I once shot a single stage entire car but not metalic. And the thing is with single stage, unless the paint has changed with improvements but I'm not sure this was some years ago, is that the car needed to be polished like every 6 moths because it would start to fade a little. This was interesting to watch and a new learning experience for me! And I can definitely understand the process and explanation of it as you went along. And I think I could do this one with metalic too with confidence. I think. Spraying metalics can be tricky if you're not experienced enough and the results will show quickly! Thanks trigger!👍

In 97', 11th grade, Moms gave me $600 for a blk on blk 79' 2dr Cutlass Supreme! Girlfriend at the time scratched every panel to the metal. Even tried to put 2-3 pack of sugar in the tank. That lil 260 kept running tho. Thats what happened to my free car 😄

Lol sugar in the gas doesn't work unless you also bypass the fuel filter. Might increase carbon buildup marginally but probably not unless you have a lot of sugar up in there
@Erik7prc2 ай бұрын
@funfun5656 fast forward to 22'ish my good friend had a kia optima and she believed her ex husband side piece put sugar her tank. She took it to kia and they confirmed it. They had to rebuild the engine. Shit was never the same after that. I think it was like $7-8k in damages. Ultimately she quit paying for it and they repossessed it
@funfun56562 ай бұрын
@@Erik7prc They might have blamed it on that but many hyundai 4 cyl motors (like in that kia) suffer from premature failure because they used bad rod bearings, finicky injectors and janky timing componentry. I'm not saying the sugar helped but that engine failed because those motors are a 1000km late for an oil change away from failure right from the factory.

Read lots of comments. From what I can understand it’s difficult to get good results from single stage. I just learned yesterday that single stage is base mix with clear. You said it’s a cheap way of doing it. And that it won’t last. You said you would prefer to clear it. I don’t understand what the other option was. Base then clear seperately? How much more would that cost? It did turn out really nice. From what I can remember $200-$300 for cost of paint and material. Love all your comments. Will definitely Subscribe.
@thetriggerman954Ай бұрын
Thanks for the sub, and yes a short way of putting it is that the base and clear are mixed as one. Ultimately you'd like to put the clear coat on top . That's were you get more UV protection. And depending where you are in the world would depend which method is more suitable. Here in Florida the sun is beating 1000° every day so we need as more UV protection. Metallic single stages are one of the most challenging jobs you will ever face.

You really appreciate your car when you buy it yourself. I drive a rusty but trusty 86 4Runner. Turn 24 next month. It’s never let me down. Working on getting it painted but I need to fix the rust. Things halted when I had my son. Had to get a car with airbags.. my 17 rav4 limited got hit two weeks ago. Waiting to get it fixed. I asked if I could watch it get painted since I paint boats but want to move to cars one day.

Can you do a single stage paint job and still put a regular clear coat on top the same day?
@thetriggerman9549 ай бұрын
I have done it in the past even though I think it's against the manufacturer's recommendation. You definitely want to check with your paint supplier / manufacturer and find out. When I did it in the past I put the single stage down let it sit to where it almost feels like it's pretty much dry maybe 45 minutes then put the clear coat over it and I had no issues. I actually wanted to do it on this car I called the local DuPont distributor and they advised me not to.

One of the reasons clear coat came out was for metallics, that's why everything is metallic today. What I'm talking about is paint jobs that last for decades. That's not a clear coat. A good single stage can be buffed for decades & still look good as day 1. Clear coat loads up with micro swirls. Just touching it does damage &Buffing thins it out. Orange peel is part of the UV protection. That's why factor cars have it.
@patricksantana33373 ай бұрын
No way a single stage coating outlasts a clear coat in the same conditions. It's illogical to even think that. Clearcoats became the choice because they last longer and are more durable. They protect the pigment in the coating from UV and other damage. If you have a show car that is not exposed to the elements, then you may have a point. Also, try to fix a run or sag in a single stage metallic. Not possible without a respray.
@jeremyr71473 ай бұрын
@@patricksantana3337 it is an absolute fact... it can always be buffed back to showroom finish.. a clear coat will fail decades before hand... And no that's not why clearcoats were invented. No hard feelings most people dont know the facts about it.

@thetriggerman9546 ай бұрын
Jet black sould be the easiest job for you. Good choice for a first timer. Just write down your game plan of attack from all of the research you've done/ videos you've watched. Then stick to that. from your prep work to your last step whether that's stopping after clear coat coat or cut and buffing. Just have your plan of attack on paper. Don't just freestyle it in your head. This way you're actually sticking to The results of your research. That's the best advice I can give you . And don't sway away from it.

@thetriggerman9549 ай бұрын
@@joshdane5657 🤣🤣 if the paint looks good enough you don't have to try to steal her. The paint does the talking 😉 but if it's your personal car I'd go ahead and base clear. To save money get a cheaper base and a decent clear. Sometimes paint stores have paint in the back that they mixed and stuff sell call a few and ask if they have blue, they sell it cheap, use that as a ground coat so then you'll buy less of your actual color. Few ways to save money and still look good in the end.

I was like cool first try and I’m doing a corse metallic.. I got 1 run on the front of the box they had in it. They wanted inside the folder box painted as well so one 1 I hit the top edge of that thing and got a run off it. I was like maybe I can sand it and buff it. Nope. Looked all fucked up so I masked it up to just spray the box again. Was kinda cool. I did my drop coat like normal base clear. I saw it killing the shine so I wetted it again and did it like you did on that car. Worked out. My boss was happy.
