You HAVE to adjust your preboost fueling on your truck now. All that black smoke is because it’s dumping waaaay too much fuel down low, causing the turbo to spool slower, as well as higher egts down low. I’d recommend backing off the smoke screw until it JUST touches the AFC rod (you’ll feel it), and re run it. If you’re still dumping smoke, use the star wheel to add more spring tension to remove fueling down low. Fun fact: I had the EXACT same setup you were running on my truck. Was a maxed out stock fuel setup, afc foot modified, fuel plate cut and moved forward, and the hx35 was hanging out around 38psi. I needed more air. I upgraded to AGP turbos T51R Borg S369SXE and after just the turbo swap, the truck was a TURD. After making a few adjustments on the AFC, it came to life and would finally spin through second gear, and was building 30lbs no problem. MUCH more power. Now I’ve just dropped in a built 0 mile 12v with billet everything and DDP stage 4 injectors, Mack plug, 191 DVs, and 20* timing. Just did my first startup last Saturday, going to be finishing the install and getting the cooking system hooked up so I can break in the camshaft etc

What up! That new turbo sounds wild!! Even if that turbo was stock that you pulled off you should see 35 psi out of it with the right pump work and timing done. Im excited to see what you'll end up doin with the truck! If the next video does end up being fueling, id suggest doing an AFC live from Power driven diesel, its so nice having a live in cab fuel adjustment. 4k govener springs for sure, just dont rev it over 3k until you do valve springs, some stage 2 powerjet injectors from PDD, or 5 by .016 injectors, and .25 delivery valves. A mechanical lift pump upgrade is for sure worth it, and a rack plug might be worth while too, but eventually. You have the smaller 160 pump in that truck so that slighly larger delivery valve will be perfect. Do the timing as well, bump it up to atleast 18 degrees, you can go more when you have studs. once all that is done, adjust your preboost, also known as your smoke screw, and adjust your starwheel if the startup isnt instant and requires a little throttle imput. for piece of mind, if you dont know if the killer dowel pin is fixed , it is absoultely needed pushin the power youre gonna be pushin. I didn't even mention trans stuff but thatll be for another video im sure! youre gonna blow through that stock converter so quick lol, a lockup switch is a good starting point. Maybe one day you consider goin on a compound setup, you can use your 369 as the top turbo and run a he351 or a build hx35 on the bottom and youll easlily be mid to high 600s with it starting spoolup at 1400rpm. Shes gonna RIP!! Love the content keep it up!
@darkirondieselАй бұрын
Hey man love the advice! The next video will just be adding the DDP stage 3 injectors, then the video after that will be doing the delivery valves and fuel plate on the p pump. After that I’ll do studs and we can get into timing. Trying to show dyno results every step along the way to show you how you need all the supporting mods to make everything come together. The truck currently has a fass on it but it’s an older smaller pump. I have a new fass for it too which will probably be a video on its own as well. I’ve never worked on a p pump before so it’s going to be a learning experience for me but I am excited to see what we can do. As for the compound set up, I’m planning on doing compounds on my 5th gen. The 2nd gen will be turned into a drag truck so one massive single is all I really need. I don’t need good drivability with the 2nd get as it’s just a “fun” truck. And lastly, the transmission on the 2nd gen has been built but it was so long ago the company that did it doesn’t have the records on it anymore. But it definitely has an updated torque converter they said. How long will it last? I guess we’ll find out. Then ideally I’d like to go to a full manual valve body.
@HAKLJRАй бұрын
@@darkirondiesel Those DDP stage 3 injectors are sweet, that's a perfect match for the power goals you have! It'll be really interesting to see the dyno numbers as you do all the modifications incrementally, nobody on youtube that i've seen has done that before with a p pump truck, it'll be super informative! Even with the fass system that is still on the truck, the 12 valves have a cam driven, mechanical lift pump bolted to the block on the drivers side, just below and to the right of the p pump. that will for for sure be a restriction when you flowin the fuel that those 5 by .015 DDP stage 3 injectors will demand and the fuel your new fass system will provide, but that'll be for another video. DDP as you know recommends a timing bump with those injectors, but I'm sure they'll still rip on factory timing. And yeah that's a perfect plan with the trans, we will find out eventually! Splitting this whole process up into a bunch of videos is an awesome idea, there's so much information to share about each modification you're gonna do! Honestly you could make a video on each part and not run out of really interesting information to share. Each part of these trucks are such rabbit holes, i'm super excited for this series! Keep up the good work brotha!!

That’s a turbo you’d use in compounds as the big turbo for a light application. My 12v had a 57 over 76mm compound setup and with every fuel mod other than big injectors (still had too much fuel) and stock plungers in the pump and it mad 643hp and 1172tq. Need small turbo to spoil that or you have to build boost if you can with that thing

I like the camera angle from a second person. I recommend a gimbal stabilizer for your camera to reduce the shake. Also there is to much bouncing between filming you and filming what you are doing to the truck. Be more selective on what you are intending to capture and focus on capturing that.

I upgraded my turbo to a Cheetah in my ‘19 and plan to do injectors soon. Maybe 15% over?
@joshuaquilliam2887Ай бұрын
Go bigger than you think, trust me it sucks buying injectors multiple times. 100 overs are always a safe size. Plenty of room to grow and still good mileage. At minimum I would say 45% overs. We always want more and more power, it gets boring again quick.
@darkirondieselАй бұрын
My opinion is it depends what you want to do with the truck. If you just want to daily drive it then get injectors on the lower end. If you want to abuse the truck and have a lot of fun with it go bigger

The turbo is too big. It needs to spool and more fuel won’t fix that. You’ve lost power because you’ve lost air because you can’t spoil that big turbo. Air doesn’t add much power, it burns the fuel you have and lowers your egts so you do t smoke your engine when you over fuel a truck. Those 5.9s work better with compounds. What size is that turbo?

My torque wrench is based on how many fingers are on the wrench. I have had bad luck with smedding turbos. They seem to last about 6 months at best. If you rip all day long every day or about 12k miles. I have killed 1 362 and 2 364turbos in less than a year on my daily with maybe 550hp. Boost is only 45psi max. Maybe you will have better luck
@darkirondieselАй бұрын
I’ve installed a few Smeding non vgt swaps on 6.7 Cummins and never had any issues so far, but we will see. This turbo is going to be abused to the max on this truck so if any turbo is gonna fail it should be this one 😂

@@darkirondiesel I have a tune on it. I have all the supporting mods. I often push a little past 5k rpms. I can only assume this is part of why i keep kilning them. Though the guy on the phone when I told him my driving habits said I should not be able to stress the turbo at all. I have never been on the dyno. So i truly don't know the power level on non of my trucks. I have unofficially raced a lot of exotic cars. So far I have only lost to one of them. Some of them may not even have been racing but rather trying to prevent me from passing... I run out of road by about 120-140 mph cuz traffic, but I always reel everyone in quickly. I never go faster than I can stop. I am sure I could squeez it to 180 but then I would have to brake super hard. I asked for direct borg warner interchage numbers, but no answers on that. My truck is donw again, but after 3 quick fails I think I will go back to Borg. I have not broke one of those yet.
