Darth Sion redeemed himself in a way that I always found interesting. Sion's redemption by letting go of everything reminds me a lot of what Darth Vader did. In the end, Vader let go of his fear and hatred, and that is what ultimately turned him back into Anakin Skywalker at the end of Return of the Jedi.

I don’t agree I think it stems from not understanding “power”. Power means, “to be able to” it’s the noun form of “can” I can, you can, he/she/it can Pouvoir in French Poder in Spanish Etc Jedi seek power over themselves Sith seek power over the external world So no, the way Jedi masters don’t let go of power isn’t the same as the way a sith doesn’t. But hey, few people understand the word “power” so I almost don’t blame you

I am so so happy this video is not about Andor. I feel like Sion's story is very poetic. His anger and hatred gave him something to live for and in the end he found something to die for. I see it as he had to let himself die otherwise his hate would not let him stop until he killed the Exile. A great message of how love can overcome hate.

Well there is a big difference between Vader and Sion. We know that there was still good in Vader and that was clearly because he still loved Padme and that love was what Luke sensed in him. Love is what saved Luke (and Leia as well) from the Emperor. Darth Sion has an unknown quality about him in this regard. Was there something from his own past that the Exile tapped into with her words? Something that the game left unsaid? Or was it something else? This exchange between the Exile and Sion is the best in the game but a little more information on Sion could have proven to be an even more powerful exchange between the two.

I disagree in the ‘good in Vader’ as we never see any until the end. He murdered his wife and sought to destroy everything she valued. Vader didn’t die good, he only sacrificed himself upon realizing that he had nothing left to lose… I never bought Vader’s so called conversion. He and Sion are exactly alike as depicted in this video.

The thing to remember is that Sion and Kreia both "love" the Exile because she did what they could not. She turned away from the Force, rejected it completely, something that they could never do. It's like a drug addict meeting a recovered addict. The Triumvirate were all victims of the Force, all hated it, and so Meetra (someone who defeated the "addiction") was beautiful and precious to them. Ironically, while the Jedi feared Meetra, the Sith loved her. Moreover: I agree that Sion redeemed himself (or was redeemed, take your pick), but disagree about the "Light". I've never liked this forced duality of Light and Dark when it comes to the Force, especially since the Jedi themselves rarely describe it like that. There is no "Light", no warm fuzzy feeling or honking great beam of sunlight. There is only the Force, which is infinitely more complex and mysterious. Sion didn't become "good" through his redemption. The Exile just helped him let go of his pain and finally find peace in death to become one with the Force.

Fully agreed. Sion's death was never a redemption to me, nor even a happy ending. Being "glad" to die after a lifetime of pain is not what I would call a happy ending. I'd call it a sad ending to a sad life, when you consider all the things He had to experience, and all the things that he may in fact have never experienced. He never embraced love or compassion, not willingly. Even in his last moments, he was resisting those feelings. He let go of his hate - for his own sake, for a moment of relief - and that was it. Now that you mention it, "Light Side" never sounded right to me either. Even grammatically. You'd think "Bright Side of the Force" would be the name for the other aspect. Or simply "the Light". But this game is nonetheless a perfect example about how the actions, faith, or beliefs of a Jedi or a Sith are not so black-and-white. And I always love seeing how even today, people appreciate this game for what it is.

Cailus3542 said what I wanted that sith of the KOTOR2 all loved/admired Exile for being what they weren't able to become. Dark side of the force is supposed to help you break the chains and be free, but it's not at all the case, since you start to rely on the Force for your own power. But it wasn't the case with the Exile. Through her unique connection and willpower she was the truly free person, one every sith beliving in the sith code wanted to become. And she was feared by the jedi and treated by them as a freak of nature. Naturally, since they openly, even more than sith (who are shown in KOTOR2 basically as hopeless addicts, destroyded completely by their addiction) are addicted to the Force, no willpower or drive to bend it under their will, just go with the flow junkies who also believe that their way is the ONLY right way to be force sensitive. I love it, I love the Exile since it's a character magnitudes more complex than Revan. And I will forever truly hate Drew Fatfuck Karpyshyn for turning the Exile into a random Revan's servant nr 32 and killing her off like she's some worthless shitstain. An author too moronic to even understand what he did, how he took a dump with his fat ugly ass on a better writer's work.

I disagree there. Sion did not hold the light or dark. Partly because Treya did not teach light or dark. The "redemption by death" trope can work, but it needs to serve the story like Vader and Sion, and not be done for no reason besides tradition. Lost Stars is one of the best Star Wars novels, in part because ambiguous but hopeful ending. A far better ending than either Rise of Skywalker and Jedi Fallen Order which forced the redemption by death trope in a way that didn't serve the story and only threw away any intetesting potential future character arcs for tradition.

