Hi, nice video. She is from münchen, the third largest city in Germany with 1.5 million people. So she does compare city to city, and not city to country. Yes, crime and trash are more present in citys, but she did compare it directly to her big homecity

You guys are speaking about how big the US is and therefore you need "Stuff" to preserve your food. You are aware that we also trade within the EU, which is way bigger than just Germany and we still don't put shit in our food? This "Yeah, but we are the US, that's why we do stuff differently" is just pure ignorance

Yes we trade worldwide and it seems that there is no need for this preservatives. Apples from New Zealand for example or where do bananas come from? Still no additives.

As I enjoyed watching your reaction to this video, I felt there is a strong fatalistic attitude regarding several topics like "you can't change this" or "it is what it is". I would not expected this from a country which prouds itself as a country of going forward, optimism and innovation.

I lived in cities here in the Netherlands, in Eindhoven, specifically in Woensel which is the “bad neighbourhood” and I regularly walked home alone from the city centre in the middle of the night. A 25 minute walk by myself at 2 a.m.: never once did I feel unsafe or considered not walking by myself at night. I know I wouldn’t do it in certain cities in certain countries, but here in the Netherlands I couldn’t imagine any city where i wouldn’t go out by myself at night.

In Germany we have pasteurized milk as well, and with good cooling systems we can get fresh vegetables from spain to northern germany or even sweden fairly well. granted the whole of Europe still is tiny bit smaller then the US but i heard that at least 70% of addatives used in the U.S. are banned in the EU for health concerns

"The "USA" is so big so we need to preserve things to transport etc.." argument doesnt hold up Daniel. The US isnt that much larger than Europe. Do you think the "small" countries you refer to where everything is available fresh are self reliant? 😂 that is not how this works. Europe, like the US is for the most part a single market where things are produced at the the location where it is cheapest or where they have the knowhow. For non food items production can actually shift more easily as the means of production ( labour, knowledge, money) can. Soil, weather and foodculture/history/knowledge is harder to move around and often not even accepted. So you got this one wrong, we transport hundreds of thousands of tonnes of food per day. Easily. 😂. For lunch today the tomatoes came from the netherlands, the mozerella from Italy, the salad from Spain, the patatoes from Egypt and the eggs and meat i sourced at a local farm. That is the reality of things.

drinking in public has nothing to do with DUI - what are you talking about? DUI is illegal as well over here in Europe.

I think you didn't understand the point he was making. He also said that the prohibition has a lasting effect on this. But the main point is that in America you need a car to live. And as they mentioned, there are areas where you can go on more easily without a car, drinking in public has been allowed. So it is not one thing, culture is complex, and appointing differences to one aspect most often leads to a wrong picture. And I bet there are other aspects that contribute to this specific thing.

33:37 That can`t be the reason for it. In Germany and the whole EU we have the same system. All transfers over the limit of 10k are checked and reported. Sometimes I think, a lot of US-Americans are ignorant idiots.. You can save so much resources if you have a functioning deposit system. Another point is ventilation and air conditioning. An incredible amount of electricity is used here. And mosquitoes, beetles etc. can't be the reason either. America is so much ahead of Germany when it comes to fly screens. And No, we haven`t any ceiling fans. Our houses are built with bricks and most of them have an insulation. When we need fresh air, we open the windows..😂

What we Germans do in summer is air out the entire house in the morning, meaning all the windows and doors are open completely for like 5-10 minutes. Then, depending on the temperature outside and how much sun exposure there is on your flat, we shut all the windows and also close the shutters to prevent the sun from coming in. Which also keeps the heat out. In Germany and most of Europe, those shutters can block out every little ray of sunshine and you can turn your room 100% dark. Also, our windows are better insulated, as they have 2 or even 3 layers of glass. In the late afternoon/ evening, when it's colder outside, we air out the house again. To let fresh air in. That's especially effective if, after some long hot days, there's some heavy rain kicking in.

