I have heard this song sung by so many people that I think I can consider myself a connoisseur of Hallelujah. Professional singers, amateur singers, young and old, male and female; I love the music from wherever it comes, but some stand head and shoulders above the others. This version has got to be at least in the top five ever, and I believe that it only comes alive when the singer puts his/her heart and soul into it. You've got it nailed. I wish you a long and successful career.

Radio Wales the canadian tenors do it best...and interestingly enough, the writer, leonard cohen does it the worst...this version is ok about a 7/10 as it's too nasaly

Rick Anderson I appreciate your opinion. Maybe Leonard Cohen did best of all for us by supplying the lyrics to begin with, he didn't have to be the best singer as well. I measure a performers rendition of a song by the way it is delivered, The feeling and depth is the yardstick od professionalism and Straalen gave that out in spades. It was a wonderful delivery and given that he was 12 at the time of this recording, I can easily forgive a small measure of nasal tone. In fact, considering his youthful voice, maybe a trace of nasal overtone add to the quality rather than detracts. In saying this, I recognise that this is only my opinion, but I keep this recording handy because I like listening to it as it raises my mood - it's a shame it was abridged though.
