Gotta say, always prefer the picking method, but the inner jerk in me seems to really enjoy seeing the destructive methods also :-) Just something about a quick, forceful defeat of a product like that, speaks volumes to everyone about its quality, not just us pickers. Great demonstration Bill!

Love when you said the name and say it's not light ( sorry hard to write) You should say the name goes with the quality, 30$ and its junk, that's why I never buy lock on internet, looks good but they cut alot on quality, even the chain, soon you start with the saw I knew it was cheap, thanks for the video, maybe it could help somebody, I think the sleeve for the chain cost more than the lock and chain, remind me the protection sleeve for the climbing rope so it doesn't cut arround a tree or at the top for the rocks :)

I’d have liked to see you try to pick this with a tension wrench plus a tumbler style rake. I bet you could rake this one open without having so much as an actual dimple rake.

It sparks like hardenable steel though, but the heat treat was probably way off.

Wouldn't be surprised if you could slide hammer the core out. It might've been worth it if the chain wasn't made out of brie, but of course it's too good to be true.

The yellow finish is chromate conversion of zinc galvanized metal. This finish is NOT an indication of heat treatment or quality of the steel. Anything that you can plate or galvanize zinc onto can get this finish.

I wonder if that one exploit could be fixed by just extending the locking plate, to go around the bit you put in. In that case even if you break the pin out, you wont be able to take the lock out without unlocking it first

BlackDolphin90 I thought a Sargent & Greenleaf bunker lock, plus some trucker road chain's would stop most of them, but it might be a little bit heavy & overkill 😂
@BD90..6 жыл бұрын
William Mancel u would say that would stop them all except the guy with a grinder.

No such thing. Every single bike lock is only good for keeping bike safe from opportunity theft. If someone really wants your bike, they will find a way to open or break the lock. But that is also true for houses and cars... So I use only a simple cheapo cable lock on my $500 bike.

Hi new subscriber here. Could you recommend a good lock I can buy that don't cost a crazy amount? I'm in the landscaping business. Most of the locks I use you have picked with ease. I know not many are fool proof but what would you recommend that's a little better than average?
@WineScrounger6 жыл бұрын
Jim B most thieves won’t pick locks. People clever enough to do that generally have proper jobs. For padlocks and chains go for size, weight and hardness. A disc detainer core adds another layer of security especially if it tensions at the deep end. Abus Granit padlocks come highly recommended in that respect although they aren’t cheap.
@tilobidaLP6 жыл бұрын
A good rule of thumb is that your lock should cost atleast ten percent of the price of your bike.

Do you live in the US? You can go to most hardware stores and buy American-brand locks, which feature serrated pins and generally decent construction. I recommend looking elsewhere (Amazon? eBay?) for a lock from a company like Abus, and look for ones that have a shielded shackle. This will help mitigate a more realistic threat: people cutting the shackle to get in. Oh and don't get combo locks, at least not ones with a dial.

28$ is way too much for that. The blackburn attica is a much better option for that price range. At least the chain. The lock is probably better too. For 3 times the price you can get five times the security in the kryptonite 1415 lock and chain.
@jeremiahkennedy16836 жыл бұрын
Might as well not even screw with the lock, just wrap the chain around and hide the ends or put a u bolt thru it. If they are gonna steal your bike there gonna do it regardless of how much you spend on a lock. Great review Bill p.s. your gonna need a bigger hammer

I know this is old... but just have to say; That chain was pure stupidity! The steel was easily heat treatable (the sparkling in the grinder sparks is carbon burning out of the hot flakes of steel). They just cut the corner off of actually doing the heat treatment.

Legit this lock is fine for normal bikes. If you’re seriously concerned with criminals bringing an arsenal of tools to steal your bike then i guess you’re the minority, because nobody is gonna steal a normal bike that is secured with a lock properly.
