I am 81.5 years old Male. I am eating lamb, chicken 9 times per week I.e., 7 days plus Friday and Sundays at lunch. Recently I under went regular Medical checkups with Nephrologist and Dr. on seeing my Xray he said my kidneys are perfectly well. Upto 50 or 70 years of age I was drinking 3 litres of water. From 70 onwards I have restricted to 1.2 to 1.6 liters. I get up one time at midnight to pass urine. I take a morning walk 6 days in a week for one hour covering 4 kms. I am not diabetic. My friends say that I look like 60 years old. 😁

Don't use if possible. 6 Excessive caffeine is not good limit it to one or two cups 7 low protein. Preferable non animal as it's hard on kidneys. Non soy as it can raise blood pressure. 8 excessive alcohol not good. Only drink the recommend amount 9 stop smoking 10 manage weight 11 Manage diabetes. Keep a1c under 7 12 manage blood pressure.

This is really great advice and your story is INSPIRING. I just want to add the ONE THING that a lot of people tend to overlook and that could make all the difference. CKD is a silent disease. I see a lot of patients waiting YEARS before getting checked for kidney function because they don't see any symptoms. The problem is that CKD doesn't have symptoms until it is TOO LATE... so if you have any risk factor, don't wait! get checked people

I have Type 1 diabetes I'm a vegan because my sister who wasn't a diabetic died from End Stage Renal Kidney Failure. My A1C has never been over 7.5. That is the has only happened 2 times in my life. I am obsessed with keeping mine at 6.5. My sister was on dialysis 3 yrs 3 days a week 5 hours each time. She drank Dr Pepper's everyday her doctor said that's the worst of the sodas to drink. Please everyone take care of yourselves.

@@DADVICETV I loved it too but Diet Dr Pepper until Her Doctor told us that. I haven't drank any soda at all since then. At dialysis they give you a list of what you can and can't have. My poor sister and everyone on it. I felt so bad for them. Only 32 oz of clear liquids a day. No beans not even green beans. And so much other stuff she couldn't eat. We met another guy there that drank Dr Pepper only and the nurse said they got a few every 6 or 8 months. I was off that quick. After you get off sodas and taste one later it taste like syrup. Also something in Diet drinks made me feel like something was in my throat all the time I kept coughing after drinking them.

Eating cabbage is good for your kidneys ! I learn about it on a doctor's video . I had damaged my left kidney with extreme & prolonged dehydration . Which caused a 1 cm kidney stone . Which then caused a kidney infection . Which caused a blood infection . Which almost killed me . I was looking for ways to heal my kidney . So I began adding cabbage to my lunch every work day . When I had my next doctor visit , my doctor was both very pleased and surprised had my test results . They indicated that my kidneys were healing much faster and functioning much better then she had anticipated !

It is no laughing matter. I like how serious he is when talking about number 2 but unfortunately it is too late for me. My kidneys have already failed. I was on hemodialysis for about a year and got a kidney transplant on November 29th, 2017 and I was only 17 to 18 years old. I hope more people talk about this especially in a serious matter like him. So far I found none on the internet except for this youtube video because they just don't mention it and it makes feel very alone and embarrassed for the cause of my kidney failure so thanks to this guy for talking about this especially in a serious matter.

I don't get why these doctors lie like there's no hope like we all are going to just accept it and not do our research. I wasn't told that there was no hope but I also wasn't informed about how nutrition plays a part in kidney function. I did just like you and researched the crap out of what helps kidney function and improved them on my own. Now I'm dealing with a low white blood cell count. I asked the doctor is there anything I can take to improve this and she looked dead in my face and said unfortunately no and added I wish there was. From experience I knew not to accept the first thing they say so I went right away and did se research and found about 50 foods and supplements that improve or raise wbc. Point is you gotta take care of your own self in addition to going to doctor. I really just use doctors as check ups ro get my levels read then go home and fix myself. I take their advice but add my own stuff to it. Thanks for this video. I actually didn't learn anything new but I appreciate that you are informing others.

So glad to hear that! When I was diagnosed my Nephrologist told me I had "Zero" chance of getting better, dialysis was my only option. It felt great to prove her wrong, and to do it so quickly was even better. As long as you can manage the underlying cause of your CKD to prevent further damage, diet and lifestyle changes can greatly slow down, halt, or even reverse the loss of kidney function. Thanks again and good luck!!!

