This was my 1st ever game at Anfield. Still remember the ovation we gave the Lodz players at the end. Their captain afterwards said they were moved by it.

I was on the Kop with my dad that night and everybody was saturated from torrential rain. So much so that in a packed crowd, steam came off the Kop that night and the hissing was deafening. Despite losing the tie, this match goes down as one of my greatest memories. The spontaneous applause that erupted from the Liverpool fans - recognised by the Polish players - marked an extremely emotional moment of humility. The result became totally irrelevant and the real winner here was humanity. A very proud night to be a Liverpool fan

@distantvoices you are right to mention the Brighton game. I remember it was a chorus of boos and applause. Without making excuses, I believe the negative element came from the sheer disappointment of crashing out of the fa cup, when we were desperate to win it for Bob Paisley in his final year.

and I was sitting in Poland in front of TV-set filling that something historical happened for polish football. Those years everything that took place in the west was for us like on different, better planet. Reaction from Liverpool's fans after the game still is my biggest memory from this game. Respect :-) The week after - a photo of Włodzimierz Smolarek wearing an english police cap was on a front page of the only football weekly magazine in the country

yes mate that is how it used to be , I was on the Kop clapping Lodz myself, I was one of them doing it, I had forgotten how sporting and fair we were, different fans now, they are still sporting , but not as much as this I don't think, would love to see this lot of Liverpool fans prove me wrong .. brilliant to see though isn't it how fair they were , they were special mate a breed apart.

Nie jestem z Łodzi, ale jako nastolatek przeżywałem niesamowicie mecze Widzewa z MC, MU, Juve a potem z Liverpoolem. Zresztą wtedy mecze Widzewa oglądało się jak mecze reprezentacji, chyba cała Polska im kibicowała. A fani Liverpoolu zachowali się z klasą.

What we did vs Liverpool in 1983 can only be compared to kicking Real or Barcelona out of the Champions League quarters today... OK, we were not so much of a nobody back then, we had beaten MU, MC or Juventus before then, but LFC was definitely the best European club those days. This was the greatest achievement of the Polish club football ever.

That's why I wrote about the Champions League, because now it is this league that enjoys the greatest prestige. I know the sound is bad but this game was a famous European night but goes largely unnoticed bcos Liverpool were knocked out but I can assure you the atmosphere was unbelievable, we made bad mistakes in both ties and basically knocked ourselves out, widzew lodz were not very good at all !

nie jestem jakos bardzo za Widzewem, ale jednak to na pojedynki z takimi wielkimi firmami się ekscytuję zawsze, Derby Łodzi to cos co sledzę odkąd interesuje się piłką...wracajcie, Łeczne i te inne do 1-2 ligi, dawać tu Widzew, ŁKS, czy slaskie kluby, bo niedługo będzie 16 piknik aren i nic więcej...ponad podziałami, Teraz Polonia B. może upasc...no niestety, jedyna szansa to jesli z łodzkimi ekipami będzie tak jak w Krakowie...jeden biznemen bierze jeden klub, drugi przeciwny...Cupiał i Filipiak równo tym zbudowali co zbudowali choć temu 1. nie wyszło to pod koniec...ale tak czy siak, nawet takie cos jest potrzebne, inaczej będzie się kopać po czole w II czy 3 lidze
