On a related note, I’d love to see a video dedicated to casual alternatives to sneakers. I believe the Gazette did a sneaker guide a while ago, and while they do have their place, it feels like a lot of men are convinced they need to wear sneakers to dress casually, when there are plenty of more stylish alternatives that elevate your look. I’m thinking desert boots, bucks, loafers, boat shoes, heritage workboot / service boot styles - the sort of thing people wore when sneakers were still exclusively for athletic pursuits.

I agree with everything except the denim jacket. I’m 51 and I am very aware of my age. When I hit 40, I naturally shopped at more age appropriate stores. I know what looks too ridiculous on me. I too have bought things like a thick cotton shirt that makes me sweat and the skully caps . You are so right about those. They collect dust. The one piece in my wardrobe that I added last spring was a dark resin denim jacket from J. Crew. I would never wear a washed or faded one. It’s a great essential to balance chinos and cotton oxfords for a casual look. For some reason, I feel more comfortable in one during spring. Not so much in the fall. I loved this video. You are awesome! Thank you!

We've all got our fair share of regret buys, but sometimes you have to put them in perspective. I have a fur lined bomber hat (kind of like the fur hat you showed, but not fur on the outside) that I spent way too much on (don't ask). I've had it for more than 25 years and in that time have probably only worn it a couple dozen times. Yes it sits in the closet "collecting dust" but on that rare, once a year or so occasion I've worn it I absolutely needed it.
