Yup 6.0's done that, 6.7's heard if it never had to do it. Have to admit the 6.7 has been a pretty good engine for FMC but not a difficult fix, as usual solid work man... and about time we have a secret location video, its been a while!

Had a 2012 in two months back that the fan would not match the desired commanded RPM using the IDS in Datalogger mode. If I recall, there were only two codes. Both of which relating to the fan command/control. Replaced the fan clutch, and another one rolls out the door. Keep 'em comin'. Yer biggest fan, -Adrenacyde P.S. Maybe it is because of the area, but here in Miami, these fan clutches fail all the time. I guess the heat and humidity here really brings out the weak ones. This particular truck wouldn't idle longer than 10 minutes here without boiling over it's coolant.

I know on these trucks, to do a lot of service procedures you have to take the cab off to work on the back of the engine. How on earth do you do that on something like an F550 bus conversion? You know, where the bus body is integrated into the windshield and there is a custom door with steps on the passenger side.

My 2015 6.7 show 0 rpm and 0 percent on scanner with AC off on scanner. As soon as you turn AC on fan goes to 750 to 1000rpm and 35 to 50 percent. Shut AC off back to 0 again. With AC OFF driving if temp goes to 225 fan will engage and off at 220. Is this normal?

A very interesting video this time around. I just had to replace my fan clutch on my 2016 F-250 back around last September I think. But mine was replaced for totally the opposite reason. It was fully engaged all the time. It was not only a nuisance driving it like that, but downright embarrassing due to how loud it was. Thankfully, replacing it is not a big deal at all, as you already know. And thankfully mine was covered under warranty. A little off topic, but I notice the F-550 trucks use a cast iron EGR housing, versus the aluminum ones on the F-250/F-350 trucks. I wonder what the reason for that is?

I know they are probably trying to save weight wherever they can (pickup application), but perhaps it has to do with the Medium-Duty trucks being used primarily for commercial/heavy payload+towing pushes the aluminum past it's reliability point?

Dumb question, I have an 11 F450 with 211k miles throwing a P20B9 code and ford says it needs a new fan clutch. I went out to my truck and spun the fan just like in the video and it spins by hand in both directions with not a lot of resistance. I have a new fan clutch ready to put in just wanting to make sure that I’m replacing the right part. Thanks a bunch
@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod
@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod 3 жыл бұрын
Buddy maybe you had two problems.....that P20B9 is a in tank DEF heater problem, has absolutely nuthin to do with your fan clutch. Those are usually like P0480 series codes...

Lol I guess I got my codes mixed up, ford told me the truck is throwing 3 codes. The P20B9, and 2, P042E codes. Ford said fan clutch, def heater and an EGR valve stuck open. I have the fan clutch ready to install and plan on making the truck off road use only for a full delete.

Well if you just started the engine and fan is not spinning , I thought thst truck has electric fan , coolant and oil temperatures need to get to certain temperature in order for thr fan to engage, also if you using air-conditioned, 3 things trigger fan, oil temp , coolant temp, and air-conditioned, ? So if u start ur truck and you can stop fan right away it's because engine not hot enough and ecm didn't engage fan yet

Just had a cat get stuck in my fan and it took out the fan blade, radiator and cat, but now my fan is racing and has a slight shake until I hit the gas then it evens out( shake only) but then after a few seconds it shakes again, ( rough idle ) is what I mean by (shake). Do you think it wasted (cat) the fan clutch?

My 2015 F550 Cab/Chassis (Motorhome) overheated for the 1st time while towing up a steep grade and went into limp mode. After it cooled down I was able to turn around and get her back home. The strange part is there are no codes ? The fan is acting just like the one in this clip, no resistance, and I can spin it backwards while the engine is running. I would replace the fan without hesitation except for the fact that there are no codes. Any ideas ?
