The Brands should be doing more work expanding DeSanto's offensive arsenal. He's an average wrestler when he can't use that dump. He's already not good on the mat, so he has to be elite on his feet.

I agree he needs to expand his take down options. His right hand grip allows those consistent dumps and due to his broken finger during the semi's paired with RBY's adjustment to keep his left arm back Desanto wasn't left with many options. I'm a huge fan, but it really showed his lack of versatility. But Watching him finish and win his semi's after the injury was incredible.

Agreed, with what little time he has left he needs to work on that but also if he can’t finish he needs to push the pace the entire match like he does in the 3rd period, he could very well rack up a few points from stalling. Especially since RBY usually stalls

Did you see the interview. He credited his footwork to Dominic Cruz. Cruz is a best MMA fighter and started as good wrestler. It managed to bring footwork in to MMA like no other. You might be on to something about RBY's post college career.

@@cgmoran91 I agree, I agree, I agree my brother. I completely mimic my MMA game after Dominic Cruz. The only difference is that I'm a little sideways and I keep my right hand higher, and he is about a million times better than me. Arguably the greatest of all time. With his athletic ability and world-class wrestling ability, I believe he would definitely get a UFC title if he starts training in his prime.

@@nsmarc8 I know Suriano said he was. I think he is already training, at least in boxing. I think his wrestling style is really good for it. He often gets really upright. You especially saw it in his freshman and sophomore years. He was practically in a boxing stance.

@@andressandoval9043 Yes, that footwork is ONLY done to show off. That can work in boxing e.g. Sugar Ray Leonard or Ali, but not in wrestling. Do a shuffle then "pop" a quick jab etc.

True, he gets aggressive in the 3rd period, but for the 1st and 2nd he spends to much time reacting to rby. If he wrestled the entire match like he wrestled in the 3rd, it probably would have been a lot closer.

Rby is too good for desanto to get that aggressive. Against lesser wrestlers he can overwhelm them if he ends up in a bad position from being aggressive. Rby would capitalize on any bad position. Obviously Brands is a superb coach but I think Cael is better at game planning for specific match ups.

With lots of oppontents he can go super aggressive without much worry. That would get him in trouble with rby. I am looking forward to their next match and seeing adjustments they both make.