Kotor 1 and 2 are so rich and it's got a depth to it that most games or anything lacks especially in Star Wars.. ESPECIALLY as unfinished games. Sion I don't think found redemption what he found was more precious and that is peace. Being redeemed would require one to know what they had done was inherently evil, and he never challenges his actions. Traya, Nihilus, and Sion weren't Sith in my eyes but slaves to the dark side more entities than actual beings with feasible goals. Sion was possessed by pain as much as Nihilus was possessed by hunger, and Traya with betrayal. Kotor 2 was a look into the dark side, and I think there's no coincidence in how all three mirror aspects of Vader.

Amazing and astounding video my friend. However I do have to disagree that Darth Sion has a redemption arc at the end of KOTOR 2 similar to Darth Vader. Sion by the end of game is broken, tired and in constant pain...he failed to prove to Kreia that he was more than the Jedi Exile. I don't doubt that Sion had feelings for Meetra and she was able to convince him to let go of the force and to show what true strength really is. I didn't see Sion's death as a sacrifice to save Meetra and enabling her to defeat Darth Traya. Darth Vader story arc is true redemption to save his son Luke Skywalker from the Emperor and redeem himself as person

If you take Vader's actions at face value; there is no redemption arc -he killed the Jedi and Republic to save his wife, and he killed the Emperor and Empire to save his son. His actions/motives were not based on a good-evil paradigm but one of self interest; which you could argue is bad/evil but would apply to both his "fall" and "Redemption". Sion is somewhat more of a "redemption", he sacrifices everything he had held important for no implicit personal gain.
@TY-km8hj
@TY-km8hj 2 жыл бұрын
Finding peace and freeing himself from his constant pain would be a selfish goal, would it not? I'd say there was definitely personal gain there. "I'm glad to be rid of this place... at last"
@LENZ5369
@LENZ5369 2 жыл бұрын
@@TY-km8hj Yes but it was more of a 'silver lining' than a primary goal/motive, his goals were pretty much to be powerful/immortal/etc. and the pain/hate/etc. was the fuel for those goals, he had already tolerated/used it for a very long time by then. He didn't do something "good" but he chose to stop doing "evil" just to get what he wanted; knowing that it will end him (and his ambitions). So yeah, not a "redemption" exactly imo but pretty close and way closer than Vader.

【Shades Finnish Pirates】I tried to play as a female but did not like it so i quit but i made it to Darth Sion, i was shocked how different reaction he had and was sure that he was in love with my character from the moment he met her. If this is not a redemption arc, then what is and i won't accept Darth Vader's story to be compared. Let's leave Mr. G. Luca's Star Wars to the 6 movies he made, he himself said that that's his Star Wars and all the rest is Star Wars Expanded so i think there is not a to my knowledge as sure redemption arc than Darth Sions. Ben Solo in the new Star Wars movies had a redemption arc, i think his character was only decent one and still the story did not do him justice. I would like to avoid using Kylo Ren / Ben Solo too from comparing, i don't know Starkillers story so i can''t speak of that but there are not a lot of sith's who turn away from the Dark Side and i think Darth Sion truly was one that turned away from eternal life in the Dark Side

Perhaps in the sense of correcting an error as a person is Sion redeemed in that sense, but he *certainly* isn't redeemed in the sense of no longer being evil I'd say. I feel thar requires more proactive actions on a morale level, and clear regret for the misdeeds one has caused. Here it seems sion regrets being a servant in general rather than being a servant of evil.

Loved your analysis of Darth Scion (both this and the previous one about his relationship with the Exile) Looking at the character drives, I can't help but reflect on a majorly influential work in history called "Consolation of Philosophy" by Boethius. (he was a Theologian who lived at the fall of Rome.) His work forms the backbone of Tolkien's philosophy in Lord of the Rings as well. Short version: He argues that vice/evil are ultimately self defeating in that while they promise fulfillment, they only deprive people of it. leaving them more empty (and hungry in the case of Darth Nihilus) the more you partake in it. If you have not read it, there is a brilliant discussion by Signum University president Corey Olsen. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZrNpaSKeqijbdk I highly recommend it, it fits right in with your discussions of Scion's character drives. Sion was driven to that point by something...not because of the dark side...he served Exar Kun...great that's cool....served Revan....ok? He was at Malachor when he served Revan but didn't really say he served him AFTER Malachor...so did he serve light side or dark side Revan?
