I go to school because I prefer it to home but I still find myself hating it and wishing it was all just gone I think the hardest thing is trying to keep your parents happy when they don’t even know what’s going on and when you feel they don’t understand I don’t fit in anywhere but if I’m really lucky then sometimes I am happy at school surrounded by people who have actually told me how useless I am

I'm having exams for University and these days my suicidal thoughts are over the top. You have no idea how much this video helps me. It will save me so amount of anxiety and regret. Does anyone ever feel very depressed on a Sunday before school after enjoying the weekend? Knowing that all the fun is over as soon as Monday rolls around. It's like the weekend was a nice break but when it's over you feel like dying. So you're counting the days till you get a holiday off school. 😢

I have deppresion, autisim, and anxiety. I just spent 2/3 hours writing 4 pages of notes and homework. I cried multiple times and my mom made me take a break. I had suicidal thoughts while doing the homework. I'm a 7th grader. Edit: I'm finished!!! Finally!!!

Even though nobody is going to read this I just want to say, I've been severely struggling with my depression lately and have a overall negative home environment. I've recently moved in with my grandma with my mom because her boyfriend has alcohol and substance abuse issues along with putting my mom down and making her depressed and really not being a person I can talk to and to be honest the only person I could ever talk to is my mom and with that not being a option I basically only have the internet to talk to which is honestly sad as hell I know. But really I've been failing school in general and have been trying my best but whenever I talk to my mom about school and my depression she just says "it's all my fault" and "I'm not spending enough time on the computer"(I do online school btw) or "I'm just making up excuses" but really it's always been my depression and this video seems like it will really help me with my school work and everything so hopefully it works out for me and anyone else dealing with anything. 👍

Here are some tips that I do myself to help me get through the day in school. (Maybe this can help others too) *for HS* - *listen to music when doing the work* (happy/calm music, not sad! Trust me!) - *do the work as soon as it’s assigned* (it’s never too early to start it I promise, times flies) - *don’t worry too much about being “perfect”* you’re not dumb, you’re not too quiet, you’re not mean and you’re not a bad person. -*compliment others!* I know it can be hard with social anxiety, but sometimes don’t u ever see that one persons style and u get the urge to speak to them? (I get happy when I see others happy, so complimenting others can be a great thing for both people) - *walk through the halls* (when you get the chance, ask to go to the bathroom and just walk around the halls with your earbuds on, it’s a great feeling. It’s like freedom) -*drinks lots of water and eat fruits!* Fresh foods and drinks give you more energy! -*if you find yourself having an attack/episode of some sort just step out the class,* (speak to your teacher about it later) go to the restroom drink water and call someone you trust. I know school counselors aren’t the best so you don’t always need to go to them. -*surround yourself with people that make you feel happy* (I know it may feel like you hate everyone there, and that you don’t fit in but promise you there is someone out there. I try my very best to get out of my comfort zone, and loosen up with people, even though I hate my school, I’ve met some good people from doing so.) -*ignore intrusive/negative thoughts* (overthinking is a big struggle of mine I’m not going to lie and it’s hard. I often myself thinking about EVERYTHING, and it gets me lost in school.) -*write, sing lyrics in my mind, draw* (these things keep me from overthinking everything i do. It’s a good coping mechanism. I also write lyrics to my favorite songs on my papers, it’s a big time waster when I’m in the place I hate the most) -*the answers for the work are found online now a days, use Socratic, quizlet etc* (trust me passing is more important than learning if I’m going to be honest. If you do want to learn, I suggest you write it down in a journal whenever you have the motivation to and you’ll be okay. Also look up KZbin videos about the topic, I promise you’ll learn faster than the crappy lessons from your teacher) Just now that you will NOT feel this way forever, someday that spark in you will come back. Life isn’t meant to be easy, and that’s just how life is. I still have hope in myself and I hope to never loose that hope ever again. if I’m going to be honest these tips are more realistic and helpful than the ones from the video lol, also I wish you good luck in school! - a depressed sophomore in hs with A’s and B’s

God won’t just help u, God can save u. No teacher or genius could ever do that. It’s been a rough patch for me, I’ve struggled with negative thoughts which isn’t really depression but I get it really bad all I can do is cry on the floor sometimes. But I gave my heart to the blood, and something happened inside of me that made me feel so much real. Without God, I feel fake and like I just have the the same worth as dust but that’s not true. I’m part of this story that God created, the words he wrote in His word. I’m part of a masterpiece. And it helps to zoom out and think long term that there is eternal life out there in heaven where there’s no sorrow, no more tears. There is an escape and that’s it. All it takes is a trade rather than working for millions of dollars to but you happiness from what will only cease. Trade your pride for joy. It’s worth it

