...1440p or 1080p or whatever resolution doesnt tell you, how a sharp a picture on the monitor is. In fact, sharpness means pixels per inch. A 32" 1440p monitor has the same "sharpness" as a 24" 1080p. So you always need to compare the size of the panel too...

*Exactly what i was thinking, unfortunately nobody is making high PPI displays, Apple has them (Retina displays), but they have a high latency I believe. I am very disappointed by all this high resolution crap, they end up giving you a TV with horrible PPI, they need to release a 24" 4K/1440p then I will be interested.*

Have fun reading text on that, I think 27-28 inchs is ideal, infact 30-32 for 4k still has a pretty high PPI.

so whats the best 1440p monitor to buy and size sir? Im looking for a ultra wide monitor but these prices are insane for these monitors. Im gonna be using a gtx1070 so I want to game on a higher resolution than 1080p but 4k gaming is just too demanding so i figured Ill be in between. Also I do video editing on my other channel so the ultra wide is going to very helpful. Any thoughts on whats the best bang for the buck?

There's an idea I'd like to add. I bought my first 25 inch monitor almost two years ago. I was so excited. It was 1080p, and all sorts of stuff looked like fuzzy crap. Bumped it up to 2K and everything was sharp again. It's as simple as that.

This is the only video that I could find, that directly compares windows size. Upgrading from 768p, I really wanted to know how much increased workspace I could get. Now it seems like 1080p is still not large enough, everything looks way too big even in 24" monitor. Thanks a lot for this! Would be great if you can compare with 4k as well at 32" :).

The only thing I can say is that it deciding between the two is: How far away from the screen are you? If you have a 27" 1440p Monitor, you will have 108 ppi (pixels per inch for the nubs that may read this) and a 21" 1080p display will give you 104 ppi. Both come in 144hz versions and are good for gaming. If you are closer to your display, go 1080p and save some money. If you don't have fantastic vision or you're gonna be a two or three more feet away from the display, go 1440p and give yourself the size boost. As long as you keep your display above 100ppi, it should look fantastic. However, I can say that 2160p is, at this point, completely pointless unless you have two 1080Tis. 2160p is limited to 60hz currently and most cards struggle to accomplish Ultra Graphics or even High on some titles at 2160. 1440p is great for people with larger desks, but for people like myself, who only play about 2 feet from their display, 1440 is a pointless endeavor.

1440p @ 27" against 1080p @ 24" is perfect as you wouldn't go any higher than 1080p @ 25" due to reduced pixels and actually being able to see the pixels, although I wish you had shown more examples of gameplay pixels between the two. Nevertheless, great comparison.

@Warbaby_
@Warbaby_ 7 жыл бұрын
Resay Dota depends what games you play. If you're playing games like the Witcher 3, expect to get around 30-40fps on maxed out settings. I have Gtx 1070 paired with an I7 6700k @4.2 GHz and I'm only hitting around 60fps. I would stick with your 1080p screen unless you're fine with either upgrading your graphics card or fine with 30~fps for AAA games.

André Sjögren generally GTX 1060's are for getting 60+fps on max settings at 1080p, whereas only getting maybe 35+fps at 1440p. I'd go for a 1080p monitor with 144hz refresh rate.

Dear bro.. well done.. liked & supported.👍🏻I know that 1080p on a 27" is not perfect BUT if you're on a tight budget and getting a heavy discount for a 27" 1080p IPS for almost the same price as it's 24" variant with the same specs. Should I go grab it?? Is the text pixelation (main worry) still noticeable if you sit a bit further away 70-90cms?

Here is an idea you may fine useful, especially when comparing monitors, and that is to show the 1080P Monitor size inside the 1440P monitor. How you do this, well, I don't know but I am sure Google could tell you... Basically you would use something like Note Pad or Word, much like you did to show two pages vs one, but then draw two boxes, 1440 and 1080 respectively... That way we can get some idea of how much bigger 1440P is vs 1080P... I hope you can use this suggestion... Oh, BTW, this idea is not mine as I've seen it used on many Monitor comparison videos, but feel free to use it, I am sure no one would care...

Get a bigger monitor and you need higher resolution to keep the same sharpness. 27 Inch 1080p I need to sit very close to the monitor. 32 Inch 1440p it's sharp but everything is smaller. Set DPI to HIDPI and I have the same image only larger and can go all day without using reading glasses. I love this thing! W10 and Linux Deepin 15 allow not just double DPI but 1, 1.25, 1.50, 1.75, and 2x DPI. I get any older I may need a 40 Inch 4K. CPU/RAM/GPU upgrades may only show when you run certain apps, but a bigger higher resolution monitor is an upgrade you see everytime you hit the power switch.

Don't get a 1440p unless you get a 27"+ monitor. I think the sweet spot would be close to 30" but there is only 28" ones out there and 32". Don't get a 1440p if you are getting a 24" it would be better just getting a 1080p at that size in my opinion. I kind of wish they did make 29" and 30" 1440p monitors it would be perfect and it wouldn't be laggy as much as a 27". 32" and 34" would be too big and you would see the pixels blown up more but it would be running smoother. So depends on what you want better picture with more lag go for smaller screen or blown up and less lag go for bigger screen.
@paulpjr3224
@paulpjr3224 7 жыл бұрын
Andrea Mangano I think the sweet spot for 1080p is anything under 24" for gaming and for 1440p would be anything over 27". For a PC a monitor is suppose to be within 4 feet from you for it's in your personal space. 4K shouldn't even be for a PC but if you were to use one it better be over 32" better even if it was near 35" and you wouldn't be sitting that close to it so it would have to be like 6 feet away or more to play and to me that is how consoles should be played not a PC. I got a nice PC and right now I have it hooked up to my 40" 1080p TV which looks good for what it is but I sit so far from it and it doesn't look right when playing a game on it from 6 feet away. Things are blown up on sceen and pixels are too. This is why I want to get a monitor cause it's so annoying to search the web and stuff looking at a 40" screen far away. Like a PC is personal computer so personal you want something in your space to play a game or do things. I will try to get a 28 or 30" 1440p with G sync 165hz. I was hoping to find one under $500 but they look to be just over that.

