We went with a different design on our go kart. I put a honda gx160 modded for some ridiculous revs and made the go kart about 2 inches off the ground. We also stances it out super wide and put the seat as low to the ground as possible to drop the center of gravity. It goes about 40mph and it can't flip. We've tried. We literally took it on pavement at full speed and just cranked it as hard as we could one way and it wouldn't even lift on 2 wheels. It's so much fun because you can drift on literally anything and take corners at like Mach 1. The only problem with our design is that if there's any rocks or potholes, then the belly pan slams them really hard. Yours seems a lot more practical for cruising around tho, and a lot easier on the body too lol. Imagine what a design like ours could do with a 13 hp motor, some more speed, and slightly better engineering it would be absolutely insane! The gx160 scares the balls off of me as is

I took a Murray 1wd kart and converted it to a live axle and it's got 14.5 inch atv tires with 5 inches of ground clearance, maybe more and it got to 42.5 with 1-5.4 gearing, it has a stock 212cc engine

the centrifugal clutch would work fine you just have to many bullshit Jack shafts
@ymxb625310 жыл бұрын
The clutch is slipping because of 2 things. A) centrifugal clutches are for under 10 hp and B) a centrifugal clutch should be used with wheels 14 inches or lower. I hope that helped!

When you're charging down those hills wide open with no brakes, what were you going to do if someone pulling out of their driveway either didn't see you or didn't look? In those residential neighborhoods you would be surprised how many people back out of the driveways without even looking. One afternoon I heard the squealing of brakes and honking of horns, my next door neighbor, a mother on her way to pick up her kids after school, backed out in front of a big yellow SCHOOL BUS! She dang near hit it.

It's not that it's got too much power. The Hilliard clutches are factory set to engage at 2600 rpms. If you read the packaging you would know that.
@cjrazzle8 жыл бұрын
You should have plenty of torque to pull that cart. In my opinion you have far too much going on with the jackshafts and all. As Patrick Gillbanks stated, I would use a belt converter which raises the ratio as the engine revs. Don't go by the sprocket diameter and instead calculate the ratio by number of teeth on the drive sprocket relevant to the teeth on the driven sprocket. As far as it wanting to tip, you have a fairly high center of gravity considering the track to wheelbase ratio. Widening your front track width just a bit will surely improve your cornering. Pretty cool build tho. I like seeing folks using their imagination and skill like you have.

Nice work... You really should lose that centrifugal clutch and fit it with a 40 series TC though. I built a 16hp kart with 18" tires, it accelerates hard and hills don't hardly slow it down. It hauls my 260lb's at an honest (GPS) 52 mph with it's current gearing set up.

80% sure those clutches are for 2 - 8 HP. You could just use 2 of them in parallel and handle 3 more HP than you have. Just lengthen the primary shaft to make room for it. And lengthen the secondary and put on a second sprocket.

Clutch should not be on the jack shaft. Need it on the crankshaft directly or at least on the input side of the jack shaft.
@ashleymcdaniel13017 жыл бұрын
that clutch has to be mounted to the shaft of the engine or your not getting enough rpm when revving the engine. the bigger the motor the more it ahould grab. its impossible to put to much power to a centrifugal clutch. higher the rpm better it will grab?
