I recommend the Bucatstate cage. I bought two of them and connected them. When putting them together, I simply left out one acrylic wall from each cage. I then connected the two cages on the outside with a piece of wire. Theoretically, you could connect as many cages as you like and give the hamster lots of space. My hamster feels very comfortable in his cage, which is 200cm x 50cm.
@dreamingwide8 ай бұрын
I looked for quite a while to see if it was possible to connect them like the Niteangel Stacker, happy to know someone managed to connect two Bucastates!

does it feel flimsy at all? i watched a review that said the bottom caved in from just the weight of the bedding and that kinda deterred me from getting it
@Franflora18 ай бұрын
I've read that too. No, my two cages are stable. I have bedding 25 cm high in one cage with a wooden house and cork tubes. I have heavy things in the connected cage: a large sand bath, a stone with a water bowl, ceramic hiding places and the running wheel. Despite the load, neither cage floor is bent.

It’s fantastic to see companies developing and selling bigger more appropriate sized enclosures! It used to be that in order to provide a large enough enclosure, us owners would have to build one, either from scratch, or using an IKEA hack. That was pretty much the only options, aside from aquariums. The fact that multiple companies are now providing bigger enclosures is very encouraging.

@allisondold6349Ай бұрын
How have you liked the cage? I'm considering getting one for my mice but I'm nervous about how sturdy it is/if it's easy for them to chew out of. I think hamsters can be even bigger chewers than mice so if it's working for you that would be encouraging!
@elizabethann8599Ай бұрын
@allisondold6349 no problems at all with the cage. No chew spots on the flooring or sides. I don't think she could even grab anything to chew from the cage itself. It hold together by bands so I was monitoring that as well and still no problems. I've moved her cage around to more quiet rooms during the day and no problems with durability and stability. I woukd definitely reccomend this Cage. Perry is happy in it and doesn't at all desire to find ways out of it. Definitely is roomy to decorate too. I attached a water bottle I bought on Amazon and hooked it to 2 of the breathing holes it has on the acrylic part sides of the cage. I didn't like the standing water bottles cause she kept knocking it down. So it worked out well. Whatever the date is about when I bought the cage and up tp this message is how long I've had it. No problems thus far.

I used to have the pawhut and it really is a great cage, but now I have a glass tank and I would never go back! There is no risk of the hamster chewing out, and it's much easier to clean, especially in case of parasites (where wooden enclosure sometimes need to be replaced entirely). Making a lid is also super easy and affordable, and I got the tank itself second hand for 80€ with a bunch of accessories, so it was a pretty good deal. It's 6000cm²/930 square inches and I will honestly never get a smaller size from now on (this is also the currently recommended minimum for Syrians and Robos in Germany). The only negative is how heavy it is, definitely needs 2 strong people to carry it even when empty.

They were brother and sister from the same litter (obviously kept in different enclosures) I actually did the DIY storage bin cage for both of them. It worked well and they loved it for a while! Until they figured out a way to escape... I looked for them forever and sometimes I still check my mums house when I'm there to see if I can find them... it broke my heart! After that experience I am afraid to DIY my own cages.... sp having this guide of which cages are available on the market is so great for me! The enclosure is great, I can make the bedding really deap for him but I had to wire mesh the wooden roof as he would chew it at every area he could reach. When ever I haven’t been in when he’s ready for free roam he will show his frustration but chewing the roof (I catch him on the hamcam)

I have the large bucatstate cage in white for my male Syrian and I love it! He seems to like it too. My one complaint is that the acrylic can be a little rattling in the metal frame if it gets bumped but just be careful with that and it’s not an issue. Size wise it’s great tho if u have a more active hamster like a female Syrian she might need more space for more enrichment. Casper seems satisfied with his stuff at the moment so I haven’t had any issues of him chewing it or trying to climb out. I highly recommend esp for a dwarf hamster or a more chill Syrian like mine

Note about the UK shop hamster homes: they’ve recently added a wall height extension customisation option, which is an additional 30cm, available for all of their cage sizes. Their 180cm x 60cm cage is out of stock at the moment, but they have a height customisation for that size. This is the biggest and best cage I’ve seen so far without DIYing yourself. The cage doesn’t allow a lot of bedding without the wall height customisation, so please make sure you add that if you want to buy from there. I hope this helps.

