Just to clarify as there seems to be a little confusion on the RS pulling away fail. The bike was a race shift pattern gear box, which kindly, Fagan neglected to tell me - so, i was basically trying to pull away in 6th... on a 125... up a hill. Hence the confusion.

I can see why you don't like the RS. It was my first bike, and it's very fiddly to ride. But it has so much character I personally, like everyone else, loved it to bits. The way the power comes in at 7k, the sublime handling, the fat rear tyre and the way it has to warm up before you ride it. It's like being able to ride it is a reward for all the work you put into it. It's one of the greats, up there with the 916 and the BMW GS.

Lower tube fully into fuel as far as you can, put thumb over end of tube, lift tube end out (wiping fuel off) and place end in bucket (tube will be full of fuel..gasp!), lower bucket below tank level, remove thumb :-) Wierds me out seeing people sucking on tube full of fuel lolol.

BTW, you can siphon without sucking on the tube. Use the same principle of vacuum, just pinch the tube or put your thumb on the end of it. Push the hose in as far as you can (no pun intended), pinch the end, and then pull the tube out as fast as you can, without pulling the tube completely out of the gas tank, and release the pinched tube at the same time you stop pulling the tube out. Might need to try several times. But the momentum should eventually allow the gas to flow through the tube, just as if you were sucking the end of it to make the vacuum, to get the momentum of the gas in the tube going.

Comparing a 125 4 stroke with a 125 2 stroke it's obvious that the 2 strokes wins. It's like comparing a 125 cc with a 250cc. Modern 125 4 stroke engines can do 13-15 hp, while some 125 2 stroke are able to make 35 hp.

Next time if you wanna get some gas outta the jizz machine just use two hoses. Make one hose go completely into the tank, and another a bit higher. Then blow. (this only works because of the pressure in the tank, so you're going to need to put a rag or something so little to no air will escape) Forcing air through the short tube increases the pressure of the air above the gas in the tank, causing it to flow through the longer tube at the bottom of the tank and into the gas can.

ermistan its of course just my opinion, but its horrible to ride - always in the wrong gear, no power at all below the small power band, and ultimately - a pain. ***** but is it a fullpower rs125, with rave kit and all? that would explain the performance gap
@ettorefassina3569 жыл бұрын
ettore fassina sorry, hadn't seenthe whole video. the owner probably removed the block that covers half the exhaust port (which is the thing that keeps the power under the EU legal limit of 15 hp) without substituting it for a rave valve, which moves up and down with the revs, increasing the port size as you accelerate and leaving enough torque to set off, even if you are a big fella.
@Candesce9 жыл бұрын
ettore fassina The performance gap is explained by the fact that it's a two stroke. Two strokes just tend to produce more power per CC than four strokes do. Just like how a four cylinder bike tends to make more power than a two cylinder of the same size. The benefit of four strokes is smoother power and better emissions because they don't burn oil.
@ettorefassina3569 жыл бұрын
in europe all 125 to be a1 license compatible have a 15 hp limit, but the aprilia engine was developed for racing in the 90s before this regulation came in to force. What aprilia did to make them legal was a cheap fix, the substituted an exhaust port size regulator (which gave the engine good low and high rev torque) with a fixed block in the lower position. so if you want to souble the power in the cheapest way you just remove the block, which looks like what was done to the bike to the video. The proper way would be to buy a rave valve kit from aprilia which brings it to it's best overall performance, and would allow ***** to manage setting off without stalling.
@Fasnfip9 жыл бұрын
Baron. I'd say you don't get the thing in two-strokers. They aren't easy to ride, they aren't good handling, but damn do they sound good, when they are larger than 200cc or have more than one cylinder running and DAMN does that raw power feel good.

I am almost 29 years old (i can ride any bike legally) and i've decided firmly that my first bike will be an RS 125 (for one season probably, then R6). I have based my decision on many factors. The most important are: *1*. I want to experience the best of road sport two stroke and i want to do it now because if i'd get a supersport first, i wouldn't see myself buying RS 125 in the future (downgrade? no thanks). *2*. I want to start small because "the less bike, the more fun" and it has to be a sporty bike (sporty seating position, sporty brakes, etc) but all the road sport 4 stroke 125s are less sporty and a lot less powerful than RS 125. Four stroke 250cc and above bikes are more heavy (i want it to be light). *3*. I love its looks. *4*. I view my riding experience (as well as driving experience) as a set of skills and something more, which has to constantly grow, evolve. With this thinking, i view RS 125 as an ideal pre-experience before my dream bike - R6. Although, lithuania is not quite a riding country but who knows maybe i won't live here the next year. I realize that the downsides are considerably more expensive average maintenance and running costs, possibility of engine seizure (but i am going to get it in a relatively good condition). Low power on low revs isn't an issue. What else... i think i've covered pretty much everything. Oh yes, I've ridden it a bit, last season. So what's your insight on all of that? I'm planing to get it the next week. Cheers man.

