VERY IMPORTANT, read this before you watch! I get the "limp wrist" comment nearly daily in one video or another with this pistol, but from people who haven't a clue what they are talking about, so I urge you not to jump to conclusions. Most of the issue with malfunctions is the feed ramp, the Lone Wolf AlphaWolf CONVERSION barrel I use has a very thin feed ramp, not wide and loose chamber like a stock Glock feed ramp/chamber. Also, in this video I was not using a 10mm extractor in the conversion, so that didn't help. If you still do not believe me, I did a study of all of the hollow point ammo tests I did with this Glock 41 pistol in both the stock and the conversion setup. Why this is important is because I tested SEVERAL .45 ACP+P rounds that were well over the typical energy level of 10mm, as well as at or above typical 10mm bullet weight, and I never once had a jam in those rounds. Here is the study of just the Glock 41 portion: Glock 41 (.45 ACP) Shots Fired: 93 Malfunctions: 1 Malfunction Rate: 1.1% Glock 41 (10mm Conversion) Shots Fired: 102 Malfunctions: 23 Malfunction Rate: 22.5%

Thank you. Same with yours. It's awesome to see different mediums. I think ultimately what is most valid is to take the rounds that have a proven track record like the 125 gr .357 Mag SJHP at 1,450 FPS, see what that does in any repeatable medium, and then compare everything else to that. One could use nothing but wet phone books and you would learn from it. So it's fun to just compare everything based on something else. Almost just thought of a video series while typing now lol. Find a large supply of Federal, Winchester or Remington 125 gr SJHP and do a test where whatever is tested is compared to that. That would be cool to see, as that round is still the standard.

Ive actually emailed them before and they told me they use a 6" for all 357 tests. So their listed velocities are based on that, not a 4". I wish they would test in a 4" though.
@GunSam4 жыл бұрын
Yes, Underwood has also said 6" to me. But what really bugs me is that Underwood copies Buffalo Bore specs, and Buffalo Bore .357 Mag gave me 1,388 FPS or something like that. Same "1,400 FPS" on the box. But again, the numbers I see when researching 6" .357 Mag velocities are typically like 50 FPS above 4", so even in a 6" i'd probably have gotten 1,250 FPS, a far cry from 1,400 FPS. As Paul Harrell might say, Underwood is "optimistic" with their ratings.

Hey. Got some info I would like to share on the 41 with the route I took with mine. Probably too much to share on here. Mine has always been a reliable tack driver. Hit 3 inches high, so I went with a slightly taller fiber optic sight. One the conversion end of it, and I run 10mm and 45 super, I got a gen 3 wide stainless extended alpha wolf slide. Got an uncaptive wolff guide rod and a 20, 22, and 24 lb spring. With my hand loads I have to run at least a 22 lb spring with the 10mm. But the 24 is pretty sweet with the heat I'm delivering with hand loads in 10 mm and 45 super. Both my barrels are storm lake 6in. No threads, no ports. They are for a 21. Wide slide. Believe it or not in running a factory 45 extractor and have had great luck with it. The barrel you have has the thinner contour for the narrow slide. Not sure if there is possibly a timing issue with its weight or you could maybe get a gen 4 to gen 3 conversion plug to get an uncaptive spring setup like I mentioned to tune the slide to different loads.
@GunSam4 жыл бұрын
I have noticed that some ammo ran fine with the .45 extractor and some not. The SAAMI spec for rim thickness on .45 Auto is .049" and for 10mm .055". I decided to measure the rims of the ammo I tested in 10mm running the .45 extractor and they were all basically thin for spec, 10mm rims at .049" and .050". I did try to file the little nub on the .45 extractor but never was able to, but the 10mm extractor has cleared up some of the issues. For me it's a mess as sometimes the jams were the extractor sometimes not, other times the magazine other times not and sometimes the chamber and other times not. What I can say is that now currently, it runs relatively okay with low-mid range power ammo that has rounded HP noses. My spring in a NDZ 22 lb.

Also under the hood is polished in my factory barrel but not the conversion. 12:00 There is an interesting phenomenon that occurs in .357 ballistics for some rounds. The bullet velocities will increase in relation to barrel length until you hit the 6 in barrel ... a lot of .357 will go slower out of a 6 inch barrel than a 5 inch barrel or a 7 in barrel. In other words you could get 1000 ft/s at 5 inches, 900 ft/s at 6 inches , then 1100 ft/s at 7 inches. The velocities on a graph actually DIP at 6 inches.

