Picked up this pair of studio monitors for free. Both powered up, but had some problems. One of the speakers had some output, but form tweeter only. The problem turned out to be with a corrosive glue, which was supposed to keep components from vibrating. The glue was scraped off, the board was cleaned with alcohol, a few corroded components were replaced and a couple of bad electrolytic capacitors were found and replaced. Both amplifiers were tested with a function generator and oscilloscope. Unfortunately, it turned out that one of the tweeters is dead. Perhaps a malfunctioning amplifier put out DC voltage and killed it. No replacement was found so far. Part number is TWTK00012.

Spot on, as always. Hope you will find the replacement pair somewhere. I usually check Visaton, the OEM for many brands, but they are far from cheap.

Yes it does for all all model

This type of glue is not used in the Rokit 6 update model (RP6G3). Additionally there are other changes such as cabinet, woofer color, etc.

How did you remove the glue? Solvent , wire brush or scraping ?

Mostly careful peeling and scraping. The glue was quite brittle in most places. I had to desolder a few components to get access in some places.

@@feedback-loop Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. I can see the reason for gluing down big caps but why did they slather that stuff all over the place. Makes no sense. Just makes repair harder.

sometimes you can fix the coil in the speaker i did that with my sony speakers that i was given for free a wire broke between the plastic holder and the coil it vibrated off.

Just fit any old pair of tweeters that fit on both of them and be done with it. Or rewind the coil of the shorted one if it's accessible. Or you can ask KRK directly.

Eh... maybe depends on how good you want them to sound! I think they should be a matched pair with Fs and efficiency about the same as the originals.
