You are getting closer to not being morons. Dont use the tire when you are jigging up "suspension" parts. Build a part from a hub to install on the spindle, or better just build a spindle replacement set at the right height and alignment settings to tack securely to the table. Then build your arm off of it to the other side of your jig. Since you are bolting it on I would add a third leg rearward for stability as well. If that thing folds up in the dirt you are in big trouble. The front should have a bit of a ski shape to help prevent a big rear hop from turning it into a sand dart too.

You better triangulate those front A arms or you are going to bend them back the first time you put a little pressure on them. The length of the arms is going to act like a lever and add a bunch of pressure on them.

Love the show can't wait to see how this turns out! I do have a suggestion. Triangulate the top of the front axle to keep it from wanting to rip the front wheel off if you hit a pothole on the return road! If you research a dragster tripod front-end they have 2 top bars and 1 bottom
@bashr52
@bashr52 Жыл бұрын
I came here for this comment 🤣. Two single bars are great for vertical strength, but will do nothing to keep the system from folding in on itself with a good hit to the front
@jeroldlafferty54
@jeroldlafferty54 Жыл бұрын
Yep,or a Wishbone to control the spindle. Triangulation on the control arms with adjustablety to set and maintain your alignment.At speed the forces will be toe out big time. You will need spindle kicked back, wheels straight with the rear wheels. Spin front tire on wheel with a needle point awl light score all the way around on both tires measure front and back of tire roll straight. Mark it out on leval floor.Have driver in seat with nose up little on front end like at speed 1/8 toe end it will go thru the lights like a champ.

Looks like a box. You really ought to build a centerline jig where the jig can be made level regardless of what the floor or work tables are doing. Then you can rotate the frame along the center and work on it without ever taking out of the jig.

Guys there is a wheelbarrow load of valuable advice in these comments. When you weld, all of the welders out there chime in to offer guidance, since all here want to see you guys learn along the way. Take the advice about CrMo fab a bit more seriously. Dont freehand the stinger anymore!! The horizontal tubes across the nose should go edge to edge, with the frame rails terminating into them. Watch Ty weld up one of Cleetus's cages. If you're paying attention you will learn how to properly join structural tubes in the best config possible. He is a master. Power tool clean to near white metal the areas to be welded together. Should be obvious by now. CrMo needs to be stress relieved (post weld heat treated) to take advantage of the strength properties. Learn to use a chalk box, or something that gives you a datum point or a centerline. There is no excuse for a lop sided chassis. Cant wait to see it rip!

Nice. See y'all started a new build. You'll be able to haul two to the drag strip and double your fun. Is that a opal GT I see in the background? One of the coolest Ultra small cars. If so, and you haven't dealt with the transmission yet, seems like I had to access bellhousing bolts through holes in the firewall. Remember doing the clutch but it seems like that was access to the starter as well. Over 40 years ago I guess one forgets.lol Had a friend in the late 70s who was buying them, then stuffing in a 350 in and flipping. he was also doing that to all the Datsun Z cars he can find. 3-4 weeks a car. That included glassing up wide flares, modified Hood, and paint.

Chrome-moly requires a specific weld technique to avoid the welds cracking. Since you have so much HP, be aware of this and don't end up with a potentially dangerous frame.
@Engineering_Improvisation
@Engineering_Improvisation Жыл бұрын
One thing to note when welding chrome moly is that you need to anneal your welds. When you finish welding a joint, use a torch to get it red hot and let it slowly cool on its own (no fluids or fans).
@frankensteincreations4740
@frankensteincreations4740 Жыл бұрын
I know you guys are only using chromoly for the weight savings so it doesn’t matter… Of course you already know, the tensile strength of the welding wire is weaker than the chromoly tubing is… Which is why chromoly is always tig welded. Gives the weld a higher tensile strength to match the strength of the tubing… 👍👍👍👍
