I am not your typical BTS reactor. I dive DEEP into BTS's music and lifestyle have discussions with YOU during my videos. I bring a great deal of life experience, including my experience in education as a teacher and elementary school principal, into all of my reactions and discussions.
Rather than just privately listening to their music on my own, I’d rather share the entire process with YOU! The goal here is to continue diving deeper into the BTS rabbit hole and learn new insights! Your recommendations are welcomed!

Never think they’ll be a typical group where every song has same line distribution 😂. BTS says they go through the song trying out different parts, different distributions until it sounds like what they want. We have so many quotes/lives on that topic because antis like to pick up on it and twist it. Some songs members will have a larger parts, but don’t discount the whole effect- each plays a huge part in the overall song. That’s where the magic happens, even if the actual vocal, etc. is not the longest, the contribution is incredibly impactful to the song.

The meaning of "No more Dream", is that when you were a kid you had a lot of dreams but when you grow up those dreams disappear, what you want are material things, things that can be easily achieved. A person has to keep dreaming even though he grows up. In 2013 J-Hope explained the concept behind the lyrics of “No More Dream”. "It's about the concern that people our age have for dreams and the future," said the 19-year-old. “We are always studying so much that we don't have the opportunity to think about what we want to do." thank you for you reaction!

It's so fun to see them do the song in 2013 vs 2020 🙉 they have grown so much, but killed it in 2013 as well. Jungkook are an amazing rapper also, did you know he is the sub rapper? you will see more of him rapping in older videos, I hope to see more of rapper Jungkook in the future also.

I love this song. I also love that they still perform this song especially since it is their debut song. The change in all of the voices too, having so much experience now. And of course JK now that he is a lot older. That dance break to one of my favorites too.

Ah... Rapper Jungkook... I miss him.. You will hear rapper JK in their older song. From what we hear from the boys, they give a line from the song, to the one who can sing it the best. In their old song, the most line go to JK, RM, and Suga.. For debut song, they so brave to talk about this issue. Follow it with N.O. I love them. Enjoy the reaction

I felt so bad for J hope during the choreo version mv as they insisted he wear that stupid spiked mask and he had to keep pulling it down and up or adjusting it whenever he sang or danced a lot lol! I’m pretty sure I recall him saying something about not wanting to wear it either at some point. Also, V and Jin shared the same two lines during this song, V sang these lines the first round and Jin the second....they seemed to do that in the earlier tracks as in War of Hormones they did it as well.

I love how they came out with substance and hard-hitting social criticism right from the very start. I don't know many artists who perform their old music to this day, but BTS' rework their older work into their current music and re-explore ideas to track how their thoughts have changed over time. It's just a fascinating way of making music. Their discography literally serves as a collective diary recording their thoughts over the years. And I loved seeing their live performances of No More Dream in different years. It was so powerful seeing how they've grown up and the kind of power they hold. It really blows my mind. As for the choreo, the hours they put into that knife-like precision is so evident. They work so hard on synchronizing that you could never say that there's a weak link. The kind of skill and ability it takes to be able to keep up with such insane choreography must be out of this world. I've always been so proud of their work over the years. They always stood for something and spoke up for the crushed spirit, whether it be through tough love asking us to wake up and take control of our lives, or by empathising and reminding us that we're not alone. There's something so viscerally powerful about how they know the words we need to hear, and they're never afraid to say them, even when it was risky for them to do so. They really were the coolest kids in the world back then. They always had mind-blowing charisma. Even when their reach was smaller, those who heard them wanted to shout it from the roof tops. You could here that passion in the fan chants even in their earlier performances. And now look at them, they have become adults who have resonated with and inspired millions, yet never forgot what it was like to be looked down on, so they still fight the good fight. If you can't tell, I'm beyond proud of them. Words cannot express how incredible I think each one one of them is.. I'm in this for life.

Their growth physically and artistically is so obvious with this song (nobody puts Hobi in a mask!). Also, that was a great comment about that “domino” dance move as a potential metaphor in this song-it makes a lot of sense.

The dance practices are mandatory! It's hard to appreciate how much training goes into their performances when the music videos don't show the entire choreo. Especially impressive that even for music videos without dancing, they have whole choreos for live performances.

It always reminds me the days when RM still had a Mohawk head 😆. And JHope thought wearing a mask would have less critics about his look and forgot those were haters no matter what he did. But now, just a new youtube released talking JHope is an unreal handsome member alongside with Jin and TaeTae. A new line of BTS called the Ethereal Line. 😆.

