If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Hormozi. I’m the founder and managing partner of Acquisition.com. It’s a family office, which is just a formal way of saying we invest our own money into companies. Our 10 portfolio companies bring in over $200,000,000+ per year. Our ownership stake varies between 20% and 100% of them. Given this is a YT channel, and anyone can claim anything, I’ll give you some stuff you can google to verify below.
How I got here…
21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
31 yrs old: Started our family office Acquisition.com. We invest and scale companies using the $42M in distributions we had taken + the cash from the $46.2M exit.
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.
34 yrs old: I became co-owner of Skool.com to help the many people who want to start a business online do so.
Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).
To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.
You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.
Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.
Never quit,
Alex

Biggest financial mistake I ever made was with my 401k. My company had a Roth 401k when my kids were in college, but I didn't actually start contributing until year 3 of the 6 years I had kids in college. Because I was helping them with expenses, I was entitled to the tax credits, so my effective tax rate was extremely low. That is the time you NEED to be in a roth! i still retired with about $350k in my 401k.

I totally agree; I am 66 years old, recently retired, with approximately $1.2 million in external retirement funds. I am debt free and have very little money in retirement funds compared to the total value of my portfolio over the past three years. To be honest, I didn't do all this alone, but with the help of a financial advisor. Having one is currently the best way to trade in the stock market, especially for people nearing retirement.

I'm going have to disagree with point 7. I purchase my groceries in bulk at Costco once a month which saves me time and money. I meal prep simple meals for the work week, which only takes me 2 hours max on Sunday. My meal prep consists of ground turkey/chicken/beef, rice, and a veggie mix. It costs me roughly $3 per meal, which is $12 daily since I eat 4 meals. I reserve a cheat meal for Saturdays.

Cooking might take you 2 hours, but that's not accounting for mental energy spent meal planning, driving, unpacking, etc. It's all the little things that add up to make it to be much more taxing than simply ordering some food. Albeit I side with you on this topic, healthy take out options are limited in my area, and it's great to know I'm making a good meal for my toddler+spouse.

I have similar reasoning as well. Another factor that I consider is, cheap food doesn’t always equal good food. You are what you eat so if you can buy quality ingredients for meals that you can prep I don’t think you sacrifice too much time and money and the benefit is that you’re able to eat a lot cleaner.

If you're reading this, I only started learning similar content in my early 30s, and I've gone from a regular day job to starting my own business ~6 years later. Imagine the difficulty before internet, when I was younger than 22 and surrounded by poor individuals . At that time, there was a lack of free information available, and very few opportunities to learn from intellectually stimulating individuals,. The nearest library with a handful quality books was located 20 miles away. The most intellectually stimulating conversations and moments I had were with my philosophy teacher at age 17. Going backpacking to south America and south East Asia in my early 20s was one of the SMARTEST things I've done.I remember one friend telling me 'you should be working, you can travel afterwards' I saw one thing that changed my life forever, I was walking in the mountains in one of the poorest countries in the world (Bolivia) and saw a truck with two YOUNG kids in rags in the truck who were probably around 4-8 months old. Guess what was looking after them? It was a dog, no cap ever since then my attitude towards money and earlier seeing abject poverty in Cambodia changed my life forever. Listen to the 14 money mistake people, TRAVEL YOUNG! You can always make money after, but if you don't go when your young you might never go.

Heavily disagree with cooking vs eating out. For one inflation with eating out is always goong to continually outpace the money you can spend on groceries but what are you going to do when you have kids? Its not sustainable. Plus you learn more about maintaining a healthy lifestyle by cooking at home and understanding meal prepping.
@xxTH3EMPIRExx

Agreed. You cannot eat out healthy for cheap and the money you’ll save in the long run by being healthy and saving on medical expenditures vastly outweighs the 20-30 min a day it takes to meal prep healthy food.

#8 is going to be key for most 20 year olds who are trying to go this route. It’s probably the best point he made in my opinion. People do not understand this way of life because they have decided that this path that Alex is explaining isn’t realistic or possible but that is on them and it’s most of adults I’ve learned. You have to keep pursuing yourself and your goals and those people’s opinions do not matter, not even your parents if they are trying to dissuade you too. You can’t listen to those who have never done what you are trying to do, listen to those who have. They can’t comprehend what they’ve never done so their default will be to automatically negate it.

The grocerie thing is just not true, I've heard a few of these gurus say this. You can not eat takeout for $10 a meal unless you're eating garbage poison food like McDonald's every day. Even McDonald's will cost you more than that now. If you go a healthier route with chipotle, a burrito bowl is $13 minimum, if you get double protein it's $18, which I definitely need cuz im a 26 year old guy who lifts. Two of those a day is $250 per week just to eat baseline calories. I can eat 3.5k calories every day, high protein, healthy, delicious meals for $125 per week shopping and cooking for myself.

Point 7 seems strange, but I think I understand it. The idea is, the time you lose by shopping, prep, cooking, and cleanup is worth so much more than the extra money you spend eating takeout. I've noticed this is true for me some days between my two jobs and BJJ training. If I spend an extra two hours doordashing and get paid $36 for it, it's actually more optimal to get $9 Chipotle or Bibibop, save myself a few extra hours on cooking and cleaning, and still wind up fed, happy, and $27 richer. The caveat is, you can't do this for every meal. It gets to a point where it's still more optimal to spend two hours shopping, cooking and cleaning and spend $3 for the majority of your meals instead of $9.

