To all my fellow beginning skaters: please watch out for your backs whzn stretching! Often when we're inflexible and really want to do the stretch pose, we compensate in our backs for a lack of hip flexibilty!! When stretching, always try to keep your back straight and your abs and back muscles engaged. Flex forward in your hips and not your back!!

I'm a beginning skater at 54! These stretches will be soooooo helpful! Still learning the basics and definitely need to be more flexible. THANK YOU for your channel and what you do to help skaters of all levels. I don't have the $$$ right now for lessons, so your videos are the next best thing. You have a grateful skater in Charlotte, NC!

I REALLY need to get back to stretching.. 2 years ago when i had just started figure skating I stretched everyday and was able to almost do a full V stretch (didn't have my arm the way you held your leg and we call it the Y lol) It's so motivating and I love these stretching exercises which i never knew of (except the butterfly which i constantly do when sitting)

I have really bad hip pain from rollerblading 15-20 miles sessions, 3-4 times a week and messing with these stretches for a few mins my hips already feel so much better. Ill def be adding these stretches to my routine. Thanks coach!

Amazing stretch routine! I can definitely feel the difference after going through everything. The v spiral stretch is absolutely brutal, but I did wayyyy better than I thought I could! Doing all of the other exercises & stretches leading up to it certainly helped!

All I want to do is be able to do transitions on roller skates, but I can’t keep my feet at an angle any bigger than like 140 degrees for long enough. This is the best video for hip stretches that I’ve found so far, hopefully it works! 🙏

Hi, Michelle, thank you for these stretching tips! I am one of those old people that didn't learn to skate as a kid, I have been stretching every single day since finding your channel! I am at pre-freestyle level now and am very confused about when and if I need to get new boots and blades, could you do an episode on when we need intermediate level blades and boots and things to consider when selecting boots and blades? Is it better to go directly to advanced level skates? and also where best to buy and get fitted? I don't even know what level blade or boot my skates are....I basically only see price and color, know nothing else.

Hi! I’m going to try this :) I’m wondering if you could make a video about how to do deep forward outside edges. I know it’s basic for many, but I really wondering how to get the outside edge. Do I have to bend my ankle, where should the pressure be?... etc. I can only have flat edge, and a little bit inside egde, and no outside at all. I learn so much by watching your videos!
@CoachMichelleHong5 жыл бұрын
Lina B yes please try these and let me know how it goes!! I’ll try to add that to my list of videos. The best tips I have are to bend your knees and lean in towards the curve you’re gliding on!
@ericas93114 жыл бұрын
Michelle! Gosh, I just love you. This is the first stretching video to actually help me. And on the first try!!!! BUT the bench stretch where you brought head down to leg- that didn’t happen. I did well on the spider and the froggie. I couldn’t quite get the spiral or the sprout butttttt I got closer than I’ve ever been. First night so I’m optimistic. What I noticed for the spiral was my shoulder blades hurt? Felt like an awful lot of pressure and like whichever side of the arm I used to grab my leg was pushed inward as far as it could go so I was concerned. I’m 26. So not terribly old lol any tips for arm and back pain with this? Not like injury pain just a lot of pressure from never moving this way but it’s super uncomfortable. Also are there any back or arm stretches for movements like the standing split and biellmann that you recommend???? Or do you just have to kind of keep trying everyday until your body just accepts it??? You’re the best, Michelle!! I appreciate you a lot. A lot of the young girls doing lessons at our rink... their hearts just aren’t in it! Yours is and it’s amazing.