I love visiting my original Nephrologist and reminding her I'm still alive - she said I'd be dead in 45 days without dialysis...1 year ago tomorrow. While diet and lifestyle changes are not the sole answer, for many people it allows them to delay or completely avoid the need for dialysis. And anything easy that can do that is worth trying! Feel free to reach out if your have any questions - our CKD community is full of lots of helpful people. Make sure you download my food list from www.dadvicetv.com/food - it is a great starting place for you and your doctor or dietitian. Good luck - YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Love this advice but you missed a HUGE factor--SUGAR! and mindlessly eating junk food! Donuts, chips, cupcakes--"comfort foods". Im eliminating "added sugar" foods PLUS all junk foods with one cheat per week. One donut, one cookie. I've lost 8 lbs in about 8 weeks and am so proud of myself! I'm looking to lost 15 more lbs which will also bring my BMI below 30. I have had Stage 3 kidney disease for at least 5 years--but not one doc that I saw told me that in plain English! I found out BY ACCIDENT about 2 months ago at a return visit (from LAST JUNE!!!) to the PA I had seen. She mentioned it VASUALLY as she was reading off of her iPad, from HER notes, but that info wasn't in the chart info that I could view. WTH???!! So when I got home that day, I googled it and began to understand what I was faced with. Not grim, but not good either. Longer story short, I made my own appt with a nephrologist and went right over the PAs head. She never even recommended that I see one yet. Just sent me home with a paper that said stay away from nsaids (been off them for 5 years now, but the damage is done) and try the Mediterranean diet. That was it! The nephrologist was very informative and I'm so glad we had a consultation. Don't wait for a doc to refer you--insist on it as soon as possible to educate yourself, ease your mind, and give you a launching point from which to dive into better kidney health. I work alone, so I can listen to an assortment of videos like this. Sometimes info can be contradictory but I find that eventually I figure out what makes the most sense and use that. Good luck all!

Whenever I think about my kidneys, or hear someone else talking about their kidney problems, I get a queasy, slightly nauseaous feeling - not pleasant; but I need to deal with this. My risk factors: Obesity Too much caffeine Not enough water Not enough sleep Too much salt Sometimes holding it too long (like when I'm driving). Occasional use of NSAID drugs (but not too often). On the plus side: Non-smoker, non-drinker, eat mostly plant-based protein. I'm going to take your advice; much appreciated.

This is a VERY VERY GOOD guidance about the whole problem, not only with kidneys but with health in general! In short and logically, it all comes to two basic things: More movement and physical efforts during the day PLUS the proper nutrition and eating habits (-harder and harder to obtain in polluted modern profit centered world we're living in). So, those living in the country, of their own manual work in making their own food - are blessed and privileged and this will only increase in the future!

I was always dismissive of advice that said salt increases BP putting it down to anti-caking agents in common salt - learnt the hard way that even excessive organic sea salt can have an adverse effect . Good real life advice .

My first time here,i've subbed and happy to follow a person walking the talk. I have lived with Hiv virus for 30 years now and i fear for the worst from Bp, kidney and heart problems which progress with longterm drug use. I will try to reduce my painkiller intake because i became addicted to painkillers. I pray you make it to your fullest and be happy. Lots of love to you and yours.

Dadvice TV - Kidney Health Coach I think part of my damage was due to pain pills Ibuprofen You’ve inspired me sir thank you so much

Glad to hear you have been inspired! Armed with more information you will be able to have a much better, deeper, and more meaningful conversations with your health team....improving the chance of getting better! My kidney damage was also caused by NSAIDs - took Advil for back pain from a car accident for almost a year. Didn’t overdue it, just 1 or two pills a day as needed, but Ibuprofen is far more dangerous than then people (and the minor warning the FDA has placed on the bottle) know.

Dadvise, thanks a million for sharing your experience and advice. It's so comforting, hopeful and inspiring listening to you. I wish most doctors master the art of communication with their patients in the way you expanded on this topic. Once again, thanks to you and U-Tube University. It is surely an age of enlightenment.

Thank you so much for your support. My doctor told me to keep a journal - he was certain I would improve and want to be able to go back to everything I did and learned to write a book. I'm not much of a writer, so I'm just continuing to make more videos and sharing with others. Don't miss the live shows I do every Tuesday with renal dietitian Jen Hernandez - awesome information and a lot of fun...plus we have a LIVE chat where you can ask questions.