OMG. The last performance at the concert in Japan from 2016 is just sepctacular. At the end of a 3-hour long concert, they must be exhausted, but they're still performing, dancing and giving great facials and attitude. J-hope's part in the dance break lives rent-free in my mind. There's J-hope and there's performer-J-hope-on-stage, woooah! The crowd control is amazing. Chalfant, you gotta watch the performances that came right before this ("Boyz with fun" and "attack on bangtan". Link kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6mcdoh3i9xgnq8) - sorry, if I've recommended this too many times. My absolute favorite performance from BTS, because it JAM PACKED with personality, fun, energy and just great interaction with the crowd.

Astute observation about V - his skills (vocally and dance) were not fully utilized until much later, like years later. Early BTS vocally, V was really just growling - the song selections later allowed him to develop his range between baritone to the insane high notes, and also to sing with much more confidence and strength in the live performances. He was also formally added to the dance line later (it was the three J's at first - J-Hope, Jimin, Jungkook and then V was added in 2015/2016 - ARMY can correct me if I'm wrong).

Yes, if you look into BTS’s whole discography, V, Jin, Jhope have been the ones to get the least no of lines overall. And back then V was only given lines where he had to growl and not sing sing even though people loved his singing voice a lot . they used his growling voice because it used to give a punch to these hip hop songs and even because his voice is crazy deep . if you react to their old music you won’t see much of V singing ! im an ultimate tae bias stan so ik the struggle because everytime when we know that they are gonna make a comeback , i just pray that tae gets atleast 2-3 lines in the songs.😂😂 But rn everything is going well and they all seem to have good amount of lines so i’m happy 💜

I feel you. As a Tae biased I couldn't even enjoy most of the old songs since I don't even see and hear him. In the latest album tho, he had been given a really good amount of lines, hopefully it will continue like that. His voice brings so much to the group, him being the only baritone is actually such a benefit for the whole group. It brings such freshness among the tenors. And he always managed to go viral with few seconds screen time. I complain a lot but I know Jin biased fans still have that sadness and worry about not seeing him in comeback and MVs. And I mean they are right considering Jin was hardly seen in Dynamite MV which was literally in 2020. It has been seven years, they better use Jin's vocals and visuals more, same with Tae he brings so much uniqueness to the group, hope they use both of them..

For any of their really early video's they were posted officially on 1TheK with subs rather than on BigHit's channel. I think Jin and V had equal parts in this dong. They both got the same single line if I'm not mistaken. Back then when BTS' music was more hip hop centric (not that it isn't still so today but they do a lot of other genres but the themes are still hip hop centred), the rappers and Jungkook averagely had the most parts in songs. This was their debut song and you can see that RM, Suga and JK are the most highly featured followed by Jimin and Jhope. By 2014 V's sort of deep growly voice was utilized more and J-hope got more definitive parts. And as they tried different genres whoever fit best was given the spotlight so for songs like Spine Breaker (2014) V sings the main lead parts with Jungkook coming in now and then leaving Jimin and Jin with very small parts. I think around 2016 was when most songs started being evenly distributed in terms of lines. Of course even now there are certain songs where some members get a lot more lines and others get less but it has to do with who sounds best on the track as RM has said.

‘No More Dream’ is the song for excellence about the need to break with the restrictions of society. More specifically, it requires a sense of rebellion in today's youth. This is especially true if you want to achieve your dreams. The lyrics speak of big houses, cars and rings. School and boring public works are ridiculed. BTS resists the imposition of other people's dreams. Doing what you love seems to be the key message here. I remember when you reacted to a Suga document where he is on radio and he mentioned when his parent, had wanted he would become in a public worker. His parent didn´t like he could go on with his music dream. But RM and Jhope suffered from the same imposition from some members of their families, too. "No More Dream" was written in 2012 by RM, SUGA and one of the former members, Donghyuk (Supreme Boi). The lyrics were rewritten by them more than 22 times. In their pre-debut, everyone wrote more than 100 songs, for their training, all together and individually, even by Rap Monster and suga. Yes, Jungkook could rap pretty good. He can do at the moment too. Thank you, Chalfant!!!!

What shocks me (still) is how HUNGRY BTS was out of the gate - it's self-evident in the 'No More Dream' dance practice. I've been watching a lot of TXT dance practices and while they are young, energetic, and they are super coordinated in their steps, BTS (then and now) has MASSIVE swag and they look like they want to devour you! And while not all the members are great dancers, you overlook that because as always, they work as a unit and the choreo was designed to look at the group as a unit, not at the individuals. We of course learn about who they are (their names, their roles, etc.) but first impression was BANG!

According to SUGA, ( 20 years old at the time), said: "Coming up with lyrics that bring together two seemingly disparate worlds like gangsta rap and studying too much took several tries. Rap Monster and I rewrote the lyrics to ‘No More Dream’ more than 20 times because it was the title track… until we got what we wanted with the song, ”said SUGA. And ´V´said he appreciates the time his fellow members invested in the lyrics. He added: "I loved the song as soon as I heard it" said V. "At first I did not know how much time they had invested in it, but after knowing it, I am very grateful to them." the song and performance were a beautiful start!!! thank you!!!!

