. So the key is to do everything in moderation and being mindful not to harm yourself.

Montse G Kayla Itsines comes to mind just because she is I think the first personal trainer who gained such massive traction by harnessing the power of Instagram back in its early days, really marketing her bikini body guide through the app, and now she’s famous worldwide. She, to me at least, is part of that “fitness movement” on insta that made working out to look lean and to be strong and healthy (as opposed to crash dieting to look anorexically thin) cool. So this video feels incomplete to me as it doesn’t mention that insta movement, Kayla or anyone like her

I actually do the household as a warm up.... carrying the laundry, loading or loading off the dishwasher, taking the garbage out, vacumming... it is a good and useful warm up!

How was the jogging/running craze from the 70's not brought up?? This was more about the fashion than the exercises.

tintinbuffet came looking for this comment. Jogging for fitness was a huge 70s trend.

in the 1990s-2000s indoor cycling was pretty common. There were also step counters starting around 2000.

Has anyone else never even heard of Barry’s Bootcamp?? Seriously, I feel like the 2010’s were so off! It makes me doubt the authenticity of the rest of the video. CrossFit is still huge! Not to mention HIIT, pole fitness, and lifting! Didn’t cycling become a thing like 20 years ago? 🤔 Like what granny does cycling?

I'm a big exercise lover and my favorite exercise style is most like the 60s - rebounding (strategic bouncing on a mini trampoline), pilates and light weight lifting :)

It is a little bit disgusting that in the video appears the names of those ones who creates a trend or did something about exercise but with the creator of zumba you only put an aerobic instructor, why didn't you put the name of the creator that is BETO PEREZ?

N M. If you struggle with dark armpits(and you shave), try switching to waxing. I did, and it honestly made my life much easier!
@Kikua16125 жыл бұрын
I don’t think you should worry about armpit lightness, however, that being said, lemon juice is said to help lighten the skin and acts as an antibacterial. If you do use that then make sure you wash it off thoroughly before you expose armpits to sunlight as the lemon juice also makes your skin sensitive to UV rays, causing skin damage.
