Thanks for sharing your methods & results. I just did mostly the same last weekend on my ‘04 Boxster S. Same plenum & throttle body. Same plumbing except I kept the original maf & fit a k&n cone filter. I still just need to fabricate an air box to isolate cold air from engine air. I will probably make the air box from aluminum sheet or fiberglass. I ran it yesterday for the first time about 30 miles. Pulls great. Will get Dyno results soon. But I’m waiting on a tune till after a new exhaust. Lots of brute force needed in this job. Especially those plenum rubber boots & airbox removal.

I have a 2002 boxster s with Evolution air inake, Fabspeed race headers, 200 cell cats, Fabspeed Maxflo exhaust. the car Dynos at 306 bhp at the flywheel. over the 252 standard. You need to change your restrictive headers and cats. And if you like the mufler too. No point working on intake system without working on the exhaust side. Your putting air in but your not letting it out. Your restrictive exhaust is kiliing your efforts. Watch the 986 Fabspeed You tube video. Then you will understand. Great video. I am amazed at how many people make this mistake. Please fit race headers and big cats.

Thanks for your comments Mike! If you peruse my later videos, you will notice that I have done exactly what you are suggesting, including the tune. Unfortunately I never got around to getting it dynoed before I sold it.

Would it benefit from a bespoke map rather than the generic anniversary map? It would probably flatten out your torque curve a bit more as well

I was trying to keep this mod under $1000 CAD ($750 USD). Were I to do it again, I could have save quite a bit because of the errors I made. A custom tune would almost certainly have been beneficial but is generally pricier, although I must say, getting my AE tune done at the Porsche dealer was not really a money saver!.

Hi there, can you provide me with the part number for the plenum and the 74m throttle body? Thank you in advance
@NewArt13 жыл бұрын
I'm afraid that this information has disappeared from my memory. I probably used 996 parts although you might check the 987 ones for size. Sorry.

Thanks. I've linked several of the videos now.

Did you ever get the updated dyno results from the other place?
@NewArt15 жыл бұрын
No. Too many things have happened since that video. A broken rod bolt took out that engine and I had to replace it (see some of my other videos). This had nothing to do with my mods but more to do with constant red-lining at the track. I am now running that same mod plus headers, high flow cats, and a tune to tie all this together.

Do you think this is possible on the tiptronic 986? Im sure it is but i wanna be sure before i start buying parts lol

The transmission shouldn’t change anything. Check out the various suggestions and changes mentioned in my threads on the 986 forum to avoid some of the problems that I ran into.

This can most certainly be done on a 986 with a Tiptronic. I've done this mod to me 03 986 S with a Tiptronic. I absolutely love this mod. When Art says he can feel the extra power, he isn't kidding. I've done several mods to my car, this was the first one and I felt more power out of this mod then any so far. Since the air intake mod I have done headers, secondary cat delete and a Borla muffler. I love driving this car. One thing to note with a Tiptronic, there is a venturi tube that has to be plumbed into the new intake tube. I used metal tubing like Art did, marked the spot on the tubing where the venturi tube needs to go, bought metal fitting the same diameter as the factory fitting and took the pieces to a welder and had him weld in the fitting. The guy did a phenomenal welding it on, the weld looks so perfect. Think I paid him $30 to do the job.

How would you compare the improvement made by adding the headers to the improvement achieved by adding the enlarged air intake and plenum?
