The biggest issue I have with clothes is emotional buying. For years as a teen I collected dolls and so I’d buy doll clothes or new dolls if I was upset. When I realized I could simply dress myself like my dolls I adopted the habit of buying clothes whenever I felt sad. It’s why I have so many clothes and so many regrets. I’m trying to do better but it is a struggle and I appreciate you bringing it up.

Emotional shopping is the worst, I used to do it all the time and eventually I would just buy stuff whenever I felt bored, not good for the bank 😭
@dollfacedotcult4 жыл бұрын
I struggle with this as a result of bipolar disorder! I'll see smth online and - with no concept of how this will affect my bank account - buy the item fully knowing I don't *need* it. I just *want* it. these are really good questions to ask even if in that moment it only serves to make my bipolar ass do a double take.

you prolly dont care at all but does anyone know of a method to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!

One thing I try to do with online shopping is saving the item somewhere and leaving it at least for 2 weeks. If after this 2 weeks I still remember that item, still love it, still want it and (!) I still think I need it, then I'm going to buy it.

I do basically the same thing! I try to wait as long as possible until I’m REALLY sure I want it. Usually I forget it exists by the next morning lol

something i notice happen a lot when im clothes shopping online is that my first thought is "wow it looks great on that model, i want to look like that too!", even if said model is a different body type than me. things to consider is "how will that look with MY cup size/shoulders/waist etc. and more importantly will i feel comfortable in it?" usually the pictures on shopping websites can deceive us and make us think we will look exactly like the model shown and ESPECIALLY important to consider is that almost all the pictures will be photoshopped to look extremely idealized. the next time you fall victim to how perfect the model looks in the garment, their skin probably isn't that opaque and their waist probably isn't that small(and theyd probably die if it was ngl😬)

You mentioned some stuff in this video that I've never even considered before, like how the colours will fade and if the garment will yellow. Because I've only been doing this sustainability thing for almost 1.5 years and my wardrobe underwent massive change as a result, I haven't seen much of the affects of age. When I do it's mostly crappy fast fashion garments that age too quickly. I do handwash most of my clothes to keep them free of creases and pilling as much as possible, though.
@TheStitchess5 жыл бұрын
I think I only really consider it because most of the garments I buy anymore are vintage and thrifted and have already aged considerably in their previous life... most people here in the US aren’t willing to launder their clothing properly (or even know how) and it takes a toll pretty fast.

Preach the Pockets!!! I stopped buying things with fake pockets. I still have a few items, and each time I wear them I remember the pockets are fake and I get disappointed all over again.

I’m gonna quibble a bit: lolita, unlike the rest of the kawaii fashion styles, is mostly a collecting hobby. I don’t want anyone feeling guilty for having a lot of garments they love. If you’re happy with it and not running a risk of having financial difficulties go ahead and enjoy what you have but start the style with ideas of what your endgoal is to begin with.

I do accept one exception to the "do I already have a garment like this?" question for when the garment is one of the basic foundations of my wardrobe. There are a few basics that I would really benefit from having multiples of so that I can wear them more often.
@epictetushasepictiddiez26152 жыл бұрын
1) would you want it even if it's not (x) brand? 2) is it made of natural fibers? 3 will you want to wear this garment in a year? 3) will you want to wear this garment in 5 years? 4) does it fit your wardrobe color palette? 5) does it fit you? 6) can the alteration be made in a day? 7) can you make at least 5 outfits out of the garment? 8) why do you really want this? 9) do you have the laundry set up to wash it and go through with the washing? 10) Do you have something similar? 11) can u resell/rehome/upcycle? 12) what occasion can you wear this to and do those occasions occur often? 13) how will it wear out? 14) does it have pockets 15) can you find this/something similar for cheaper/more sustainable?

When I’m clothes shopping to replace others I tend to go for multiple things at a time so I limit myself to what I can comfortably carry and I carry that around the store for 10-30 minutes debating whether I actually need and love what ever I have that I’ve already tried on or if I’m just settling for the first thing I saw that fit me because I hate going to stores

Wow, I really needed this video. One of my own questions that I'd add to all those good ones is "where is it shipping from?" because I'm trying to buy as local as possible in order to decrease my carbon footprint. So I ask myself if the item is worth paying a high shipping cost both financially and environmentally :)

If it's gonna become yellow with time it is actually one of the things I consider a lot when buying a jumper for example and why I don't mind to buy white blouses but go more for an offwhite on a jumper. Great video =^.^=

Not to mention jumpers are usually impossible to restore once they DO yellow... 😣

It's funny you mentioned laundering silk, cause I have no problem hand-washing all of my silk garments, haha. But I absolutely draw the line at getting anything dry cleaned. If I'm too afraid of ruining an item by washing it, then I can't buy it. I can't waste time and money getting something dry cleaned. Plus, I don't trust the chemicals, even the "green" ones.
@tinnerste25074 жыл бұрын
There were silk garments hundreds of years before there was dry cleaning! Im sure handwashing will do!

Good Shtuff! 🙏 I have a little list of all the attributes a piece of clothing might have that I hate and if it has even one of those, I don't buy it. The list is kind of extensive and it really weeds out things I'll never completely love to wear, keeping me from buying them. (Btw, love your hair!)

Honestly I don't own many items that could be worn to the grocery store or a family barbecue without drawing stares. I went numb to that a long time ago. I get what you mean though. It's important for a garment to be something you would feel comfortable wearing on a regular basis.

Because of my bust size i feel like almost nothing looks "right" on my body, so my closet is full what I consider placeholder items. I don't think there's anything in my closet i'd refuse to throw out besides like 3 items. I have no idea how to find new clothes that I love if none in my closet do :\
