It's good to see that you eventually added driftwood at least to help them hide a bit. I had ornates, endlicheri, and delhezi cohabiting in a tank that was heavily planted on one side and filled with plenty of hiding spots on the other. My bichirs had extremely vibrant patterns and absolutely no damage to any part of their body despite the size differences because they all had spots to relax in. It's no wonder the endlis started getting aggressive towards your laps. My endlis were 17", ornates 15", and delhezi 10", and they had no quarrels. I'm not trying to put you down, but consider putting down more driftwood or plants to keep your bichirs stress free. They're very easy to care for compared to other fish, and every one I've had has been extremely docile, but these tanks look more barren than fish store tanks.
@BryanLa4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice! I've been thinking of adding plants with my bichirs to break their line of sight. I might add driftwood again but I noticed with the driftwood the bichirs would claim territories and fight. Once I removed the wood they dont fight anymore and they live in harmony. I nught try adding the wood again but well see!

Based on growing endlis for 3 years, their patterns go darker with black substrate, and fade with white substrate. I'm now growing a lap, patterns were faded due to previous owner had white sand, now on my black sand tank, patterns are starting to show.
@BryanLa4 жыл бұрын
Hmm that's interesting. My bichirs darkened up way too much in black substrate, and vice versa on bare bottom. I have them on red substrate right now and their patterns contrast the best in my opinion. My laps look like completely different fish lol.

@@BryanLa Red Substrate!!! That would look awesome!!! Is it Garnet Sand or crushed Lava Rock? I traded my 3 year old 18-inch endli to an 8-inch Lap last Sunday. It's starting to show it's patterns now. Can't wait to see it with its lines completely black!

I just started my third run at raising Bichirs. The first two albinos were killed by my Pacu about 10 years ago, I got another albino about 6 months ago, but it died within a week🤷🏽♂️ now I’m on my third try. This time I bought two albinos and two Endo’s. Unfortunately one of my Endo’s was sucked into the filter tube, I didn’t realize they were small enough at the time. I placed a cap on the end to prevent it from happening again. Since December the remaining 3 have grown like weeds! Nearly 9” for my Endo, and 7” for the albinos.

@BryanLa3 жыл бұрын
the WC lap in this video randomly died about 3 months ago. but it grew the fastest and ended up catching up to my smaller Endlichiri at 15 inches. WC will grow significantly faster than CB, my two CB laps have not grown and they look to be maxed out at 11 inches.

@BryanLa Жыл бұрын
at the time my bichirs lived with Datnoids, and alot of characins. for a 90 gal it depends on the tank dimensions. x18 or x24 inch. i would keep Geophagus with datnoids. they are good for clean up. or maybe even silver dollars, the small species.

What size tank was it at the end and how fast do they grown after 12 inches
@BryanLa4 жыл бұрын
The endlis spent time in a 100 gallon and a 125. The lapradeis spent their whole time in a 100 gallon. After 12in all bichirs equally slowed in growth except for the two endli. I have one CB lap which slowed in growth after 10in, the other two are around 12 now and the two endli are around 15in

@BryanLa4 жыл бұрын
I would have an estimated rate, but I haven't had mine for more than two years. And I honestly think it depends on how pristine you keep their water quality. In my experience, endlichiri grow faster than laps. And generally WC grow faster and bigger than CB bichirs.

Good day sir bryan, here i am again asking bichir questions. I also got a cb ansorgii who is thin and looks like boarderline sick. What care did you give your laps before he became okay? Did you put him on a qt tank?
@BryanLa3 жыл бұрын
I did not quarantine my lap when I got it. I should have, but I got it from a reputable store I've been purchasing from for years. When my lap was skinny I just fed it quality pellets and market fish and shrimp meat until it wasn't skinny anymore. Sometimes they're skinny from fish stores because they are housed with aggressive eaters like cichlids and whatnot. It might not be sick, it could just be a little hungry.
@johnjalani1243 жыл бұрын
@@BryanLa did you encountered wobbliness or like it has hard time swimming when hes still thin?
@BryanLa3 жыл бұрын
@@johnjalani124 one of my smallest laps that I've grown since it was young has the "wobbliness" traits you're mentioning. It does seem like it has a bit of trouble swimming but It doesn't prevent it from doing daily bichir things like eating and coming up for air. Not sure where that's from but I think it's from spinal injuries?
@johnjalani1243 жыл бұрын
@@BryanLa does his wobbliness gone eventually? I think mine was having a hard time to swim to gasp some air so i transfer it to a bucket with shallow water. Do you think this will help? I still dont know whats wrong. Ill keep trying hand feeding him and hopes he can survive.
@BryanLa3 жыл бұрын
Mine has no problem even with his wobble to get air and food. I don't think it goes away, if we're talking about the same type of wobble it's spinal related.

@BryanLa4 жыл бұрын
When I had a 55, I kept alot of upper jaws, like senegals and delhezi. In fact, the delhezi is one of my favorite bichirs and I recommend them all day for 55 gallons. Honestly, my 100 gallon wont support my bichirs in the long run, but u can always grow them out and rehome them later. Buy them as babies and have fun!
@BryanLa4 жыл бұрын
My old 55 gallon bichir setup had 3 delhezi, an albino senegal, and a payara. They were healthy but I had to water change frequently and I had a big sump on it. Domt be discouraged to get a small group, if needed just rehome them later
@Anitamaxwyynn3 жыл бұрын
I find your two laps look a lot more like senegal, cause the senegals also have the same pattern as the laps when they are small but they will eventually get faded away when they are older
@BryanLa3 жыл бұрын
Senegals don’t have the same patterns as Lapradei when they’re small lol? Laps have a bar that goes across their body when they’re young, and senegals have way less pattern. And in this video, my laps fade in color due to the change of black substrate to bare bottom and light colored substrate.
@metaversetrading1242 жыл бұрын
Senegal has small spots in line with clean body color, Laps have wide lines on the bodies, the video above was Laos, not Senegal, clearly and absolutely.

“i also added driftwood to the bottom, which was surprisingly peaceful” there’s just no way you weren’t like 10 making this video. you had fish in a glass box of water, with nothing in it, and you didn’t think that adding shit to stop them from seeing each other in their line of site. you had nothing in your tank, literally kept watching not for the bichirs size, but to see if you ever started caring lol
@BryanLa2 жыл бұрын
Hi! not sure if you kept Bichirs or not, but in some cases adding decoration can be an issue. Driftwood that "break their line of sight" isn't as effective with these guys. In my case, I had driftwood in my tanks and that caused territorial issues which caused my bichirs to fight. when I said "surprisingly peaceful" this is because once I left the tank bare, all the fighting stopped. This is also why alot of MFK fish keepers have bare bottom tanks without decoration. Also, decoration is just things these bichirs can smash into when they get scared. They don't get scared often, but when they do, they bolt all over the place and can damage themselves on decoration in the aquarium. I care for my fish, not sure if you have seen my recent videos with my Bichirs, but i've added driftwood back into my system and they don't really care for it. they can chill with or without it.
