Inexplicably sometimes on 11m my moxon makes it through a pile up to work a rare activation despite being only 20ft above ground,if you're limited for space it's a good upgrade from a vertical.

Thanks for uploading this because i was hoping to build one myself, also on 10m due to lack of space for anything bigger. I have an EFHW, just finished building a 1/4 wave ground-mounted vertical on 40 & 15m and seeing a good improvement in dx stations on RX & TX over the EFHW - inter-G about the same. I noticed the power output to the end-fed was down a bit on the Moxon during the signal reports. You have another sub from me. 73 MM0SDK

Thank you for the kind words , I've tried ground mounted verticals at home but not had great success compared to mounting the efhw base above the house, to many obstacles when ground mounted I think. Take care best 73 Ben

Love a bit of Moxon. Ive made one on 70cms and had some good results. I might star using it again If I ever get out portable again!

Think I'll make one for either 4m 2m or 70cm .. I've done no activating this year so we're in the same boat, just building a 10m moxon to use portable .. 👍🏻

The moxon is miles easier to build than the HeX , also helped having the base plate and spreaders from the HeX build . I'm in the process of knocking up a portable moxon. So wish I could put the HeX up they always get good reports. 👍🏻

Good video I’m surprised the difference wasn’t greater. I run a efhw 80 to 10 with no compensation coil I also run a pair of ampro 10 whips as a rotary dipole which literally blow the efhw out of the water at equal heights hence why I’m surprised the difference isn’t more , would be interesting to see the difference at equal heights also I presume the moxon was facing the direction you were receiving , 73

100% agree, this is why it took so long to compare as I expected the moxon to be way better on rx. The efhw hears everything the moxon does but 1 or 2 S points down at times . But on tx it's always around 2 S points up. I've had very good results with the efhw and sounds like I have the same as you ,80 to 10 with no comp coil for 10m. May be I've made a good efhw and a poor moxon haha , I find it all interesting just the same .. need to compare it to a vertical really . I've got an antron99.. Oh and yes I had the moxon pointing the right way... take care.. Ben

@@benm1mlm846 I've got the one from MFJ Ordered. Seen a good review about it from cbradiomagazine, sounds like really good for local 11 meter traffic if vertical/diagonal-ish.

Moxon is a great antenna Ben and does have good gain,have you tried a f/b experiment to see how the rejection is?
@benm1mlm846
@benm1mlm846 Жыл бұрын
Although not in this video I have played about with the front to back and its surprising how good the rejection is off the back for such a simple antenna. Lots more to play about with yet which keeps me keen in this hobby.. 👍🏻

Just one question what wire are you using for the moxon ?
@benm1mlm846

I'm using an old power lead to a vacuum cleaner, not that it makes any difference but one side is blue the other brown . I always save old power leads / wire for this very reason .. many thanks 😊

isnt this test also comparing a vertical polarised to horizontal polarised antenna.
@benm1mlm846
@benm1mlm846 Жыл бұрын
Good question. Not entirely, the efhw is in a "n" shape, it starts off around 4m vertical then across the garden horizontal then down another pole vertical. When I get round to it I'll compare the moxon to the a99 for a fairer test . If you have a look at my other video working the NY 10m repeater (which I imagine is vertical) the moxon out preforms the efhw , when dx'ing I've found polarisation can sometimes make little difference. For me it's all about trying difference things and experimenting. This is just my opinion of course 😛, take care Ben 🙂

So many antenna choices and it's the main item that gets the Rf wave outwards. If only we could see Rf with our own eyes and colours represents the freq and intensity