Here in the Netherlands I never have seen a ceiling fan in a house, or in an office for that matter. Can't remember those in other European countries either, not even in the Mediterranean. Maybe in factories ceiling fans can be a thing, but I only really know ceiling fans from American tv 🙂

I'm a native of Bangkok, the capital of Thailand which is one of the largest cities in Asia (12 milions as of 2021). I also lived in the urban area of USA for about a year. (As an exchange student to Milwaukee 20 years ago). I studied master's degree in the UK. So, I've been back and forth to UK's largest cities like London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Cardiff, etc.for the entirety of the 2-year period. And lastly, I've been working in Tokyo, the leargest city in the world for the last 2 years. From all of my aforementioned personal experiences, I can say with certainty that the feeling if not being safe is "the city thing." as you've claimed only applied to the US. I never felt like my life was at risk what so ever in any of the big cities I mentioned but I was always on edge everytime I go to Chicago or Detroit.

Definitely the samefor me. Even after a bunch of terror attacks in the late 2010s, I never felt unsafe during the day or at night in the big cities in Europe. The only time I ever felt unsafe was waiting at a train stop in a secluded area, but even then there were cameras and SOS buttons I could press if I felt threatened.

The notice period in Germany is created much more for the employee than for the employer. Anyone who wants to quit their job because, for example, If you have found a new one, in most cases this can also be done without notice. However, in small companies not everyone, or rather no one, is easily replaceable as you claimed. That's why it's important to give them time to find someone new. If that is the case, the person who wants to cancel will be able to leave. But it's simply fair for both sides, nobody is fired for fun because they can be replaced and, conversely, everyone has to give their employer the time to find someone new if this is necessary.

1. I don't buy the argument that the fixed shower head is cheaper - extra pipes, a hole to bore into the wall/tiles, etc. The hose-based shower is simply two screws to hold the mounting. The hose connects to the faucet - done. And the convenience of the hose shower is almost priceless. 2. Dooks, if you have friends and relatives outside of the US, then using the call function on Whatsapp may be more economical for them. If you're in the US and you have a decent call plan, then, yeah, just call. 3. Recycling - money motivates. 4. Bread and Dairy - you guys almost get the point. 99 % (+/- a percent) of the milk in Germany is pasteurized. You can buy raw milk in Germany, but it is highly controlled. Most, not all, of the 'normal' milk is homogenized (there are various studies suggesting that the homogenization of the milk fat allows it to enter the blood stream.) And US bread - don't get me started. A lot of the standard US breads are on par with Twinkies in terms of shelf life - is that necessary? Grains for bread in Germany come from many areas in Europe. The grains are shipped stable and baked into bread more or less locally - fresh and tasty. Sorry, watching you guys is just so banal.

1:30:00 3-month notice is for employers and employees. We have no "at will" work culture. You can fire people on the spot only with a good cause (e.g. theft, embezzlement, SA, insulting a superior, violence, and probably some more). In all other cases, you have to give a 3-month notice. Medium and big companies have to get approval from the workers' council. But our unions work differently.

Washing machines/top loaders: I'm from Germany and my first washing machine was a toploader. When I saw the picture of an American toploading washing machine in Felicia's video, I was shocked. This is what a German toploader looks like: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGLSfYyBeLt5qdU (you only have to watch 1 minute to notice the difference). The German top loaders don't have a spiral in the middle either, they work exactly like a front loader and the laundry gets just as clean.

49:38 I disagree on this point. The prohibition was but a symptom. In my humble European opinion the core of the general rejection of and restrictions against alcohol in the US lies much further in the past. So does a tendency to Christian extremism and moral values closely related to it in general. Who were most of the first settlers from Britain, who seeked a new home in New England in the early 1600s? They were Puritans, who had been expelled from their homeland for religious reasons. And Puritans, as we know, are not necessarily known for a pleasure-loving and excessive lifestyle. The opposite is the case. Through the centuries a lot of new confessions emerged on the territory that once would become the founding states of the US and most of them were descendants of Puritanism. Also while Europe underwent the Age of Enlightenment in the 18th century, this philosophical movement never fully made it to the British colonies / United States of American. So I believe that these things are a major reason for how differently Americans and Europeans think about topics like alcohol, prostitution, religiosity, morality in general and a lot of other stuff.

