6:50 You said if the sun disappeared, all the planets would continue on a path tangent to their last position "instantaneously" but that would not be the case. Gravity waves/gravity's influence travels, at the speed of light, so Earth would go off course around 8 minutes after the sun disappeared. What's interesting about this is that even though Earth would not be orbiting the sun anymore, the farther planets would keep orbiting for more time more, and we'd be able to see that.

It's called hyper-focusing, it's very common and it happens to me all the time uncontrollably, it occurs when someone is performing a task that interests them (Like playing a sandbox game) and they go on for hours just experimenting and frequently ask themselves questions like, "What happens if I do this?" In fact, I'm hyper-focusing right now trying to educate people.

The sad part about the fragments crashing into earth thing is that we wouldn’t die then. We’d already be dead. The moon being so close to earth would disrupt a crap load of gravity, yeah. But the true insanity is that when the moon gets smaller, the tides change. Huge tidal waves would bombard not just the coasts, it would go into mainland. Think if you took the tip of panhandle Florida, it would most likely go up to Georgia, if not more. The weather would increase in intensity, with storms 5 times the power of a hurricane occurring as common as a normal rainfall, with even more intensity over time. We would have to hide in bunkers just to escape the 140 mph winds, which would destroy most wildlife and plants. Eventually everything and everyone would be ripped to shreds, and that’s just talking about weather. It would also create a gravity well, so before the moon hit the earth, (if you were on the right part of earth) you would get ripped off the ground and have your skin ripped off your bones. This is just the research I’ve done though. Read up on it if you want, it’s crazy.

Fun fact: The Suns Texture is actually a picture of beans.
@almicc
@almicc 6 жыл бұрын
If the Sun outright disappeared, it would be a LOT cooler than what you showed. Let me explain... Gravity, like all other forces, travels at the speed of light. This means that, on Earth, we would have absolutely no way of knowing the Sun was gone until 8 minutes after it has vanished. We would literally be seeing and orbiting a ghost. At the same time, Mercury, Venus and the Sun would seemingly go dark at the same moment from our perspective, and Venus and Mercury would simultaneously start traveling in a straight line, despite both planets experiencing the Suns non-existence at "different times" relatively speaking. The eerie part is that if we turn around and face Mars, Saturn, Jupiter and the other planets, we could still see them orbiting normally and shining bright in the sky with the last few rays of light that ever left the Sun. Saturn would be visible to the naked eye for the longest time, still shining brightly with all its rings for over 2 hours after our skies go dark. And then, we would witness perhaps the most extraordinary part of the whole event, Saturn's rings fading away slowly. At the speed of light, it would take slightly less than a second to travel from one end of Saturn's rings to the next, meaning that if you are looking at Saturn the moment it starts going dark, you would see it fade out, front to back, over about a second. Relatively speaking, this would be the only time during the disappearance of the Sun that you could actually witness the slow speed of light, as all other planets would seem to instantly vanish, Saturn would be the only one to seemingly evaporate out of the sky. TL;DR: It would look a lot like Thanos snapped his fingers to evaporate the solar system at the speed of light.

Hey mark, I love the video, seeing you nerd out about space is literally my favourite part of the channel. There is one thing I'd like to point out, as far as I'm aware (I could be wrong) our sun will not go supernova due to its mass not being high enough. It will expand into a red giant consuming the inner planets before shrinking back down to a dwarf. (This is what I learned growing up, as I was as obsessed with space as you are today)

Which is mildly disappointing but it's not like we'd be able to see our planet being burned down to ashes in a blast of blue and red anyway. I guess. Kinda scary.

Well actually the thing is your only partly right all stars will supernova their mass is irrelevant as long as they are a star they will blow up What their mass chooses is the outcome So the higher masses will mean a black hole Lower ones will be nuetron stars or white dwarfs Saldy the expansion of the sun does happen with all stars and that alone will be the death of earth

At about the 34 minutes mark the water on the earth started disappearing the reason to that is smaller black holes release more radiation proportionally usually causing really small black holes to start heating everything around them from 1000s of degrees to potentially millions
