12 steel balls each travel along a straight line in a sine wave motion. This gives the illusion that they are forming a rotating circle. Not real, its animated in Blender.
This video seems to have gone viral. I tried to thank everyone who comments but there's now just too many. So..
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

For anyone wondering, this is because balls going back and forth on a slope work on a sine wave, and sines are the same functions that give us the location of a point of a circle for a given angle.

Another reason why this works is because if see the circle at any given moment, the balls closest to the center move the fastest, while as the balls are progressively closer to the top of the inclines, they have less and less velocity until the ball at the top as no velocity. This is similar the mechanics of how a ball rolls.

Perfect example of sine motion. If you mapped the position of each ball in its track to the time, you'd see that it forms the sine function. The offset of each ball track in the circle would be like different cosine sample values, if i'm not mistaken. Therefore the motion of all balls combined IS a circle. Amazing!

I watched this multiple times. It’s amazing. At first my eyes were drawn to all the balls and I saw a circle. Then I purposefully just followed one ball and I did it with several others, in order, while playing again. Each ball DOES just travel in a line. But they are synchronized so each ball just barely misses another when nearing the center.

That's pretty easy when it's a simulation.. What we see here would be impossible in the real world without, perhaps, a magnetic motor underneath moving each ball independently. If you watch closely, you'll see the balls roll right up to each end of their track every time. Also, you couldn't set 12 balls in motion sequentially and get this perfect circle. By the time you set last balls rolling the first balls would have drastically lost inertia to approach the ends of their tracks.

@@patmanrob Not seeing how that would cause the balls to move properly to imitate your simulation. What's the last component supposed to be? One of the balls? One of the magnets? Is this supposed to my under the board in the simulation? Either way, the simulation purports to accomplish the circle of ball bearings with gravity alone, so, not real. But this could also be accomplished with multiple magnets being independently driven on straight tracks without an entire structure moving below.

@Mandorle21
@Mandorle21 5 ай бұрын
Use your brain a little bit, there could be a slight inclination of each "valley" where every single balls roll, all pointing to the center. You could do this in real life too, even though it would be almost impossible to do it this perfectly, you would need very precise tools to carve the wood and take measuraments, and even then, it would probably only lasts a few seconds. Also, keep in mind that there are a ton of people who can believe to everything, just look at how many people believe that AI art is made by a human. And almost no one reads the description, so I bet a lot of people believe this is real and not CGI.
