My husband and I moved to Sandpoint from Eugene, Oregon and bought our house on 5 acres in December 2020. We have four neighbors that have 5 to 10 acres on our road. It’s the perfect scenario for my husband and I. We don’t hang out with the neighbors but have exchanged phone numbers . This winter was a rough one. It just didn’t want to leave. Spring popped in 3 or 4 time then winter pushed it away with snow, hail and a windstorm. People moving here that like to garden need to plan on a shorter growing season . We built a 18’x34’ greenhouse last spring. We have a fence around the garden beds outside to protect our food from the deer and moose and other wildlife. We have absolutely no regrets moving from the cul-de-sac we lived at for 20 years to the country life we are living now. God has blessed us.

Listen, that's a great video. Pretty accurate. However, I understand you don't want to offend people but let's admit that the primary reason people move to Idaho is to escape living under democrat policies. And the housing market is exploding not just because of those corporations getting into real estate but rather people keeping a California job and living in a place like Kuna idaho where they can shove out any idaho family. A 30 year old couple can put an offer 50k above asking because they're company is paying them to live in San Jose but they live in Middleton idaho of all places. Mark my words, none of them would move here if they had to work in idaho. If anyone is angry about the beautiful America joe biden has us living in now and the American dream in idaho disappearing, you can thank the governors of Oregon Washington and California. Those 3 ruined my idaho. They don't move here for outdoors buddy, it's to escape democrats. If you disagree you don't know crap to be quite honest

Leaving New York and headed to Florida, leaving Minneapolis and headed to South Dakota and leaving California and headed to Idaho. And its not a 2 way street. Thankfully, in a rural residential area where the county won't allow it to be subdivided anymore. Idaho is gorgeous, but it's not for the faint of heart. Protect? How? I thought Idaho was free market utopia. If you value your freedom to stay and not someone else’s freedom to move, do you really value freedom? Before you think this is a total mock (and there is some of that present), just know that Portland faces many of the same issues. For a city that supposedly burned down (as if), it’s amazing that it took 21 months into a pandemic before property values started falling… and some would argue that this hasn’t really happened. Certainly among rentals, properties that have been bought up by conglomerates keep prices high because an algorithm is calculating rents to maximize profits WITHOUT renting 100% of properties. Guess what causes the homeless issues here and elsewhere.

Well I lived thru Californians ruining Seattle in the 80's and there was a lot of "hate" but that didn't stop them moving in. I recall friends in Portland going thru the same thing and yes "hate" did enter the conversation. Spend some time in Texas and Arizona and you'll hear a lot of it also. Idaho isn't the only place having an issue and 2022 isn't the first time this has happened. Bottom line is nothing will stop the migration because they're leaving a place they've destroyed and for them going into a place that doesn't want them is better than living in a place they ruined.

Thank you! I moved to Idaho just to be closer to my son who lives in WA (why, I don't know!) since my husband passed but the main reason I'm leaving is the climate! While I realize we are in a La Nina climate cycle making it colder longer, I don't think a El Nino climate cycle in Idaho would be that much better. I am older and the weather is just too cold for me. (I moved in winter and one day I clocked the temp at -4. Yikes!) Younger people will understand this as they age. Idaho is a beautiful state and I think it has a lot to offer those who are younger. It's a very outdoorsy place! For others who are actually living there: Is it true as he says, that you "can't make a living" on low-end jobs? It doesn't sound logical, because then no one can live there and do those low-end jobs. I hear all the time how "it's impossible to live like X", "it's impossible to be on only one salary", and I call it BS. I live in Norway, and me and my husband are basically living on one salary, me only working a little bit here and there for residence rights. It's insanely expensive here and the taxes are sky high, we came here with absolutely nothing, but we make it work and are making money all the time, because we don't like a luxurious boomer lifestyle. We are thinking of moving to the US to live off-grid (Idaho, Alaska or New Hampshire most likely), but we have a very modest lifestyle and expectations. I think a lot of people don't realize how much money they are truly wasting.

After living in Boise for 25 years, I left for three reasons: 1. Heat. Boise is rapidly getting hotter, nearly 30 100+ days last summer. 2. Smoke. I got tired of having to check the air quality index to see if it is safe to go for a run or bike ride. 3. Traffic. The population has exploded and I am not a patient person. I moved to the Michigan UP and all three problems are solved.

