I remember when I was a kid my three brothers and I would wake up at 7am every Saturday morning. Each of us would have a bowl cereal watching our favorite cartoons while our parents still in bed. Things were simple and great back in the 70's.

I was 6 years old and in the first grade when "Scooby Doo" premiered in 1969 on CBS Saturday morning cartoon lineup. I think this show has hardly been forgotten since it's been on the air in one form or another (including feature length movies) for almost 55 years. I still think the original version from 1969-71was the BEST! Aso liked "Josey & the Pussycats" although we were not allowed to say that "P-Word" as kids...lol

The success of the Jackson 5 cartoon led to another cartoon series that starred their biggest rivals The Osmonds. That one began in 1972 and only lasted for 17 episodes but I still liked it better because of the songs. Unlike the Jacksons, the Osmonds used their own voices in the series which helped its popularity. Another cartoon series that I loved back then which remained popular throughout the 1970s was the Archies: Archie, Jughead, Reggie, Betty, and Veronica. Their show began in 1968, and exploded in popularity after introducing their biggest hit "Sugar Sugar". The show also introduced new characters that had their own spinoff series that were also successful: "The Groovie Goolies" and "Sabrina: The Teenage Witch".

I was born in 71. My Mom still talks about how I loved The Banana Splits. 😃 Dad was still in the Air Force, so I was probably still about one (?!?!) when I started watching them? She says I pronounced it "Nana Flits." I guess I was three or four when it went off the air. To this day I still remember the theme song. Johnny Quest was a segment on the show, then I think a show itself for a couple years in the mid seventies? The Splits themselves were basically The Monkeys for preschoolers (although even at 3 I thought the elephant looked like John Lennon). Anyway, for as weird as the 70s were, it was a much more fun, safe, and sane era to be a kid than now. Now I have to go get that theme song out of my head... 🎶🎵 Tra la lahhh, La la la lahhhh.. One banana, two banana, three banana, four... 🎶🎵😃

@stevedallas4942 I just don't remember watching The Banana Splits. I'm not sure if it wasn't airing where I lived or if my brother and I were already outside playing when it came on or what. The 70s were a great time to be a kid, no helicopter parents (or at least mine weren't) could run all over the neighborhood as long as my Mom knew roughly where we were so she could find us to call us home for dinner. Wore an old towel as a cape to pretend to be Captain Marvel after watching "Shazam!" Great memories 😄

Wacky Racers, Bullwinkle and Rocky, and George of the Jungle (with Tom Slick along with Super Chicken and his side kick "You knew the job was dangerous when you took it" Fred.) Extra points to anyone who can name the pet mice Michael Jackson kept in his pocket (hint- one was named Ray).

Most of these were on every saturday at my house, except the banana splits and speedbuggy. The only time I ever remember speed buggy was whenever he teamed up with scooby doo. My absolute favorite line from any cartoon ever was an episode of the Superfriends where the Legion of Doom took over the Superfriends headquarters. They started trashing the place, Bizarro is sitting in a chair and says "I interface with computer" and smashes his face into the computer screen. Damn funny!
