People who linger in the shore sometimes get pulled in the current and drown; all of life's goodies lie in places where the waves seem rough and boisterous. Fortune favors the brave who is willing to brave life's rough and tempestuous waves.

Hey guys, please check the description for links to resources & everything mentioned!! I saw a lot of comments asking for my fave podcasts & what tarot deck that is 🙃 Also, here’s a question I've always wanted to ask: What term do you usually use to describe this topic? I used to know it as "self improvement" "self help" or "personal development" when I first learned about it - then when I started Lavendaire I intentionally chose the terms "personal growth" and "lifestyle design" because I liked the sound of those better. I've noticed people outside the US call it "self development" and I've heard "self actualization" too. There are so many options - what term do you use the most?

Maybe this is a bit too corporate, but in my company we use the term "Development Planning". As an L&D specialist, I like this from the perspective that it makes it *intentional* - if you plan for it, it happens. It could also be "Growth Planning" or "Upleveling" (I think I just invented this one :D).

It is rather sad and pathetic that most people live their whole lives and leave this world without ever knowing that they were born rich, educated, and talented. Isn't that blustery and awful? You are richer and more prosperous than you would have ever thought in your wildest dream.

As I was watching this I kept thinking of this poem by Edgar Lee Masters, which is one of my favorites! It's about a man telling his story from the grave who never expanded himself, and egrets it. Thanks so much for this! I'm passing it on to my clients. Inspirational! GEORGE GRAY I have studied many times The marble which was chiseled for me-- A boat with a furled sail at rest in a harbor. In truth it pictures not my destination But my life. For love was offered me and I shrank from its disillusionment; Sorrow knocked at my door, but I was afraid; Ambition called to me, but I dreaded the chances. Yet all the while I hungered for meaning in my life. And now I know that we must lift the sail And catch the winds of destiny Wherever they drive the boat. To put meaning in one's life may end in madness, But life without meaning is the torture Of restlessness and vague desire-- It is a boat longing for the sea and yet afraid.