@@conniediaz6456 I moved from California to Idaho in the 1990s and left in 2008. I gave up locality pay moving to Idaho, and while the rent I paid went down in that manner, costs of other things actually went up. More competition in California. The rent I would pay In Silicon Valley is 3 times higher than it was when I left 29 years ago. The rent I would pay in Boise is almost twice as high as what I paid when I left 14 years ago. Arguably, if you do the math, it’s the same rate of increase. I moved to Portland from Boise, to an apartment rather close to downtown. That was less than $900 a month when I moved in vice $610 when leaving Boise. The Portland rent doubled, but I’m in the suburbs now because me and my wife needed something bigger. Parents moved from Portland to Canby in 1991 and their house is 3.5 times more valuable now. Sister moved to a house in SE Portland, might have paid $200K or so back in 2000, now worth over $600K. About the only substantial town where one can find a smaller $200K house now is in a town my wife will never set foot in again. So while a lot of Boise homes are “competitive” with that SE Portland home price, values in rural Oregon are comparatively unreasonable (expect a lot of $400K). But for me, Oregon is no more expensive.

I left CDA because a median home is 14x the median salary. I now live in the Midwest and although not my ideal preference, it's half as expensive to live here. I was absolutely disgusted with how they broke the real estate equation, which used to be 3-5x median salary in the US in general. Employment used to dictate prices. Now it's outside money dictating it, whether rich boomers from the left coast or the trillion dollar hedge funds. They destroyed the investment market by choosing to buy an investment property that yields you 0.3% monthly rent to buy price when the rule has been 1% for decades! And the 15-20% appreciation in North ID started back in 2014-15, then in 2021 reached over 30%!! 350 median price on 35k median salary wasn't bad enough so by the end of 2022 they were pushing mid 500k range. That's when i decided f CDA. We were trying to compete with all cash offers going 25% over asking then when the remote BS started, we had to compete with a-holes making 300k/yr on top of their briefcases full of cash. All the while quality of life going downhill fast because of the newcomers. I hope those boomers enjoy their $85 lawn mows in their 6k sf lots. Plus, you're 100% right about people not being very friendly, definitely not Southern hospitality. You have 2 types of groups - the middle of nowhere don't come over asking for sugar crowd who has lived there for ever and the big city newcomers avoiding eye contact at all cost. Only time they show up and chat you up is when you're selling the house and they all of a sudden are acting very neighborly. Anything north of Moscow is garbage because you start running out of land to build on. It's very sad how much it changed for the worse in just 12 short years for us.

According to stats from Idaho, 64,000 moved in last year, and 57,000 left. That’s kind of substantial for a state that’s headed for 2 million in population, in both directions, especially considering that movement supposedly tapered off nationwide a handful of years before the pandemic started. Now I’m someone who doesn’t really buy into the ideology that’s barely hidden here, but I can concur with part of the sentiment expressed as I lived in Idaho for several years and also grew up (and again live) in Oregon, seeing very different types of growth, but the same patterns. A lot of people move with the hope of leaving their past, their baggage, behind. But that baggage virtually always finds a way to travel with you; it’s you that has to confront it. And going to a place that supposedly “shares your values” ALWAYS ends up running headlong into the baggage you or others bring. Just saying.

I hear the same thing everywhere regarding increase in population. There is short- sidedness in the thinking processes of some people. All places are growing . If you have kids and you yourself don’t die or your own parents are still alive , it increases the population. In which case, YOU are the cause. Also people moving in from other states and other countries. So it is irresponsible thinking on the part of those who do not want growth. Stuckness is a mindset. If you look at nature, the universe, growth is a part of all that is living. Celebrate being a part of life.

Outsiders....like the European ancestors who pillaged and plundered upon arrival? Or are you implying people should stay in the state they were born in and never venture into a different lifestyle or yearn for new scenery? Sounds very close-minded. I would worry more about non-productive residents and crime and less about where people are moving there from.. A good person is a good person no matter where they got their start.