Also, what did you mean by bad handling?

Žilvinas Deveika if your legally allowed, then i would buy the KTM RC390. Its the same as the 125 but 44 bhp instead of 14. Personally i'd learn to simply 'ride' better on the roads which means as much focus on whats happening around you as possible - not concentrating on what issues are happening under you. People say the RS is faster and indeed it is WAY faster - than other 125's. The 390 would outshine it in every way apart from learning how to rebuild engines ;) Good luck :)

Thanks for your replies. Already got RS 125 two stroke and enjoying it a lot. It had a very low mileage, just 3200 kilometers. First rule of getting your first bike - start small. Start 50cc if you can. Second rule - after familiarizing yourself with all the competing bikes at your target power, get the one you like the most (looks mostly). After RS 125 i'll probably go with R6. I'm looking at ZXR 250 too, it's an awesome bike from golden era of motoring.

It's true. Though most Americans like big bikes there is a small displacement cult here.
@cisium11845 жыл бұрын
@@petermullaney443 You can ride them balls out. You have to run through all the gears and hit them right. You are winding them out constantly. Even the last drop of power is usable on the street. That is the fun.

Quick Question ***** where in the UK is the road in which you was riding in between mountains? Really like that scenery didn't know there was anything like it in the UK at all

You can't call people 2 stroke wankers , the fact you Rev a 2 stroke is so you don't oil up the plug! The KTM is rubbish compared to the Aprilia , seem's bad that you can't ride a 2 stroke and you're a so called "biker" ..

Tips for aprilia rs 125. For have less of that vibrating/wibing/jumpy/shaky rpm before it hits the powerband. It's at about 7500-8000rpm. If you hit that rpm at a certain speed in a downhill. The hole thing will just jerk back at forth like you're on a bull. Even worse with a passanger. Solveing this problem is adjust the tiny disk that is on the carb needle jet up. I guess it's all the way down or on the second last one down. 4 points to adjust "dellerto". The 4th point down is for max petrol. It would be better to place it on the second or third.

need to siphon? Use a fish tank water hose with the section that you squeeze. If you have one spare lying around that is.

I'm just back from a ride with a boy on one of them little Aprilia's. Its a proper quick little bike lol And the RC390 is a great little bike, I got to ride one a months or 2 back and loved it. If I had the cash sitting around, I'd probably get one :) But you should totally do a video on the RC390

Aye aye loon, cracking vids. Just passed the CBT and am on a ybr 125. Looking for an upgrade soon. Something like ninja 300, what do you recommend? Or is it better to jump onto a 600ish. Oh and what sort of camera have you got? Video quality is superb. Got to catch all these knobs up in aberdeen cutting me up lol.

Question for you guys who ride small bikes very often - do the wheels need balancing? I recently changed the front for a 200cc road bike and the mechanic laughed when I asked if he balanced the wheel. He claims that small bikes do not need the wheels balanced.

The reason for blipping the throttle is is to keep the engine lubricated not to stop it from stalling.
@kribar969 жыл бұрын
And the problem with the first gear, the clutch work. If im right, you can't give it too much throttle on low rpm. You got a max amount of throttle on low rpm. Too much at low rpm and it will drown in gas. Something to learn on tuned 2strokes.
@Patryk7379 жыл бұрын
My friend's RS125 ended up needing an engine rebuild... 35 horse power on 125 engine, there is no way that those bikes are for roads. They broke very often.

When sucking fuel like that you gotta make sure your exit end of pipe is lower than your entry end and will work on header pressure

Stick the hose all the way in. Use your thumb to cover the one end. Pull the hose out and make sure one end stays fully submerged. Uncover the other end below the level of the fuel tap. Boom! No need to suck on gas anymore.

KTM styling is sweet imo, but damn, my starter is a CBR500R, and i feel the need for more, cant image how underpowered a 125 would feel... maybe if you weigh 100lbs or less?? great vid though, looked like a blast, that indoor go kart track run was SWEET!!

If you're back out this way (Bristol, that is) you'll have to head to Abergavenny via the Usk Road. Amazing... and hardly any traffic. Did I spot the speedo on the KTM barely working? Seemed to show '0' a lot.

It's funny how the guy that commented on Baron not being able to ride the 125, yet Baron owns a full blown track bike that he uses on the track. On top of that he even got the chance to test out the Pani 1299 at Ducati.

I imagine if the KTM had as much work done to it as the aprilia it would keep up just fine, it looked fairly stock?