First, let me thank you for all your testing and your testing methods. What you do tells a story that ballistic gel does not tell. Both are analogs for what really happens when a bullet hits meat & bone. I like yours better but that is certainly a matter of opinion. I ran into similar problems to your 10mm conversion with my 10mm G29. Like you it is when shooting the nuclear stuff that delivers the highest slide velocity. You have a fairly light 45 acp slide so, all things being equal, your slide velocity is greater than my G20. According to Glock your gun is 4 oz lighter than my G20. Most of that is in the slide. You put in a 22# recoil spring just as I did in the G29. But it did not solve all the problems. Ask yourself this.... if you hold the gun super tight when shooting it, does the slide velocity become greater or less? IME the slide just goes faster since there is more resistance to holding the gun still. I had fewer of those nose up jams when shooting the G29 one handed. The solution for me was to get a few Wolff +10% mag springs for the G29. The problem went away instantly. The problem was the OEM mag spring could not lift the cartridge up to the feed lips fast enough to deal with the higher slide velocity. I do not know all that may be wrong with your G41 but suspect much of the problem with the nuclear loads is the same problem I had with the light slide on my G29.

It's like "hey lets make a 10mm that's for bear defense for a guy to use after he just ran and fell down a hill running from a bear, and make it so when he uses his weak arm which will probably happen at some point, make it jam every shot". LOL

@@GunSam Mention Rock Island 10mm in a few videos, maybe they'll send you one to play with. I know it doesn't have the fit and finish of some more expensive ones, but I have 700-800 rounds thru mine with 0 malfunctions.

@@GunSam But surely you know your pistol is an anomaly in the Glock world. I’ve had my G40 for 5+ years and have never had a failure.
@Predalien1954 жыл бұрын
@@garysarratt1 His is a conversion from a G21 if I recall correctly. Conversions like that can be iffy at times, namely because the magazines and/or exctractors. I had a G20SF for 3 1/2 years and with a 24lb recoil spring, I never had a failure of any sorts.

Good video, I've never owned a 10mm but they do seem impressive. Probably equal to a hot 357!
@GunSam4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. That's my impression too. The hottest round I tested in this pistol in 10mm was 792 ft lbs energy, and for .357 the hottest in this revolver was 794 ft lbs energy, and both of those numbers are like the max, so it's safe to say they are equal in power. Both have loads that can either be used for self defense or hunting, but in general i'd say the 10mm is a little more suitable for hunting as it's bullet weights typically start at 180 gr, and the .357 Mag is a little more suitable for self defense with the bullets typically starting at 125 gr. But again, you could go uncommon weight for caliber and swap up it's use.

@@GunSam I agree!

@@GunSam Sam all things being equal say 180 gr for both. 357 vs 10mm wouldn't they be the same as far as a big game cartridge?

I love your channel, but I consistently watch you mess around with conversions of one Glock to another caliber, why not just get a Glock 20? Why not just get any Glock that is designed from the factory for the caliber you're trying to shoot?

I don't trust Underwood. Their velocities never seem true. Their heavy 38+p round seems like a good one, but i will take Buffalo Bore before Underwood. If i were you, i would abandon the conversion and het a dedicated 10mm gun- Maybe an XDM 5.25" (or a GP100!). You wr ill probably be better off. As it is, 10 mm conversion is only good for anmo tests- you can't trust it in the field or for hone defense. That is too bad, too, since you have invested the money

I guess for me the thing is, I do not need a 10mm or want one. I just got the conversion setup to test ammo.

If I did something like that, I would get a S&W because across the board S&W tends to shoot faster than Ruger revolvers.

Exactly! That is my plan- get the GP100 in 10mm.

Ok great video as always. Biggest discrepancy is weight and size of projectiles. 357 diameter can vary cast to jacketed but usually 0.357 to 0.359 and 10mm usually 0.400 in all load data I have on the round. 40 grain difference in projectile weight and lets say 0.040 in diameter variation. Now a closer comparison in my eyes. If you want a od with acceptable variances lets get to a closer comparison 41mag. Now we have identical projectile weights. Now we have a 0.410 diameter in a 41mag now in the closest caliber comparison the 10mm shows no comparison with the 41 mag. Now for the auto guys take the Desert Eagle 50ae and a Ruger Alaskan in 480 almost identical ballistics. See which one you can put in your pocket ? Now my 500 is pretty awesome. But back to defense weapons I like dancing beer cans as much as any kind of shooting I ever done.
