The Venture X is simple, if someone needs to sit down with a spreadsheet to calculate the credits on the Platinum to help justify the $695, they probably shouldn’t get the Platinum.

@@AngieRTaylor you are correct that the annual fee on the Venture X is $395, I was referring to the fact that the VX allows 4 free authorized users, the Platinum is $695 for the primary user and each authorized user is $195. I have my kids, wife and mom as authorized users on my VX so they all have priority pass etc. all for $395. Doing the same with the platinum and having four authorized users would be $695 for the main card and $195 for each of the four authorized users for a total of $1,475. The VX has two credits $300 through their portal and 10,000 points which is roughly $100 and more than offsets the fee of $395. At $695 the platinum has monthly, semi annual and annual credits that you have to track to offset the $695 and there is almost no way it would offset $1,475. Amex sets up the credits that require you to spend in a way that may not be natural, for example they have Uber / Uber eats credit on the Platinum but all of the food even with pick up is marked up on Uber eats.

I got the VX because of the following: -annual fee -$0 AU Fee (already made my parents as Authorized Users a month ago) -Airport Lounge Access (haven't used yet) -Familir with Cap1 Travel Portal (easier on laptop/PC/MacBook than on smartphone) -Cheaper & simple than the competition.

Capital One might have mastered the two card setup with VX and Savor1. But regardless, if you only have 1 travel card, the VX is the pinnacle. Lucky to have used it to justify trips to Bora Bora, France, and Spain.

Excellent data points, I just product changed my Savor One to a Venture 2x card and product changed my Venture One to a Savor One card. Excited to grab 2x miles on everything and still enjoy the 3% cash back on select categories. I’m bummed they removed C1 lounge access on the Venture card but 2x miles is still solid!

The problem with this card is to get good multipliers on flights and the travel credit, one has to use the portal. Booking direct with the airline is always better if there is an issue with the flight. The Amex Platinum gives 5x on all flights and the Chase Sapphire Reserve 3x on all flights. And there are a lot more Centurion Lounges than Cap One lounges.

Congrats on your approval! To clarify, you logged in, selected your Venture X card, clicked on the View Rewards button, and did not see the Benefits option on the menu of the page that followed? Only 'Home, Earn Activity, and Redemptions?'

I have the capital one duo and I think it’s perfect for me. Do you think that the venture x will get a refresh soon. I wouldn’t mind a $495 annual fee as long as the card adds better airline/ hotel partners ( domestically )and allowing the $300 travel credit to be more flexible like the CSR, And some new credits.

Only 1 credit per card account. If your P2 wants the benefit, they'd have to get their own card. Authorized Users don't get their own TSA Pre / GE credit.

Well done video! For tsa pre-check, I assume it doesn't matter which provider you use? It looks like you have to choose between a third party company. I was thinking of using the vx credit to get my wife pre-check as I already have global entry. I also assume it doesn't matter to C1 whose name is listed, as they just see and credit the charge itself right?

It _should not_ matter which vendor you use (Idea, Telos, CLEAR), but it all comes down to the Merchant Category Code of the transaction and it being recognized by the card network. It also shouldn't matter which name is on the application vs. on the card when paying online. An exception would be if you pay in person and a CBP officer prevents it.

I haven't. No plans to do so as I'm not a fan of (a) membership requirements, (b) unavailability to a lot of people based on location, and (c) limited travel rewards options. That said, I've seen many strong cash back offerings from CU cards, esp. with no / low annual fees.
