Some of these guys nowadays especially the kids coming up to the NBA think that Basketball is all about me. I wanna be the guy who hits the game winner. I wanna be the guy who scores the most points in my whole team. The spurs aren't like that. They pride themselves in playing PROPER basketball. Which means playing it like a TEAM GAME. No one in that team is selfish. Parker can get a little bit selfish from time to time, but never in these situations. This is true Basketball. Who do the Spurs really have apart from an old Duncan, an old Manu and an aging Parker. Pop made this team so much better. Leonard has potential to be the MVP of the league. ilackedtheheart I mean, Chalmers, Wade and Bosh are still there as starters, Rashard might yet resign, and Haslem/Andersen are the same big bodies they had last time around. Battier retired, Allen might retire. For a team that literally had only Norris Cole on the books for next year, they managed to grab quite a few of them back, so props there. I definitely agree that it's a downgrade with James leaving, and that they'll make the playoffs, but because they play in the east. They have too many question marks, from which Danny Granger are they getting, to whether Bosh can be an efficient top dog, to how Wade's health holds up etc. Plus, am I the only one who finds it a bit disappointing that Wade started conditioning/losing weight and working towards top form AFTER James left? The guy's a perennial all-star, that's just admitting that he let James carry the team without giving it his best.

Exactly, the Spurs play the game like it's meant to be played it's fucking beautiful and the funny thing is in this closeout they had plays you rarely see from them (Kawhi Alley-oop and Ginobli dunk)
@dimalex810 жыл бұрын
They play a similar to european style of basketball, very tactical and smart, with continues movements, passing, variety of offensive plays for everyone etc. thats why guys like kawhi, mills and so on get the chance to shine. Its not like the average nba team"give the ball to the star player and get out of his way". Ofcourse when you face the usual nba style of defence its not so difficult to outsmart them(with emphasis in strategy rather talents) if you have the right unslelfish players who accept their roles to form a team. This is the reason why in all their wins, the spurs dominated.
@t4d0W10 жыл бұрын
its ok. I think the league needs some _smarts_ moving forward. Durant as great as he is is not a transcendental player. The only way to win is with a true team effort. Teams know this and have been trying to take concepts from Popp to apply to their young squad or even enhance ball movement to an existing team that would benefit from it. There aren't many scorers who can dominate by posting up anymore by being bigger and faster. Its easy to take that away than being in constant motion, passing the ball and being in a constant position to make shots count.
@mt88310 жыл бұрын
BludAardvark did this nigga just say "transcendental?" W.T.F? You're a dumbass. And what's with this "team effort" or "team ball" crap? So prior to '14 all the previous champions didn't play team ball? fuckin' idiot.

These 2014 Spurs are pretty much the best team of all time, in that they do so many things to perfection. -They pass at least as good as Magic's Lakers, and systematically pick teams apart in the half court. -They run and gun at least as good as Nash's Suns, PGs, SGs, SF and hell even PF can lead breaks for the Spurs. plus, who would've ever imagined Pop integrating transition 3's as a permanent offensive strategy and it working GOOD. -Their D is top tier, and they can REBOUND (finally!) -2/3 of the roster is stellar 3 point shooters! Parker, Ginobili, Diaw, Leonard, Green, Mills, Belinelli, Bonner, none of these guys you can give daylight past the arc (or anywhere for that matter). -all of this combined with the murderous post up play of Duncan and Diaw? you have to guard them one on one because there are minimum of 3 deadly shooters on the court at all time, and nobody in the league consistently can. The Spurs will pass, pick and roll, and get the mismatches they want and go right at it.

@1004-l2u10 жыл бұрын
Boun Pheng Manu was just as important in the spurs offense in game 5, Leonard just had more of a difficult job since he had to guard lebron. and Manu scored 6 straight points when he first entered in the first q when it was like 15-2
@ezzyfosheezy10 жыл бұрын
I love Manu, but Manu is a double bladed dagger, he helps and hinders the team at the same time. Re-watch Game 6 against OKC, you'll understand exactly what I mean. Mad respect for him though because he's one hell of a player, I just would pick Kawhi over him this series
@slactweak10 жыл бұрын
Boun Pheng No. Manu was the one who, single handedly, stopped the bleeding in game 5. Kawhi benefited from Manu's determination and Kawhi deserved the FMVP but it was Manu's spark, off the bench, that turned the game around. We needed Obiwan to have a break-out game to close the Heat out and boy, did he deliver.

Same, I think this team could beat the 2017 Warriors. They had great 3 point shooters. The pick and roll with Parker and Duncan was unstoppable. Ginobli and Kawhi could get to the rim at will, they had a favorable matchup like every offensive trip, this is easily the best Spurs team out of all their championship runs. Kawhi has one of the most underrated legacies of all time, at 22 he goes up against prime Lebron while being considered a “role player” and quite frankly showed him up, and got fmvp for it and sent Bron back to Cleveland then he gets a couple Dpoy trophies back to back after this finals, then gets sent to Toronto in which everyone considered it when it happened as a “your screwed” type of trade and has one of the best playoff runs ever and wins another ring and fmvp at 27

Best parts of this game: (5) Wade got his shit swatted back (5:48) (4) Bosh got posterized by Ginobli (4:39) (3) The Heat got DEMOLISHED (for the 3rd straight game). (2) The squad that played *team* ball won the game & series, to the satisfaction of real basketball fans everywhere. (1) The "LeBron will surpass Jordan" movement is officially dead. 2-3 Finals record, getting outscored by a *bench player* for the whole 2011 Finals (e.g. Jason Terry), and now a 22 year-old, non-AllStar Leonard wins Finals MVP against him? It's OVER, kids. MJ > LBJ. Deal with it. P.S. Whatever happened to "LeBron can guard ANY position"?... After Pop told Leonard to just go for it, Kawhi avg'd 23.6ppg on *68.4%* FG in the last 3 straight games... where was LBJ's "great" defense? LMAO!
@nycbrownman542810 жыл бұрын
I agree after I saw this. LBj is no where near Mjs level. Mj is 6-0 in finals and had two three-peats. That's clutch. Same goes for Kobe. Well Kobe had shaw but he did contribute and has never lost in the finals either. LBj is good but look at him in Cleveland. He already made his new big three. After this you can confirm LBj
@TheRealSykot1k10 жыл бұрын
NYC Brownman Excuse me, are you saying that Kobe never lost in the finals? He has 7 Finals appearances: 2000,2001,2002,2004,2008,2009,2010 and he has 5 rings, so he is 5-2. Kobe will be the only one comparable to the great Michael Jordan though, they are actually similar in alot of aspects.

***** Jordan's 1988 and 1989 seasons are ones that LeBron could never reach, even during today's soft era with rules changes to make scoring easier. So no, he's not better than Jordan.
@gmn54510 жыл бұрын
***** Refs give superstars across the board advantages. Ask LeFlop and D-Whistle. The former NBA Exec. VP of Basketball Operations Stu Jackson said this about the rules of LeBron's 2K era: "Our rules are *designed* to *allow* players to *penetrate* for *high percentage* shots. This has allowed for *more* high quality *perimeter shots* as well, because of how much *easier* it is to penetrate *today*." ("Stu Jackson Presents," May 3, 2007) ... And how is LeBron better all around? When did LeBron win a scoring title (35ppg 53.5% FG) and Defensive Player of the Year and MVP all in the same year (MJ's 88 season)? Did LeBron ever average 32ppg (53.8% FG), 8 rebs, 8 ast, 2.9 stl, like MJ did in '89? Nope. And MJ did that in the '80s, when physicality made the game far tougher.
