I have a 2016 GMC 2500 Denali with 353k miles on it. I use it for RV transport and so most of it is highway mileage. At 332k miles my cp4 went bad. Took it to a GM dealer and they replaced it with a new cp4 pump, but did not do fuel system or injectors as they told me there was no metal in the system. This happened this past July 2024. Cost out for the work came to $4k. Fast forward to the end of September and the truck hit 353k miles and the cp4 pump went bad again. Just a little over 20k miles on the new pump. This time the pump grenaded. Metal all through the lines, injectors, and fuel system. Of course the work that was just done would be under warranty…..you would think. Took truck to the same GM dealer that did the work back in July and was told that the cp4 pump went bad again. The only problem…..they would not warranty anything beyond the pump. I was told it would cost $7k to do this repair. The dealer would not even submit paperwork for the warranty because of the failure and I was told that it was not covered. The truck did not stay there and I ended up having it towed to another local diesel shop and they are doing a Cp3 conversion along with the disaster kit, also having it tuned and deleted, full 5 inch exhaust, also adding down pipe and lb7 up pipe and a lift pump. Cost for this comes to $11k, but this time being done correctly. Unfortunately I am from Indiana and not under this lawsuit so everything is out of my pocket. For all those that have an lml Duramax……. Get a cp3 conversion asap. Even if it has low mileage, that cp4 will fail eventually. Save yourself thousands of dollars now rather than spending all your hard earned money later. GM knows they have bad pumps installed on these trucks and don’t want to pay for the problems.

Have a 2016 Chev 2500HD with the effected 6.6 that I bought new in AZ. That being said my truck doesn't qualify. But I was pro active I installed a lift pump and used additives every fill up. When the truck was finally out of the extended warranty at around 40,000 miles I decided that the fear of total failure was to much as I use it to pull our 34ft. 5th wheel. Being a retired aircraft mechanic I decided to do the CP 3 conversion. I bought the Fleece kit and spent 10 days in my garage doing the conversion. I've put close to 3000 miles on it since then and I can say I'm extremely happy that I did the conversion. Shame on GM for sticking it to so many of their loyal customers. Several GM dealers have contacted me to see if I'm ready to upgrade, my usual response is not a chance, GM has lost another customer.

Good info as always, I fill up at truck stops during my road trips but when at home I fill up at Smiths fuel stations, I've never had water in my lift pump filters and with my rewards points I sometimes save $1 off per gallon up to 35 gallons so I save some cash filling up my S&B 62 gallon fuel tank, I also treat every fuel fill up with Hot Shots EDT for my LBZ with the CP3, I also watched a cool video where the owner from S&S Diesel talked about fuel filter changes and he said its better to go to or over the recommended service intervals on fuel filter because the larger voids in the filter media get plugged with contaminants and you in turn get cleaner fuel through the smaller voids in the media, I personally have a Glow Shift fuel pressure gauge that they make for under hood application installed on my fuel feed side from my lift pump, EDGE makes a pressure sensor but its not in my budget yet, my lift pump puts out 8psi on new filters, when it reads 5psi I change my lift pump filters, I average 12K to 15K miles between filter changed and I drain my water separator filter every 5K miles when I do my oil changes, my primary fuel filter is deleted and I rely on just my lift pump filters.

When i go out of town i always get fuel at a truck stop because they constantly have fresh diesel being delivered. Here locally at my neighborhood gas station i get my fuel at the local BP where they have diesel fuel delivered on a weekly basis because dump trucks box trucks and bobtail commercial trucks gets fuel there everyday day....I never go to a mom and pops gas station because that fuel in the tanks may possibly have water in them from moisture being collected

I SPENT $10,200 LAST AUGUST WITH LARAMIE GM on a 16 LML...the link makes it sound like all trucks that had failures will eventually be covered, even if they're not covered by the initial class action settlement...at least by my reading.

all the newer engines with rods out of the blocks, might be an issue also!!!
@EkzdeeLFTАй бұрын
Honestly yeah how did they fuck up a perfect engine so bad the things already go 400,000 miles with no issues before hydraulic lifters. Why did they need to reduce wear points or change the basic design at all.
@aaronkelley8909Ай бұрын
I sold my 2022 Ram/Cummins for this reason.
@RobertHolster1Ай бұрын
@@packingbone1953 Yea the Gen 5s went to a different block and now they see tons of bottom end failures; not just because they are a compacted graphite iron block, but because of the fact they took out material out of the bottom end and other locations so save weight. Now there is a possibility of major bottom end failures as a result of fretting that leads to main bearing failures. They also added hydraulic lifters (eliminated the flap tappet from the Gen 4s) which leads to failures; plus main/rod bearing failures to add to the lifter and head gasket failures. Many engine builders are scrapping Gen 5 blocks and using Gen 4s retrofitted to facilitate Gen 5 applications. Not all engines fail, but I would never own a 6.7 Cummins, just like I would never own an LML unless I had the coin to fix common problems. Just like I would never own a 6.0/6.4 Powerstroke unless I had some extra padding. Results may vary, I get if. But you're right. Cummins and their lifters.

