My older brother bought a brand new 1967 SS CHEVELLE 396 back in the day not long before he was sent to viet nam. At only 15 years old He entrusted me to take care of it and start it every week. It was emerald green with a black vinyl top, four speed with a factory option brake lock on the far left side under the dash. At 66 years old now I still remember every detail about that car. As a kid my brother would wake me up very early in the morning to go fishing with him, on the way to the lake while driving through the forest preserves he would let me shift through the gears as he drove it. Somethings you never forget!

Wow, just wow. The muscle car craze over the decades has gone through several phases, starting with the interest in them beginning anew in the early 80's after the decade of the 70's with it' s gas line shortages and high insurance premiums killed off the first generation of the breed. Then, into the 90's and 2000's came another surge in muscle car mania, led by the restoration folks who paid close attention to the small details of their construction & the emphasis on Day 1 appearances. And yet through all those decades, this here SS396 sat, unused and unmolested. I don't understand how it's possible, but, there it is! An amazing find, Lou. Many thanks for sharing it with us!

Remarkable survivor car there. Bill is really a lucky man to find such a gem. It's good to see that he gets to drive this beauty periodically and I hope he and his Chevelle SS can make many fond memories together. On a side note, I have an uncle who owned a 65 Chevellle (not an SS though) back in the late 60's and early 70's. He worked for Cadillac in Queens, NY and had a lot of access to mechanics and parts. His Chevelle had a 283 engine with the markings noted on the front fenders. From what I recall, he had the engine pulled and dropped in either a 396 or 454 to replace the 283. He would tell us that when he would pull up next to a muscle car at a stoplight, no one would give him a second look due to the markings on the car. However, when the light turned green, the other vehicles would be still in place inhaling his exhaust. I was a kid at that time, so my specifics may be off. That said, I keep in touch with him and he still maintains a small warehouse of GM parts in his basement. He and his friends use that inventory to restore cars till this day. Lou, I will send him this link and thanks once again for seeking out these vehicles and their owners and making them available to your viewers.

Hey Lou, met a guy and his wife at a car show where I live in September, and he had a 66 with the exact same color scheme The car was 100% original with a 283 and 39k miles and had never been messed with while still retaining its original alternator, fuel pump, starter, and pretty much everything else. The car hadn't been used in decades, but the owners took care of it and kept it parked in the barn away from the elements making it a true barn find. Had the original paint and still looked decent with a Lazer straight body. I asked him where he found this gem and he said he bought it WAY up in west Virginia, but wasn't specific, but he said you wouldn't believe where I had to go to to get this car, so more than likely it was up a holler somewhere, and it was the original owners, so they're still out there if you can find them. Of course with the resurgence of the classic car market over the past decade the pickings are a lot slimmer and as you know Lou, the prices, especially for chevelles, has went up 150% during the last 10 years, so if you are lucky enough to find one you'll most likely pay a hefty price. The words out, and even those who aren't into classic car but happen to own one know the value has went up tremendously. Thanks for all your hard work chasing down these classics Lou. It's a big job but somebody's gotta do it! 😃👍

Neat Chevelle, Lou ! By far the cleanest one out there. ! The big block looks great - super clean. Don't remember seeing this color on those - must not have been too popular. Looks like code MM on the tag. The white walls look goofy, I know they are original, but the red striped tires would look much better (imo). I'll bet that Chevy didn't come cheap.!! Thanks to the owner for keeping it stock & as much original as possible. Thanks Lou, for a great feature. !

So many cars I'm sure you saw the black 68 Caprice what a body and paint job. Sorry I couldn't find you it was very crowded, maybe next year I will be attending if possible.

When my uncle ordered his gto he checked manual transmission, and when it arrived it was a 3 speed. Apparently if you didn’t specify, it was assumed you wanted a 3 speed. Needless to say he wasn’t very happy. Another great video Lou 👍

That is a Beautiful car and love it ....just don't make anything like this anymore....Back in 1979 I bought a 1968 SS Chevelle same color with black leather top ...factory 396 ,the narrow wheels with the SS 396 factory hub caps from a lady in Dillon SC for 350.00.... I gave it to my sister to drive ...I got sent overseas and while gone during that time my sister sold the car for 900.00 bucks ...needless to say I was pissed for a long time ....but got over it , my sister more important then the car ....but we talk about it through the years ,she could kick her own butt now ...I tell her I'll never let her keep my old muscle cars any more ... A very True story yall ...I shed a tear each time I think about ....Damn....
