115. How to Wheel Throw a Tall Vase

In this video I will give you a few tips on how to throw tall vases. This time it won't be super tall vases and not thrown in sections - but normal tall vases, that everyone should be able to make.
The vases I throw is made in stoneware with grog. This helps make it more stable - it is easier to throw tall with this sort of clay.

Thanks for another excellent demonstration. I often find my fingers catching on dry clay when I'm midway through a pull - I didn't think about making sure the surface was evenly wet as you mention, so thanks for that and all your other tips. Cheers

Thanks. If you run into dry spots, stop, slowly release and re-hydrate :-)

My problem with these tall shapes is that at some point, I can't seem to get them any thinner... And if I squeeze harder, I end up deforming them. More practice, I guess?

I know that feeling :-) It can help to let it try a little bit - a few hours or use a heat gun, and then continue pulling
