Anyone has to respect the fact he finished his goal, with 100 black or brown belts kicking and punching on him for 4 hours. I noticed the clock on the wall, when he started it was about 11:40 am and he had already fought 5 people. He finished at 3:40pm. The look in his eyes at the end, he looked half dead! Much respect!!!

How is a draw considered? I believe the rules are different. There is no draw or at least what you mean by draw is enduring the whole ( I believe it is 2 minutes) fight. And losing would be by knock out. Otherwise it is impossible.

For the skeptics I know he cross trains in Muy Thai just as many of the top strikers in the world do. A lot of K-1 Champions and fighters stem from the bare knuckle ranks. I still don't get why we get these comment wars. We're all martial artists and the philosophy of our training speaks directly against doing so. But religion is the same. They all speak of love and unity but bash each other. All of our collective training stems from battlefield arts. We are blessed to challenge ourselves in dojo and competition vs battle field conditions.

This is correct. Kickboxing for example is 1 ring sport adaptation of karate. Some old K1 fighters still wore their Gis in the early years. I think the main confusion people have is between the martial art and the sport.

And the 100th opponent appeared to be none other than big, bad, Kenji Yamaki! Wow! Kenji Yamaki wasn't going full bore, of course, but he laid some licks on Kazumi that the man probably still feels to this day when he wakes up every morning. I am amazed that Kazumi did not simply drop from some of Yamaki's body shots and high (hard) kicks...especially the roundhouse he took to the right side of his face. A tremendous achievement by any standard.

I remember seeing Kazumi fight at the 1995 World Tournament. This fighter never gave up, no matter what was thrown at him. A big Osu to Kazumi and his 100 man kumite.

Kyokushin Karate really is an amazing martial art, really conditions the body, and someone doing the 100-Man Kumite deserves a lot of respect. So much training and such for that. > w > It'll definitely keep anyone in shape for a long time.~

Kyokushin isn't a practical fighting system and is designed almost entirely for competition. A seasoned muay thai fighter would beat a seasoned kyokushin fighter. Not doing full contact and not learning how to defend and attack to the head puts them at a huge disadvantage. I do still have respect for people who put time and dedication into something, but if you're looking to actually learn to fight and defend yourself there are better forms out there.

If it's all about the student and not about the art then there are a lot of bad students studying kyokushin. The fact that these people don't practice striking to the head gives muay thai practitioners a huge advantage. If an art form doesn't develop a certain skill within fighting then yes certain forms are better at least in certain aspects than others.

It's a RULE to not use punches to the head, and if you really insist on knowing why, let me tell you :) : A. Kyokushin karate punches are powerful enough to stop heartbeat and prevent you from breathing *This also depends on how seasoned the player is, take black belts as the prime example here* (Nothing more than a punch does that lol). Proof: I tried those punches... B. Since those punches' power I talked about did that much damage, imagine what one of THOSE punches could do to the head; Death and passing out are two possibilities, but leaving with a fractured head is one thing guaranteed... 3. Punches to the head are practiced dude, they're not used in tournaments or breaking like you would usually see, but during training, punches aiming high are practiced, and second of all, it's not that hard... Since seasoned kyokushin fighters have great accuracy to hitting stomach and ribs; hitting to the head is just a matter of angle... which is something a white belt can do. The one thing that really makes your arguement invalid is because based on what you're saying there I dont think you've tried Kyokushin... Im playing kyokushin and I did play muay thai... I agree. Partially. A martial artist should not be focused on winning fights for glory, fame, or money. But, competition does have its place. Competition can be good training, certainly, the mindset and atmosphere is very different than that of say, sparring in class. It can also be a lot of fun to test your skills against others. As long as the focus is not on competition, I don't see an issue with a tournament every once in a while. I'm talking kyokushin here. MMA is another issue.

The point isn't to show that he could "defeat" one hundred opponents. It's a test. The point is to endure. The test strains his will and fighting spirit. As for the level of contact, they may or not be hitting full force. Hard to tell without being there in person, but I guarantee it still hurts. If someone lightly taps you with their fist one hundred times, it will hurt by the end. And they're not lightly tapping each other, that much I know.

Some of the people commenting on this video should be comedians...honestly. 1.the belt of the people Kazumi is fighting doesn't matter. A brown belt can be uchi deschi who may train primarily to be a fighter & a black belt can be a part time student. 2. Until you have been in the ring doing 15 fights for a 1st Dan you wont understand if they are taking it easy or not. From my point of view all of the fights were great. 100 fights is not just something you get up and do. Great job Sensei. Osu.

Last guy was Kenji Yamaki (KK champ & Kazumi's sempai). Kazumi is my favourite fighter alongside Narushima/Midori but I have to say, if you find this impressive watch Akira Masuda's 100-man, by far the most impressive 100-man attempt imho.

This is Kyokushin. They are fighting hard. Kancho Matsui is sitting right there watching them and so are almost 100 practitioners. I understand the skepticism, but anyone who isn't sure should go to a Kyokushin dojo and try sparring - then keep in mind that this one's in Japan for god's sake.

Even my Dojo in Bondi Junction Australia, sparing is part of training in all classes (even children which mine love). And as you get older and go up ranks it is expected. To do your BB trial it is a 15 Person Kumite, non stop and that is something I don’t look forward to (even though it is years away for me) I did a general class that had a lot of BB in it a few weeks back and the sparing was good, enuthosiastic, and no many punches were really that pulled

They are wooden sticks (grip sticks) which the fighters must hold, sosai oyama created this, as it encourages the fighter to punch because they need to create a fist to hold them, if they drop them, by default, they lose the fight.

Many years ago Judo, and Karate was my life.I really don't think a man can fight 100 black belts one after the other.Some of the guys are pulling there punches too help the person to win this challenge.In my day I used to think I was pretty fit but I could never do 100 guys.

He wasn’t. It is a personal challenge. Dan Levels are usually numbered to 10x rank. So black (Shodan) is 10 x / 1st Dan is 20x ect. Also varies school to school

The purpose of the martial artist isn't to "show" or "prove" anything. That is an undesireable trait even. Humility is a goal, however. + They *are* striking rather strongly, in Karate you just don't want to inflict serious injuries on the opponent (unless it is unavoidable). Anyway, going one round is tough with these guys, but 100 kumite is really really tiring. It's tough to focus on technique in the end, yet it is still required in this discipline.

In these 100 man kumites do the 100 men totally try to win or defeat the guy undergoing the ritual? It seems they do not do as many head kicks or try hard to win the fight. Like it is more about making him get some punishment for 100 rounds without knocking him out or knocking him down to win.

Kyokushin don't allow attacks to the head due to past hospitalizations...so they let you try to do kicks to the head but not many can. Also this guy is known for his low kicks