Oh since you were doing such a long video on this song I had hoped that you would do the Armypedia performance for it. It's a sit down performance. I think they may have shortened it a bit. They don't do the whole song there. Though I suppose if you do Armypedia you might as well just do the whole performance rather than just the one for No More Dream. I think the whole performance is like 10 minutes long. It's mostly their older songs that they do though so maybe it would be best to hold off until you know the three songs. The set list is No More Dream, Just One Day, and I Like it. I think you've heard Just One Day already though so I Like It is the only one you're not familiar with. Maybe you should just go ahead and watch the performance. Do it in your own time though. I just thought seeing them sit to perform this song would be interesting for you.

The official audio is different than the performed one because BigHit gave one of Tae’s line to Jin and Jin’s original lines to Jungkook during the chorus, and Jimin’s lines after the LaLaLaLa parts are actually Namjoon’s. It’s hella confusing, but i’m gonna try finding a color coded video that is actually accurate and i’ll add the link here so you can check it out I found this one, is not a 100% accurate tho because it still gives Tae’s line to Jin at 2 : 03 but everything else is fine kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZ6cpHZnqa2lfKM

Hi Chalfant. I would say that it was extremely daring of them to start with such a message considering the political context of the time in South Korea where going against the order prescribed by the society, the big3 and the government was very badly seen and even sanctioned. You did a very good job of research and introspection but you missed a legendary performance of this track that they had prepared especially for an SBS ceremony but as at the time they were often cut and ignored, it was not broadcast on their YT channel so BTS released it on BangtanTV, it's really worth the detour, totally dignified of MJ's productions. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGPVhGmsjaajfJI Here is everything you need to know about this track. « No more dream » is the lead single that BTS debuted with in 2013. It was received with strong impressions within the K-Pop industry, for it’s honest and motivational lyrics, and it’s authenticity (compared to other K-Pop songs at the time). It is also BTS’s first title track, and the fourth track off of BTS’s debut album, 2 Cool 4 Skool. Just like the title suggests, the self-penned song, along with its strong hip-hop beat, criticized the lack of passion in young people, and their lack of dreams. It reminisces 1990s gangster rap songs, remade with a contemporary style. On 12 June 2013. BTS made their first live performance at the Ilji Art Hall in Cheongdamdong. Promotions for the song started when the first teaser was released on June 6, 2013. Following that, the second teaser was released on June 9, 2013, three days later. The official MV was released on June 11, 2013, two days before BTS’s official debut. On June 12, 2013, one day before BTS’s official debut in South Korea, they showcased a live performance of “No More Dream” at their press release. A day later, BTS performed “No More Dream” on M Countdown, marking their official South Korea debut. Promotion attempts for the song proved to be successful, and the song made headlines, despite the group being rookies and coming from a small and almost bankrupt company. The song peaked at number 14 on the Billboard World Digital Songs. However, the song received a lot of negative backlash as well. Some antis claimed that BTS was imitating another Hip-Hop orientated K-pop group, Big Bang. In a 2019 reaction video of BTS reacting to their debut stage, Seokjin commented on how South Korea netizens jeered at No More Dream’s Hip Hop concept by implying that it was old fashioned, and embarrassing. HEY, WHAT'S YOUR DREAM? HEY, WHAT’S YOUR DREAM? HEY, WHAT'S YOUR DREAM? HEY, IS THAT YOUR DREAM? The repetitiveness of this line implements how the mindset of dreaming big is stressed to individuals as they grow up. The concept of dreaming big has a growing relevancy in the 21st century. Although it is something meant to inspire people to build their character and reach their goals, the pressure it induces can be overwhelming, especially for the younger generation. From a young age, a person’s told to dream big, to set their futures to a high standard, yet once they age and mature their dreams are often shot down as unreasonable, not profitable, etc. In addition, the possibility of failing said dreams along with the fact that a great deal of luck plays into reaching them, the reality of this innocent idea of reaching for the sky falls short of expectation. BTS criticize this hypocritical society. As a debut song for a group coming from a small company, the song takes on another meaning as well. BTS were ridiculed for being too ambitious, and this song counteracts the Korean media that claimed they were destined to fail. As an anthem for choosing individual paths in life, BTS debuted with the concrete goal of being themselves and defying the standards they were set to. This concept is further developed in later songs like Agust D’s 2016 track “So Far Away” and their 2018 track “낙원 (Paradise).” While “No More Dream” expresses a bitter reaction to the reality of dreaming big, these songs reveal