I have the niteangel bigger world large size for our dwarf hamster. I really like it!! It holds lots of hides, and I have 9- 12 inches of bedding through the whole thing, and it's great!!! The only thing I will say is a drawback is that it's pretty, deep, and we also have wheels on ours, so it's a tad taller, which is nice, but you gotta really bend to clean down to the very bottom.

I have the Vista for my syrian hamster. Even though I do, I have to keep him busy. Oddly enough, mine likes to be awake in the morning, as late as 10 am. PS: I recommend building your vista on a table or go to home depot, buy an affordable piece of wood slighty larger than your cage, add feet/support, including the middle, and build your cage on it. I live in the north of the US and the floor gets too cold.

It's nice to see that it is evolving the good way. Unfortunately pet stores in our country don't reflect that trend yet and offer mostly bad alternatives (small and high cages). Currently upgrading from bin cage (approx 75x50x40cm) to custom made 110x50x40cm, just need to mount it. Our sweet winter white dwarf hybrid Bob passed away in February. May I mention one cage that was on your website in the past. It is less than $100 and is more than 600 square feet, tall enough for the largest wheel and most of the other enrichment needed for a Syrian hamster. It also has a pan which is 6" deep. I added another 6" by adding a liner so there is plenty of digging being done. The Prevue Pet 528. This is for the people who can't afford a $200 cage, aren't handy or are saving up for a larger one. My ham seems pretty happy. No chewing of bars or climbing them. I do use Niteangel products for wheels, sand baths and such. But the cages don't fit my current budget.

Hi Victoria. Thanks for the awesome videos. I just wanted to ask, do you tend to keep your cages on the floor or do you put them on a table/storage unit? I'm looking at getting an enclosure but they are all very deep (more than 50cm) and all the sideboards I have in my house (mostly ikea furniture) have a depth of around 40cm which is obviously too small to place the enclosure on top of. Do you or any of this community have a recommendation of a unit to place an enclosure on top of, or is it pretty standard to just have them on the floor? Thanks!

does the cage feel flimsy at all? i was thinking of getting it but I watched a review that said the bottom caved in from just the weight of the bedding and that def made me rethink getting one

Someone recommended me to you from TikTok and this was the best recommendation ever

I’m getting a hamster soon, I’m trying to find a big cage that isn’t really expensive. Any recommendations?

What was the size that you used for the DIY one?

Heyya!! I have a male dwarf hamster and I noticed his scent gland looked large and very yellow (slightly crusty) I was wondering if I should take him into the vet or if it was just a normal "don't worry about it" Kind of thing? Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I love all the vids 🥰
@VictoriaRaechel8 ай бұрын
If it's crusty and larger than normal I'd visit a vet incase it's infected :)

what is your opinion on bin cages? I was thinking about getting a dwarf on a budget and was wondering if a 130L clear bin with a DIY mesh lid would be good for a dwarf
@VictoriaRaechel6 ай бұрын
If you can find a bin with 800 Sq inches it can be an option ☺️ If not I wouldn't recommend it long term.

Hi Victoria some nights my hamster doesn’t run on his wheel but he burrows eats explores the enclosure and even potty in the sand bath is that ok ? Also my (Syrian) hamster weighs 170 grams is he over weight? Words cannot express how much I love your channel and pets 😊😊😊😊

Those behaviours and weight are both fine ☺️

Did you have any problems with your hamster chewing on it? Considering getting some for my mice but I'm afraid of them chewing through it since it's made of wood and acrylic.

Omg, I have been dreaming about this video! I’ve seen many other people make them, but either the cages have too many cons and 1 pro. It’s really hard to find a hamster cage at least 800 sq inches online!

Hi Victoria! I can learn a lot of hamster tips from you :D. I would like to ask if you always open the air conditioner or fan for hamsters or you open just sometimes in a day? I don't know how I can do to not make hamster be hot TT
@VictoriaRaechel8 ай бұрын
Hi! So where I live the way our A/C units typically work is that they are on all the time and you set what you'd like the overall home temperature to be and it regulates it to keep it at that exact temperature.
