@@scallen3841 I mean...all aircraft require maintenance hours. The Hornets at the time had a comparable downtime to the Tomcat. Just the Tomcat was more expensive.
@scallen38413 жыл бұрын
@@AngryCarMechanic So how many aircraft have you worked on ? I've seen the f-14 down for 14 hours for an engine change , the f-18 at the time was the c model an I happen to a jet engine mechanic on them from 1987-1992 . There was nothing comparable to the downtime between the two , the fa-18 was built for maintenance in mind .
@AngryCarMechanic3 жыл бұрын
@@scallen3841 I've never worked on aircraft outside the occasional C172, C152, and C162. But I've gotten to meet F-14 and F/A-18, Maintainers and Crew. I actually have a family member who flew Tomcats in Desert Storm. Just about all of them agree or have told me what I described. And of course an engine replacement will take 14 hours on a F-14 due to the nature of either the TF-30 or the F-110 that was installed. But in standard maintenance it was very similar time frames. About 4 hours down per flight hour for the F-14. About 2-3 for the F-18.

Watching this video does brings me sooo much joy to have served in the U.S. NAVY 1988-93 on board the U.S.S. TEXAS CGN-39. It was truly an honor and pleasure to see this magnificent beast of a fighter plane The Mighty F-14 Tomcat in action. The USS TEXAS along with numerous other vessels were part of THE USS NIMITZ CVN-68 BATTLE GROUP during Operation Desert Storm 1991. I can reacall many times standing lookout seeing flight operations especially the night time flight ops seeing The Mighty Tomcat takeoff with the afterburners at night is a thought and sight forever etched in my mind and heart, also there's a video here on KZbin " USS NIMITZ & USS TEXAS BOMBS AWAY" of our Tiger Cruise from Pearl Harbor to Alameda Naval Air Station California. In the video you will see some of the F-14 armament in action. Rest Well Mighty Tomcat for you truly served your purpose beyond the call of duty.....I salute you🫡🫡🫡

Last night, my girlfriend had a dream that she and I just casually went out on a romantic flight above the Atlantic Ocean in a Grumman F-14 Tomcat fighter jet together. And the 'Top Gun Anthem' was playing the whole time. We were low-flying by aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers, battleships, and stuff like that. I fired off two missiles while doing a sweet backflip! Did some crazy manouvers like I was Tom Cruise himself! Just went balls to the wall and went supersonic! Breaking the sound barrier! I want that dream to come true, too! That sounds like a lot of fun! I have seen F-14's in museums and sat in the cockpit of a decommissioned F-14, but I have never flown one. An ace pilot I am not.

Can someone tell me does pilot have ability to make one engine turn faster than the other one i.e(first fly by on video the aircraft seems to have left engine in afterburner but,not the right engine)???
@AirTales2 жыл бұрын
I have often wondered about that fly-by. It may be just a bit of an illusion since you are not seeing it straight from the back, and you are viewing it pretty close and from the right side. Or the right engine didn't light off to full afterburner and the left engine did. So the right engine was in "Min Burner" instead of "Full burner".
