watch out if u copy the equations from his board, he made the following mistakes: in the equation of THAUmax, the term under the root should be ((Sx-Sy)/2)^2 not ((Sx-Sy)^2)/2 , same mistake in the formula for priciple stesses S1 and S2, hope this helps :)

Sir, no doubt your way of teaching is far more better than my college teachers. But can you also plz describe what is meant by principal stress and max in plan shear stress
@MuizMalaysia Жыл бұрын
the way that i understand, max in plane shear stress is the value of maximum shear stress, and can be found at a certain angle, theta s, and principal stress is the is maximum and minimum value of sigma or normal stress and also can be found at a certain angle, theta p.
@firstlegend5105 Жыл бұрын
The principal stress is the stress that you find in your stress element due to shear stress being zero. Maximum in plane shear stress is when your stress element your shear stress is maximum and because it is maximum, you need to have an equal proportion of normal stress on both your x and y direction

23:10 Just to clarify for anyone who got confused like me, they should add up to 90 degrees if you take them both as positive (same as theta p should), not 45
@akezhanbolat7765 Жыл бұрын
nah, he is talking about difference between angles P and S, so it is like 14.87-(-30.12)=45

For the equation in the lower left (TauMax equation), I think the dividing 2 also should be squared.
@christopherlee6364 Жыл бұрын
should be like that for the Tmax and the formula to the right of it (min and max principal stresses)
@aybaws Жыл бұрын
@@christopherlee6364 I don't know. I took the exam, got an A, forgot all about it now.
@christopherlee6364 Жыл бұрын
@@aybaws it’s just what the equation should be. Probably just a typo but makes a huge difference if the 2 at the bottom is not squared too

7:00 now that cleared things for me😂, always confused me whats the sign of a shear stress. I know that shear in counterclockwise is pos and shesr in clockwise is neg, but that face and direction made all the more sense in determining the sign.

thanks for your effort , but i have a question , in fatigue problem when designing a shaft with gears you know torque changes at the same point of gear , can i take this as a torque fluctuation to get the Ta & Tm ( alternating & mean torque )?? or consider always torque is constant ???also when can i consider Mm ( mean or average bending moment)for a rotating shaft(so bending moment at same point changes from + to - with same magnitude ) is not equal to zero or is it (Mm ) always zero???
