The reason lies in the differing caliber of the writers between the current iteration and the original production of the show. The present writers lack the distinct comedic prowess that characterized the original creators. During my viewings of Roseanne, I would find myself chuckling intensively, often utilizing the commercial breaks to regain my composure just to continue laughing when the show resumed. Reflecting on my preferred television lineup from that era, it was dominated by 1. Roseanne, 2. Family Ties, and 3. Married... with Children. These shows boasted some of the most adept humorists of the 80s. In contrast, the contemporary writers fall significantly short in capturing that essence.

One of the best is when Roseanne catches Becky with the older boy outside at the garage. Becky: "It's not your business mother." The original Roseanne show to me is the best realistic family sitcom I've ever seen. John Goodman and her were perfect as a struggling down to earth blue collar couple just trying to get by.. The relationship between Becky and Darlene was as authentic as two sisters could have. Arguing, shouting, making fun of each other and talking about boys and school stuff, puberty issues, first dates...they covered it all. I couldn't see any acting, (when actors don't sound like they are reading off and relying on the script to give their characters a personality, that to me is great acting) it sounded and felt like genuine emotions when they spoke...it was like listening in on a real family's life...with very witty humor.. Aunt Jacky had her issues with insecurities and choosing bad dates, being at their house to much and irritating Dan. Often hilarious that tension... The relationship between Jacky and Roseanne was complicated but believable as sisters that argued, but undoubtedly needed each other. I loved that family growing up. I still love the early episodes as much as back then. She was extremely clever, witty, and truthful. Her show pioneered a lot. I respect her tremendously for being bold. She made a comment on Twitter, I don't give a damn...The Connors without Roseanne was ridiculous. To even think of continuing without her would make me feel betrayed by the actors that were given a stage because of her. That's my take on it.

I love everything about your comment!!! Thank you! And I agree… one dumb Twitter mistake and they grabbed they grabbed the torches!!! I am insanely obsessed with Roseanne! When it was relaunched in 2018 myself, my spouse and our kids made sure we had the popcorn ready and made it a weekly family night to watch, (almost like it was back in the late 80’s and early 90’s, we didn’t DVR it, we actually sat down as a family with all of us to watch) then they abruptly cancelled it, even my kids won’t watch the new show “The Conner’s” since Roseanne is no longer part of the show. Some of the most underrated lines of this show. "Oh call the 800 number." "...we are your 800 number, Becky." When Bev finds out she's an alcoholic and Darlene says "baking with Drunken Hines." When Darlene meets Fisher and asks "Aren't you in my science class?" and at the end when Fisher shows up and Bev answers the door and says "Darlene, your boyfriend's here!" When Dan has to work on his anniversary and he's on the phone and says "can you swing by in a ski mask and drag me off at gunpoint?" Right before the infamous Auntie Barbara scene Jackie says "I can't call people I'm supposed to be in mourning" and Roseanne says "Then wear a veil over your face when you do it." When David asks Darlene to choose me or the other guy and she says the other guy and he says "That's right, or me, choose." When David and Darlene get into a fight and they're setting the table for dinner and Dan keeps saying "it doesn't matter." When DJ is peaking at Becky and then he does it to Darlene and Becky asks "Why?" When Dan and Roseanne get into the fight after his heart attack, and David talks to him about marriage and Dan says "You've only been married for 8 days." and David says "Yeah, but to Darlene..." When Jackie, Fred, and Dan are drunk in the garage and Jackie says "Bev, non alcoholic beverage is in there!" When Roseanne asks Dan "what did he say" and Dan says "If I remember correctly ouch, ouch, my head." When Darlene says "George? I thought you hated him" and DJ says "You must be thinking of you." When Jake says "Craftmatic Adjustable Bev." When Dan and Roseanne are fighting after his heart attack and he says "At least I put my mom in a psychiatric home instead of letting her run around scaring people!" What a great show. I'm sure there are dozens of other underrated moments.