@@michelleluther1135 my people were killing each other and pillaging each other long before the Europeans found this country. As for your good people statement, outsiders have been coming to Idaho for the last 40 year's and paying twice as much for homes as the local economy can support. The other problem is they leave California to get away from the policies that have destroyed it,then vote in the same socialist policies here. Seriously if you want to live in a socialist country, don't fvck this one up, move to Cuba or Venezuela.

Maybe north Idahon’s could learn and practice handing snow and ice properly like everywhere else it snows regularly in, stop overpricing, not scheduling, and lying for normal every day services. I called a mover to help leave sandpoint who told he has a “spa day” for himself today and will let me know when works for him to schedule a quote. He had a massage scheduled day before yesterday he told me about before he could give me a quote too. This is constant. Groceries, hair, car, tires, everything. I’m not making this up. I lived in Kelso, Washington as a teenager, I thought that was bad, but north idaho is a whole other level of slum debauchery, painting buildings black now like everywhere here too. I’ve lived in many towns and cities in 7 states, my great great grandma and great grandma lived in Idaho, I have family here, visited since I was a kid, and I have never seen such crappy lazy nonsensical evil corrupt slummy people who behave like they keep their filthy iced snowy dangerous sidewalks and roads in cities even and I keep having such a horrendous time doing basic life things. But this canyon is SO beautiful! Oh stop, it’s pretty here, but not THAT pretty. I’d rather be almost anywhere than here. Good riddance to bad rubbish! I’ll leave Idaho and never ever look back! Have fun with the elite kaniksu black robe Jewish jesuit priests screwing you over! And you think you’re not selling out. You already did!

@@hayleymeagan1014 Right? I was hoping to go further to the north pole and escape this realm to Shangri-La there but I figured that might be too dangerous so I’m going south to where it doesn’t snow to southern Utah. I’m from California mostly too, maybe I’ll go back there because maybe I needed to live here for 3 1/2 years to see how horrible North Idaho and the people are and weather and how frustrating it is to hear people sugarcoat it like it’s a great place and don’t move here because I own it even though I have ancestry here. This guy in his video is quite typical of up here, condensending looks like shit cheap they talk to you like you’re a four-year-old up here everywhere at least to me and they act like they know everything when you can tell that their IQ is probably lucky to be pushing 65. I’m serious I think there might be something in the water here inbreeding maybe too mentality of being lazy I’m not sure what the deal is up here but it’s very weird. Not to say that’s not everywhere too but I think this whole realm is rigged and there is no escaping I came all the way up here and it was just the same if not worse actually way worse than California. Imagine California but with worse and weirder combinations of people and snow and ice so you can’t even literally get food or do things you need to do and that people do not maintain the snow and ice like they do in Utah so I think it’s funny that they’re acting like this is some special place maybe used to be but certainly not now at least not for me.

If you don’t believe in religion or it makes you uncomfortable this place will not make you happy. Just like if you have radical left ideals this place will be rough on you. Just saying…

My great aunt and grandmother were born in Salt Lake City and grew up in Jerome (north of Twin Falls, for those onlooking). The short life story she wrote included a bit of a lament of the number of Mormons proliferating in Jerome (Protestant, of course)… but she was someone who led by example and also traveled considerably and thus knew plenty about outreach. I should note that Mormons were banned from voting in Idaho until the 1970s… not that I know if and how that was enforced. Just emphasizing that, like all places, there’s always some sort of tension at least bubbling under the surface.

Every week I lead a caravan of 500-1,000 Californian migrants directly into the heart of Boise. Each of them brings approx. $1M in liquid capital to purchase whatever homes they can. Already we have multiple proposals in to the city to rename Boise to "Little Los Angeles". Soon we shall move north and buy up the rest of the state. In less than ten years Idaho will be New California, you cannot stop us. We are legion.

I am looking forward to moving west to live closer to my daughter and was looking at Post Falls. I have been asking around and found someone with a friend out there. She absolutely hates it there. If you do not agree with some of the far right conspiracy theories, are deeply religious, and/or extremely racist she says this is not the place for you. Don't misunderstand, her friend is a republican, but it is too crazy out there even for her. She does not feel safe and says people out there need to carry a gun with them at all times to protect themselves from the far right extremist lunatics.