a variety of mixed emotions. « It’s alright to stop There’s no need to run without even knowing the reason It’s alright to not have a dream If you have moments where you feel happiness for a while » I WANNA BIG HOUSE, BIG CARS & BIG RINGS BUT IN REALITY, I DON'T HAVE ANY BIG DREAMS In the first two lines, when SUGA raps about his “superficial dreams”, he confesses that he doesn’t have any big dreams. While writing this song, RM had also confessed to not having any big dreams in middle school. « My thoughts is that people in their 10’s are the same now as they were back then. They continue to not have dreams, don’t want to study, and have no idea what it is that they want to do. They just want to become a civil servant or make a lot of money. […]“A student that just studies hard even though they don’t have a dream” is exactly who I was. » Thus we see a recurring theme to this song-young people grasping with the “superficial” dreams that they have, which really is just the standard of a stable life that society has forced onto them. Get good grades, graduate, go to a good university, and get a good job. At 2018 SBS Gayo Daejun, Yoongi changes “I wanna” to “let’s go”. They have it all now- big house, big cars & big rings. Their hard work earned them success and they now have what they wanted. HAHA I LIVE AN EASY LIFE This might be referring to how people think K-pop idols (or just idols in general) live a easy life with luxury, comfort and pleasure at every step, when in reality it’s long hours of hard work, injuries, scandals etc. WHEN WE WERE STILL YOUNG I SAID I'LL GO TO SOME UNIVERSITY RM’s parents wanted him to go to college instead of doing music, especially his mom, because he was really smart and he was even preparing for college entrance exams. WHY DON'T YOU SAY ANYTHING? YOU DON'T WANT TO STUDY YOU'RE TOO AFRAID TO QUIT THE SCHOOL, RIGHT? SEE, YOU'RE GETTING READY FOR SCHOOL GROW UP, DON'T JUST TALK, YOU HAVE A WEAK MIND BOY Jungkook left the comforts of his home and went to Seoul to pursue his career in dancing and singing at the age of 15, and he’s been working ever since. He is the embodiment of someone who has the courage to pursue his own dreams as opposed to just following whatever society expects him to do. He is uniquely qualified to rap this verse. FUTURE JOB NUMBER ONE, PUBLIC OFFICIALS? A job that is considered to be stable and is what many parents want their children to be, rather than jobs like being an idol, singers, or other “risky” careers. IT'S NOT A FORCED DREAM, A RELIEF PITCHER This phrase ‘It’s not a forced dream…’ tells people that they shouldn’t have a fake dream or something that others told them to do. They should have their own ambition which is their own choice and that will make them happy. This links to the context that some BTS members weren’t supported by their parents and others when they wanted to become idols. However, they pursued their dreams and worked hard. They didn’t listen to the dreams their parents gave them. Instead they listened to their own dreams. This is clear in the line ‘Adults and parents tell us the same dream’. This might also connote that if you have a dream you should do everything you can to achieve it. It might be telling us to chase our dreams and we will reach successfulness; BTS chased their dreams and they are now the best boy band in the music industry! The metaphor ‘relief pitcher’ means that they shouldn’t put those dreams to save them when they couldn’t achieve theirs. This links back to the inference earlier about chasing your dreams. It tells us to never give up and keep going until you reach it. If you do not reach it then you are simply taking the given dream as a second choice and that shouldn’t be the case. You should only have one thing in mind and that is the only thing that is best for you. This might also be saying that life is like a baseball game (relief pitchers are used in baseball when someone has to enter the game due to the current player’s injury or any other reason for being removed). The reason why life might be like a baseball game is because you have one aim in the game, which is to win the game for your team in order to be the best team in the league. That is exactly like how our aims should be like: we should only have one main one that we try our best to achieve. THROW A FASTBALL TO THE SELF-STUDY TIME THAT IS A WASTE OF TIME Original Lyrics 시간낭비인 야자에 돌직구를 날려 ‘야자’ or ‘yaja’ is an abbreviation of ‘야간자율학습시간’ or ‘Yagan Jayul Hagseub Shigan’ which means night self-study. It was introduced as a form of after-school schooling when South Korea was struggling with the university entrance under the rule of former President Chun Doo-hwan who banned tutoring and supplementary classes for current students by implementing educational reform measures on July 30, 1980. During 1981-1998, a school notorious for keeping students until the night and forcibly making them study. The regular class time was from 8-9 AM to 5 PM, and then ‘yaja’ until 9-10 PM after dinner. Some high schools still have it and students can’t leave unless they have valid excuses. ‘돌직구’ or ‘Doljikku’ is formed by combining ‘돌’ or stone and ‘직구’ or fastball, refers to a very strong fastball which is also slang for a straightforward and blunt comment. TO ALL THE YOUNGSTERS WITHOUT DREAMS It’s okay to live without a dream and to still be happy. This sentence rings with the message of Paradise from Love Yourself: Tear.
