After a Felt DA and BMC Time Machine , this bike has supported more top end speed than I would have imagined. It is also by far the most solid and quite riding (even over bumps) bike i have experienced . I love riding this bike !

as an owner of this bike i reassure you that the rear hydration is a big pain, if you want to use it and keep it clean it takes a lot of time and patient to reintall it. So i dont use it. Plus when it has 1,3 liters of water it totally changes the attitude of the bike.

thanks for you input. would you mind telling me if it's a good idea to install extra bottles/kits on Shiv TT and ride it for triathlon? Thanks.

I own a 2014 Shiv and I hate this new design. How do you refill the hydration cell behind the seat? Bento box looks like a reach to get your nutrition out. I can imagine a gel getting hung in the box and pulling the whole box out the frame. Seeing it bounce on the pavement. I'm not a fan of disc brakes either. I see problems for the average age grouper using this bike plus I sure it's priced accordingly. I love my current Shiv but I sure see a lot of red flags on this new Shiv.

Yeah I could see pulling that whole fuel compartment out when trying to get a gel

first of all re watch the bento box part it clicks underneath the frame on both sides so it wont pop out unless you pres the releash button en then start pulling it but over time it can become a issues do to fatique in those releash arms on the box itself . then indeed i agree with the fuel cell it only holds like 1,5 liters of water wich is not a lot and wanting to be areo i will not see pros use the other bottle holder for on course drinks and stuff so yeah that might be a issue.

I wonder how much adjustability of the seat height there is with that hydration unit behind it?
@iannovick2 жыл бұрын
It really depends on what you plan to put behind the saddle, and picking the right frame size. I've heard of some people who will have their tanks cut, so they can fit more BTS bottles For my part I just stop at the aid station and fill up the tank with 2+ bottles and move on. I got some flak from some of my ride buddies but, think about it - if you miss one bottle handoff, you are likely going to have stop any way. Still went sub 5 hours so the ride buddies stopped offering their learned opinions.

I have the previous model. Some great new innovations. Dont know why Keith would continue with a black hydration cell. If you are training or competing in hot conditions (like which prevail in most competitions) the black box heats up and you may as well drink boiling water. Dont mind if it looks ugly (as most would agree) so long as its well thought out, which it hasn't been. Hot box for hydration at back is useless, hopefully it can be replaced with dual bottles.

I can’t imagine that water system on the back is very functional. The new Canyon Speedmax CFR blows this bike away.

Any word on when they are going to trickle down the disc brake design to more affordable price points?

I like my old Shiv and I can't imagine to ride a homer (Shiv disc), because of the wing. It's all about estetics. They can tell me 100x it's faster with the huge wing, I would always opt for a wing level with the top tube. By the way, nobody needs 1,5l water in a triathlon, little secret, there are aid stations in a triathlon...

think the polite way to describe it is that it is function over form... Amazing bike no doubt but fugly all the same. Find it interesting that for all the aero stuff with the nutrition lucy charles went with the xlab bottle between the bars system in south africa

I really hope this bike is fast and comfortable, but that engineer does not have a clear idea of what a triathlon is about. The fit adjustements are great, just make a consumer version of this bike that doesn't force people to use that hydration system and make the bike more simple. I owed an old model of the Shiv for a couple of years and never used the "fuelselage" because the straw never worked properly, cant imagine it will now that the straw is two meters long.

9+ years since a new Shiv and this is what they come out with? kona was a failure with the pro's having issues with hydration. when using the bento box, Keith is basically holding it in place so it doesn't come out. the design hasn't grown on me and pretty sure it won't.