Since all of the coronavirus is going on, I lost all motivation because all of the things that I was looking forward to got canceled. I formed a major boulder that makes doing work so much harder. Notes from the video :) 1.utilizing a planner 2.study and do homework on time 3.space it out ⁃divide work into small chunks 4.don’t pull all nighters ⁃organize schedule 5.take breaks (or else you can burn out) ex. Take 30 minute intervals while having 5 minutes breaks 6. binders, notebooks, divers 7.stay away from negative people 8.consume brain food ⁃stay away from sugars ⁃stay hydrated ⁃create a study group 9. Have a study group or study buddy (avoid lazy people and be around ambitious people) 10.highlight 11.take care of yourself

vangothengirl i agree soo much! I use to do rly bad at school and my teachers would always say that i can be much better but I need to focus and pay more attention. When i got my kitty my grades skyrocketed to the point where now im a honored student. When im sad i just pass some time with my kitty and everything gets so much better. Mental health is sooo overlooked its destroying our society.

I have depression No one knows... None of my friends know... None of my family members know... None of my teachers know... When I was 11 I tried to commit suicide... It was unsuccessful... It’s been over 2 years... No one still knows... I’m self diagnosed but it’s obvious... I put on a fake smile everywhere I go... I’m not bullied... But Im self conscious... My sister judged me and called me fat... Multiple times... But I’m just happy I’m still alive... I just want the pain and misery to end.

I have the same problems (other than the attempted suicide) but it helps to remember that no matter what awful things you are going through right now, they will help give you a brighter future and improve your life. It may not happen for a few weeks, months, or even years, but it will happen. Just keep going and you'll come out stronger than before:)

These are just basic tips. I’m talking about what to do when you’re so depressed you’re a month behind on assignment and don’t have the energy to do any of these tips for coming up work. None of these seem very relevant to depression and more like regular student hassles

This is amazing. I’m actually trying to do all of those things because my finals at uni are coming and I’m also dealing with a huge depression but doing it all is very helpful. Having a study buddy with whom I’m also doing study breaks so it’s very positive because I’m spending time with a friend at the same moment is the most helpful.

Do things that don't require lots of memorization :) The real world is not about memorization! It's about finding systems/strategies to manage aspects of your life. So perhaps, a journal or evernote :)

it helps me to remember that one missed assignment won’t ruin everything, and that on those really bad nights, staying up and studying will only hurt you. instead go to sleep & regain your strength and deal with it when you’re mentally capable, even if it’s more rushed.

One thing I would like to add. DON'T BE SHY ABOUT SEEING YOUR GUIDANCE COUNSELOR. Every school has them, and they will help you in ways you can't possibly imagine! I found myself on academic suspension in 2013 because I completely lost motivation. I pushed myself too hard and ended up having a complete mental shutdown. Every appeal I made didn't approve because of my transcript, so I spent the past 4 years doing nothing but working and community service. But this last fall, having enough of living life in the sidelines, I saw a guidance counselor, and she advised me to take college success course the college has. That course was a literal lifesaver for me! I learned to stay organized, combat negative thoughts, and be able to take breaks without a million voices in my head yelling at me for not studying! I got off the suspension that semester, and now I'm back in school and a stronger student than ever!

I was about to fall into the same scenario earlier this year, saw the team at my university (Equity, Diversity and Disability Service) and managed to get some adjustments to suit my learning which has alleviated so much stress.

I always had been a straight A student without any effort and I love learning in general so it is much harder to accept that i just can't do my best these days... I’m starting my sophomore year in abt a week. I was telling my mom how I have my math/geometry teacher as my seminar teacher and how that’s going to be annoying bc I’m going to be failing the class. And she got mad at me. Like I’m sorry woman but that’s just the facts. Look at the graph I’ve been failing math for 6 consecutive years. One year right after the other. (And science too) And my dad (and everyone else in my life) tells me I don’t try hard enough or that I set my self up for failure. I did try. I have tried. It’s like it’s hard to try when every day, every year a little bit of hope that I have leaves.

Also a good point: while having depression can make learning hard, the same can happen because of antidepressants. So have a lighter study load when you first start them or if you're changing medications, until you're able to focus more effectively. Recovery for people with recurring depression is a lifelong thing, so be sure to take it easy on yourself while studying. Finishing a 3 year degree in 6 years is still an accomplishment. Everyone needs to work at their own pace, and don't be hard on yourself if your pace is slower than the "standard"

Amy Canham You need to let them know that they are affecting you then. If they already know, then perhaps limit your involvement with these people. It is all dependent on the context ie family or friends, and the best person to give you guidance would be a counsellor

I have only 1 1/2 years left of high school but I'm really struggling with motivation and it feels like I'm doing school for nothing because I have no aspiring dreams or wishes for the future. School always reminds me of this, and that makes me even more depressed, and when I can't handle school it worsens. I have no real friends at school. I'm alone, but at the same time, I also don't want friends (if you know what I mean). I know it's stupid and all in my head. I wish I could be happy for the sake of my family.

