12 volt generator & electronic regulator install 1946

This video is of me installing the 12 volt generator and electronic regulator. I was tired of not having good light at night and worried about people not see the light during the day. Also see my video of me changing the 6 Volt Cutout Relay to a 12 Volt Voltage Regulator and The fake battery box, made by Bates - Batboy MH5 Part # 009502, makes it so you can use a small 12 volt battery and have it look like a 6 volt battery that originally came with the motorcycle.

Did you flash the generator ? Like hot wire from battery to generator. To the one of , two posts on generator

@@harolddalesr8365 I did do that back when I put the bike on the road in the late 90’s but I sent it out and had a full rebuild done to it.

Do you typically not shim the generators or check backlash on knuckles/early pans? I'm just curious on your opinion on it, not being rude.

Since nothing changed from when I removed the generator it should be fine. If the gear is tight they will whine. The best way to check these is to install the generator with the cam cover removed and check that it has some backlash. That you for watching.

Another way to check it is to take the brush plate off the back of the generator and spin the shaft. You'll feel the lash or you'll feel that it doesn't have any.

@@Rapsgarage Thanks for the reply. When I first built my 46 knuck I started with one shim and didn't physically check the backlash. No whine or any bad noise so I let it be for the year, but next time it's on the table I'm checking it over.