Nah. Had to downvote. I stopped listening at #7. #2. The SP 500 accounts for inflation. If costs go up, that’s because the companies raised prices, which is reflected in their revenue, which is reflected in their profits, which is reflected in their stock. #5. Lately I’m agreeing with that less. Cause I find that me and most people feel like something was “free” when they pay for something in cash and the transaction isn’t reflected in their bank account. If you actually want “pain”, make it a habit to write down ALL your expenses in a ledger. #7. I can eat some chicken Alfredo pasta for 75¢ a plate if I make it myself. I can eat steak and eggs for $1.50 if I make it myself. You gotta learn how to shop, man. 👎

Microwave 2 links for 90 seconds and put some fancy cheese slices and mustard on them, or have two burger patties on a george foreman with the same treatment and I’m honestly pretty happy to eat that 2 times a day. Perfect modified atkins ketogenic macro split to keep focus up and I never get decision fatigue from the abyss of deciding what I’m going to eat which can be HOURS for me

Number 7 get takeout don't cook your own food. I disagree if you're at the point where you're making enough money hire a personal chef this way you can control ingredients quality, certain ingredients that causes inflammation it's just going to be terrible for your memorization, Alex Hormozi said when reading a book he often reads it over and over and over just to get the information down but if he could maximize his long term memory due to the better ingredients how much time do you think he would save even if his memory improved by 20%.

It's pleasing to hear you speak about how it is more convenient for a 20yr to eat out than meal prep due to the extra time it takes to meal prep and grocery shop, especially when one is working full time. I tried meal prepping when I was 18 and it was a hassle to keep up with the grocery shopping, cooking etc. during school season, and now I only just go to the store to pick up fruits and snacks. I'm also glad to see you add in the spend money on one time experiences part, because I have not traveled internationally yet and almost entering my mid 20s, it was one of top goals to go on at least a week trip to a different country. I believe it could help deepen my understanding of the world by broadening my perspective on issues rather than just having the American view. My only question with the video is, what do you mean by investing money into your earning capacity? Does that mean attend courses for transferable skills, or pursue side jobs/business like real estate? Thank you for the sound advice and I'm looking forward to hearing your response!

Financial management is a crucial topic that most tend to shy away from, and ends up haunting them in the near future. Putting our time and effort in activities and investments that will yield a profitable return in the future is what we should be aiming for. Success depends on the actions or steps you take to achieve it. Good advice but if someone that wants my expertise told me "no, I won't give you 3k extra per year, you're missing the point, now it's time for you to learn, not to cash in"... well, I'd be the one happy to be rejected Learning is important But if I think what I'm offering should be paid more, you can't tell me "you're missing the point" I'm fine with you disagreeing on the price; I'm not fine having to disagree with you on why I think my expertise is worth what is worth Edit: also circumstances are different and so are needs, which is a concept that has to be factored in beyond the learning part; not to mention that I'd be learning something regardless

Lol this dude Alex at 1:16 roasts a guy for trying to negotiate an extra 3k on his salary for editing these videos 😂😂 Seems like a pretty reasonable thing to do. Instantly turned off by this guy yikes.

The thing with the eating is for health wise too, if you only eat takeout you’re putting more crap into your body rather than actually making yourself something good for you

2:45 ahhhh yes something someone who sells a course would say. U don’t have to spend 10k to learn to increase your income potential. In fact if you work for the right company, they will pay YOU to learn more, not the other way around. That was horrible advice. Especially when a lot of things can be learned online for free.

Underrated advice! So much stuff you can learn for free, the portfolio matters more than the amount you spend on education.

Everything great exercise 7. I mean come on. How can I function on 2 meals a day. It’s more than $20 a day… I get the point but in the beginning you need to save money until you can afford to spend 1500$ a month on take out food.

Heard someone say the best season for a fin.ancial breakthrough is now, especially with inflation running at a four-decade high. I have approximately $750k stagnant in my port_folio that needs growth. What is the best way to take advantage of this downturn?

Respect your work Alex but I massively disagree with point 7. Eating take out is not saving you money and it's certainly not improving your productivity. As the food you consume has a HUGE impact on your health especially brain function and energy levels. Eating take out 2 times a week is not only going to cost you financially it is going to cost your health too. The amount of processed oils, chemicals and preservatives in take out food is beyond comprehension and will lead to massive inflammation, brain fog, energy issues and more. Which is not helping your business or finances at all. And that's not including how expensive that is to do. $20 a day on take out is a massive waste of money in my opinion. It's not hard as another commenter has said here to meal prep and cook healthy meals in bulk. It will save you money and ensure your health is kept strong. Nothing is more important or powerful than good health. Eating take out is not going to help your finances or your health. That's the truth.

Grocery one is so wrong. Even if you spend a similar amount on cheap takeout, the takeout is cheap because its low quality. What you put in your body determines how well you function and can help you have more energy to work more, be more productive and set yourself up for making good health choices so that you aren’t diabetic at 40

4:51 "They will speak over you their limiting beliefs and they will often times not actually root for you. Undercut you in a sense." Came for a finance video. Ended up hearing one of the biggest life lessons I took from a previous relationship.

Thanks for that last point man. It meant a lot. It was really refreshing coming from someone who preaches so much about delayed gratification. Needed to hear that. My wife wants to go on a. Trip and I’m a Scrooge with money sometimes. And it’s a insane budget trip. That was some of the encouragement I needed to push it into gear.