Does anyone just hate the first two winter months? It gets dark very quick so when you get home from school it feels like hours of your day is just gone. Then you've got many assignments to get done but you just don't want to do them so you procrastinate and before you know it there's no time to do anything else.

My experience with school / my schedule: 5:45 am: wake up to an alarm, feeling very tired and restless, not wanting to go to school and feeling insecure and unsafe about going to school 6:20 am: finish getting ready, usually try to play with a bouncy ball or some small stress ball, only to get yelled at by my annoying sister who I hate and is older than me, and telling me to stop playing with that 7:30 am: get picked up by my sister’s friend’s mom in her car to drive to school, while I feel very anxious and scared about going, also hiding the fact that I’m crying on the way to school 7:40 am: arrive at school, go into the gym and sit down for morning assembly and start reading, only to have the teachers yell at everyone in there to stop talking, and I start crying again and have a mental breakdown while hiding it to the class 8:00 am: finally getting through all the yelling, we go into our classroom and start learning, only to have to stop every 5 minutes so the teacher can yell at everybody because I’m quiet and everybody else in the class in talking 9:35 am: **work in progress** That’s what I have so far, I think I have depression, I’m a very quiet kid and followsthe rules

These tips definitely help. Looking back I was most happy doing these and when I didn't I would start to loose it. Oh and for those who don't know sleep is key pulling allnighters can really mess you up. A lack of sleep can really induce suicidal thoughts trust me. My bigest problem is I often try to run from life when it feels overbearing giving my self only a fue hours of sleep making it worse and worse creating a down hill cycle of terrible thoughts. Still to this day I have trouble with coming to terms about it. It's definitely a difficult to deal with but we all have our difficulties and all we can do is learn to cope with them and I know we all can. If you don't feel like you can try some of these tips and try to get some extra moral support if possible. Please just don't give up, it's worth at least one more try.

I think this video helps regardless of whether or not you're in school. This video helped me balance my workload more in both work and university. I still don't do the 30 minute interval thing, but I do with a larger scale. 1 hour working, 1 hour studying, 15 minute break, etc.

1. I can't even remember basic things sometimes, so I would forget to use a planner. 2. I can't get through an assignment without going deaf from thoughts telling me how much of a failure i am and i can't tell you how many times I've cried in class. 3. ... 4. Staying up at night helps me and I feel calmer, but im forced to have a 'normal' schedule. 5. i can't take breaks because my thoughts never leave. My brain is always running. 6. I don't have anything to say. 7. I live with negative people. My mom and her boyfriend are negative. My sister is negative. 8. I usually am too tired to make food, so I keep chips in my room. I can't leave my bed sometimes. 9. Everyone hates me in my school, so i cant do that. I would feel more like a failure around smarter people. 10. I don't have anything to say. 11. I don't have enough energy to take care of myself. I don't have enough motivation to care about my well being.

I have severe depression and my teacher is amazing he doesn't push me to do work even though I'm the 'best' kid in class I always get a's and my work always gets used as an example all the kids say they are jealous of my work but they don't know how I'm struggling so much and how life is a constant battle that I lose everyday my teacher is amazing and I appreciate the fact that he always cares about me

Shit my man, don’t know how this video was timed for me so well. Just got done with my midterms, and realized how overwhelming school has been. I can’t for the life of me focus on school with everything on my mind, I can hardly do any task without dwelling on everything that’s eating away at me. My grades have tanked, not completely at F’s but, they’re getting there at this rate, and fast. What makes it worse is that actively failing stresses my anxiety and depression more, I can’t afford to fuck up in school right now, I could never forgive myself. I just can’t imagine how to focus on school when life feels like a chore enough already. It just seems impossible sometimes to be functional, especially with school. If I were to fuck up now, every dream I had for myself will be gone, and it’ll be my fault. Just seeing tips like this makes me happy and a bit more motivated, thank you man.

My doctors also said to do these things and they were rather helpful but they did always work. My stress had become too much for me, and my depredation wouldn't decrease. Finally after a trip to the hospital my doctors told me I should be pulled out of school and get a more physical help put in place. Now I am being home-schooled by a teacher from my old school and I'm going to be given a service animal to help me deal with the other medical problems I have that I will not mention dew to personal reasons. But still those tips were helpful at the time and I still use them even in my home-schooling. In fact my teacher enforces it and can tell when I really need it. It feels so nice to be where I am now.

I was a student with depression about 7 years ago, and even though this video came 7 years late, I'm glad that I was actually doing what most of this tips suggested. One thing that helped me get through it were my very supportive friends. Im glad I was able to meet friends like them. They were unaware of my depression though. I still keep the notes and binder thing until now to organize my stuffs.

I had depression an couple years ago, but now I deal A LOT with anxiety attacks and overwhelming. my tip, for all of you, lil strong and beautiful human beings, is to plan the night before your day (with hours) or, at the very firt hour of it. in that way if you start to feel stressed you'll open your planer and remember "the plan"🌹 you all are amazing and I hope you have a great day🦋