+Chris McGuire for a pc user, it's obvious that 100fps brings more visual confort than 60fps. for a ps4/xbox user, there is no difference between 30fps and 60fps. this proves that people useing pc are, most of the time, more smarter than "casual" consoles users, cause even ps4/xbox journalists doesn't understand this debate.

+Goku AKA Kakarot Yes and 144op at over 100Hz doesn't have to be expensive. There are monitors such as the Korean Crossovers that can be overclocked, and which cost about half of the equivalent Asus, LG or other brand name monitor. You also don't need a really expensive GPU to run 1440p for gaming. A decent R9 390 costs just under $300 for example and will run 1440p and to some extent 4K quite comfortably.

1920x1200p is different to 1920x1080p, yes the first one can show a 1080p 'image' or video, however the 1200p is a resolution at 16:10 ratio, which also means the 1200p has a 11% higher pixel amount. Can make the difference in FPS when looking at gaming requirements and trying to hit that 60fps target.

After 7 days of testing i have returned a new 27" AOC 1440p IPS monitor. i'm not a gamer. The icons and text of a 27 inch 1440p monitor are practically the same size as on a regular 22" FHD monitor, so the biggest problem is that you are forced to stay pretty close to the monitor. The extra area of the screen is useless in most situations and applications (beacause of tiny text and apps) and the lght emitted is so intense (because of the size) that blinds you constantly, making almost impossible to work on it for a long period of time. The perfect size for a monitor (for normal use) is a 24 inch FullHD display. if you opted for a 1440p screen i reccomend a 32 inch size at least. 4K is worthless at that point, for a monitor. probably in a gaming environment this theory changes. This is my personal opinion.

@@karimyassine5932 Nah as long as it looks good to you that monitor should be more than good enough. Depends on how it is for you. Do you like it? Is it comfortable to sit in front of for hours? Can your PC run games at 144fps? If not then a 60hz probably better but i dont know. Just speculating. 27 Inch is bare minimum for 1440p.

i once tried a 4k for a few days, without zoom or scaling i had to lean withing 1-2 feat of the monitor to see text as clearly as I could while sitting 3 feet from my 1080p monitor. you get a MASSIVE screen space boost, but if you can't really see what you're looking at I dare say what's the point? telling the app or Windows to adjust the text/image accordingly results in a slightly blurry image, forcing me to again ask "what was the point?" if i loose clarity. then i tried a 1440p monitor...it was beautiful. i could still clearly see text, but i had more room to work with on everyday task. i wouldn't say i noticed it in gaming though. when i went back to my 1080p monitor, it felt cramped and unnatural.

@kibecru
@kibecru 8 жыл бұрын
the problem isn't the resolution, but the size of the things in the screen @1080p compared to @1440p. When you increase the resolution you are also increasing the amount of things to be displayed in your screen. you get to see more but it also means that in order for you to see more stuff everything has to be cramped in the screen, which means smaller objects. For certain games this is terrible because it makes aiming a lot harder. In order to compensate you have to get a bigger screen, which of course lead to lower dpi. The thing is, lower dpi isn't as awful (for gaming) as the industry say. You don't need a 1440p resolution in a 27 inches monitor, everything is tiny, you have to sit closer to the screen. A 24 inches screen @1080p has the dpi of around 90. To reach the same dpi @1440p you need a 34(!!!!) inches screen, so if you get a 30-32ish screen @1440p you will still enjoy the higher dpi.

Sadly most 144Hz monitors use a TN panel, which is decent when you play games where the quality of the picture doesnt matter (for example CS:GO)...but when you play The Witcher 3 or doing something semiprofessional with photos or videos, then the quality of a TN panel is just not enough.There are a few IPS 144Hz panels from Asus or Acer, but they are like russian roulett. Probably 3/4 of this panels have massive problems with back light bleeding. I tested a bunch of 1440p 144Hz monitors, but i wasnt happy with the results. So I bought a Samsung S32D850T with 100% sRGB (over 1 Billion Colors), which is pretty awsome compared to most panels with "only" 16 Million Colors.

I myself struggle between buying 27” 1440p and 31.5(32) 1440p monitor… I don’t see well but I’m not wearing glasses, and I’m kinda afraid that it will be uncomfortable for me on 27” 1440p. 31.5(32) 1440p seems like a perfect solution in terms of text size, but this is where hdr + g-sync come in place - it appeared that currently there are no good monitors in 31.5(32) 1440p range that support both: hdr and g-sync. There are some just with freesync solution Can’t decide, should I buy bigger monitor and stay without hdr, or risk my comfort and buy smaller one but with with hdr support..

So... for working go 3.7 times the panel size so you can fit more things in it with the same pixel density as with 1080p? Or... get a 50 dollar used 1080p extra monitor next to your existing 1080p monitor. Cramp four documents side by side on them. Like: 2 x word or pdf, plus two excels. Extra space in one window is meh imo. Two monitors side by side keeps everything at the same level and easy to eyeball back and forth. Of course it gives more spacious feel to your working if screen is big but still image being sharp.