Do I understand that right (@ 30:40), that you "don't give a sh.." on climate change, because you can't do anything about it? "You don't know enough, to form an opinion about it..." Then inform yourselves and build an opinion, for god*s sake. Climate change is not an opinion, it's a fact. "We don't have the time to research a lot of that stuff..." You have the time to record a reaction video of about 1:30 hours. Take that time (once a week) to research about matters of conflict, like the climate change, to work out the facts and try to reflect on what you could do in your private life to make a change. You can't just let go and hope, that your government will take the right course of action. They won't. After China the U.S. causes the biggest amount of pollution worldwide. A dishonorable second place. With the attitude "I can't change anything anyway.", nothing will change and this planet will take revenge on us humans. This isn't science fiction, it's fact. Each of us, in every country, has a contribution to make. We will have to massively change our habits in order to keep this planet clean and livable. We have to say no to fossil fuels. On land, on water or in the air. Get creative. Get active. Both of you are much younger than me, so it might be in your best interest to pay more attention to this topic. Break away from old habits that only harm this planet. It's the only one we have. There is no Earth 2.0. Maybe we need to learn to travel slower in the future. Maybe we have to "limit" ourselves to regional foods again. Example: I love kiwis, but if they have to be imported from New Zealand or China, I won't buy them. More examples from my life: - The lights in my house are smart LEDs, often controlled by motion detectors. If so, they switch off after a minute. - I make sure to only use power sources when I really need them. (No "Standby"-modes) - I only use my car when it is really necessary. I can do many things by bike or by simply walking. Keeps you healthy, by the way. - I only use online shipping when there is really no other option. So please, don't tell, you ain't got the time, you ain't got the knowledge, you ain't got the resources, you ain't got the possibilities. You just have to look outside your own box and jump over your own shadow.

groceries that are basic food is cheaper in germany , like whole grain bread, egg, whole milk, jam, cheese, noodles, rice etc because they are subsidized by tax money, they fund the farmers not to go broke and have high quality product, its a policy in the welfare "socialistic" europe and germany and it has to have the organic standard. its law of european union member countries, european continent has seen some cruel hunger periods, wars because of hunger, people dying in famine out of hunger in the last 2000 years.

I can understand Feli's problems with food as I'm Bavarian like she is. We like food with a distinctive taste and texture, and you can get it here because Bavaria is a big state with both industry and agriculture, so many things are produced right here. And guess which country is just on the other side of the Alps? Yes, Italy, a famous vacation spot for Germans, and also the home of the real Mozarella. Swiss and French cheese, well, Switzerland is not in the EU, and France is far in the west, so their cheeses are expensive here. ACs, you don't really need that in Germany. I have a fan for the few hot summer days we have, and, sure, it's a personal thing, but to me 32°C (90F) isn't really hot. Been to southern countries quite often, so maybe that's why. The banking system, sure, the European bank transfer system MUST be better as the common currency, the euro, officially started in 2002, and the technology was there, so they implemented smooth bank transfer between all banks in the "euro zone", and a unified numbering scheme for bank accounts, the IBAN (international bank account number). And it works. Grocery prices now and two years ago: Inflation hit Germany hard, too. I could have a full shopping cart with good stuff for a hundred euros. Now I often look for cheaper alternatives or ask myself whether I need a specific item or not. And it's not only groceries. Made plans for home improvement this summer but will have to modify them as the price for the quality materials I wanted to use has become insane. Alcohol in public, I just can't see what that has to do with drunk driving. I don't drink and drive just because I see a person in the park drinking alcohol. Might be me next Saturday, sitting there and enjoying my beer. Folks, that's all for now, I'll watch the 13 things she loves another time.