I have a 2014 GMC Sierra 3500 HD SRW that i tuned and deleted 18 months ago and installed a FASS Lift Pump at that time. I do change my fuel filter every oil change and FASS filters every other oil change. I also use Hot Shots Secret oil and fuel additives as directed by them and im at 188,000 miles. I qualify but of course no help in any kind of way for the upgrades that i have done as it is running still. No blow by and i had the metering valve checked and their is no metal in the CP4 . I,m going to run the LML and maintenance it still like i started 18 months ago.Treated fuel and frequent filter changes is key to making the LML last from what ive researched and i buy fuel at a reputable hometown pump station. I,ll give you a update if it doesn,t hold up. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated as im not a mechanic but i enjoy your knowledge , videos and wisdom! Thank you!

A new L5P owner here. So nooooooooooo, I don't qualify. What really stinks is the thousands of people that got screwed and will never see a dime. Some even brought their trucks in for a CP4 failed trucks in for warranty repairs...but nooooooo. Some dealerships were allegedly dumping a bottle of water into the fuel tank to keep GM from fixing the failure and black listing the warranty. That's the lowest despicable thing they could do. They created the problem by not having a factory lift pump to "support" the WORST high pressure fuel pump. GM also didn't do anything to mitigate the other expensive mechanical failures with the LBZ/LMM and LML engines regarding the breaking crankshafts, cracked pistons and blown head gaskets. So perhaps their mindset was selling replacement crap I use Circle K or the Loves truck stops for fuel, and Archoil fuel additive for my 2023 L5P. I treat my truck like folks should treat their LML engines. The big take away is the L5P is a completely different engine than the earlier Duramaxs...but a fuel system failure can get even more expensive with the Denso system. Truck you really put out some good info. I appreciate all you do on your channel.

So, is the same going to happen to Ford and Dodge? Everyone's dogging on gm, but Ford and Dodge have the same pump as well. My job had 2 Fords that needed the pumps replaced at 50000 miles. And since they still run them in the new ones, the one I'm driving now has been having the same issues. Ford should have been the first one they went after. The other two at least changed their pumps to fix the issue.

What all are you diesel owners failed to realize starting in 1993. The government started taking the sulfur out of diesel fuel. The sulfur was the lubricant that lubricated. The pumps had low for fuel, and now they have ultra low sulfur fuel does not have enough sulfur in it to lubricate if you go to Canada, England or Europe, they did the same thing but they started adding additives to lubricate the pump you go to Canada. They don’t have the pump failure problem with the CB fours and these high-pressure pumps back in the 60s, when the diesel fuel was such a low-grade, we ran mystery Marvel in the diesel fuel. We actually bought it by the 55 gallon drum and we had a formula to use how much to put in when we got a bowl delivery we didn’t run it for lubricant ran for a cleaning compound, the diesel fuel was low-grade That the engines would carbon up and that’s why we run mystery Marvel if it was me and I couldn’t find what they’re using in Canada I would run mystery Marvel in my pick up truck to lubricate the pump but also keep the carbon from building up in the EGRand exhaust valves you need to do your homework and look at the failure rate in Canada and Europe. They don’t have that failure rate. Yes the pump is a very bad design, grace and peace.

I got a class action lawsuit mailer card. I’m halfway through your video. When reading the fine print on the card and going to the website to process a claim for this, and your highlight it states that you have to buy from a GMC authorized dealer. What does that mean exactly? I bought my 2015 LML truck in 2019 from a used car lot in California. I have a feeling that if you didn’t buy it brand brand new or used from a GM dealer your SOL your thoughts? I’ll be submitting a claim next week when I get my old credit card statement showing I paid for my CP three pump. my only issue I have is that I did this project when my truck was at the GMC dealer getting a new turbo under warranty. They pulled the cab. I spoke with the tech and made him a deal on the side that if he could throw in my CP3 pump along with a PPE exhaust system and downpipe. But I have no official receipt showing I paid labor. I only have the $2500 receipt for the buying the pump. If you wanna know more about my experience as it progresses, let me know.
