I used to own a ton of clothes, but since I've been transitioning to male I got rid of most of them. I've been slow to regrow my new wardrobe because I used to have too many outfits to reasonably use without feeling obligated to wear something I didn't feel like wearing. While I enjoyed the experience of choosing unique outfits for social gatherings and performances, the ritual of choosing unique outfits, or even outfits I hadn't worn in a long while, began to feel like an elaborate chore. Now I only own several outfits per season, but I usually have three primary outfits that I gravitate toward. If I'm wearing an outer shirt, it's usually only on for a few hours of the day, so if I feel like wearing it with a different shirt and the same pants the exact next day, I just will. I basically dress like a Sim now, and it's so emotionally refreshing.

And repeating outfits with a small wardrobe helps you get a more recognizable style even if you can't afford super nice clothes. I used to hoard cheap clothes as a kid, but as I narrowed it down to about one basket in high school I got such a recognizable style I got in the school yearbook with it. All I wore was some t-shirts, two of the same baggy cargo pants, a pair of jeans, and a single flannel. (Although the addition of a hoodie has helped.) If 15 year old nonbinary can pull off a noticeable style while repeating cheap outfits y'all can too.

A guilty pleasure of mine is definitely watching those ridiculous closet purge videos, but it's also kind of sad that people just buy and buy and buy, without ever asking themselves if it's something they need or even if they like it. Apart from being unsustainable and wasteful, I find so much joy in curating a more intentional wardrobe full of pieces that I feel a connection to, I feel like it reflects the fact that I really know myself. And yeah, like other commenters have said, most people who don't have tons of $$ to burn can't live that way, ya gotta be creative with what you have.

Finding new ways to mix and match things you already have is one of the most satisfying things to do, however it takes time, and if you’re busy and have to get to work or school on time, just wear what you know works, because changing in and out of clothes takes time, probably more time than you’d think, or would like to waste, trying new combos is really only for days off when you’re not busy.

I have multiple styles too. I try to buy things that can be used I more than one way. So I like the femininity and cuteness of jfashion but sometimes that feels inappropriate or too attention seeking somehow for everyday western events so I have ordinary clothes too. I'll try to explain in a little more detail... So for example, I got this pooufy lolita type skirt all frilly and that. And I made some bows, which I can pin to a polo neck knitted jumper which only has a slight ruffle on the shoulder, the bows makes it more lolita style. But I can wear the jumper alone with jeans too or with a blazer and it looks western style. And I can wear the jeans with a hoodie and tee shirt, or smarten them up with a plain silk blouse. I can smarten the lolita type skirt with the blouse too and the blazer, to make it look more western. You might think the silk blouse wouldn't suit my cutesy mini skirt and be too formal, but layer it under the tee shirt I mentioned already and that dresses the silk blouse down so the outfit works. If I pin a lace collar to the regular collar on the silk blouse, add a wide strap sleeveless top and then pin the bows and wear it with the pooufy skirt, I'm back to looking lolita inspired style. The sleeveless top with or without the hoodie looks great with the mini skirt, as does the polo neck knitted jumper. So one day you see me looking traditionally Western, the next day I've got a lolita vibe going on and the next day I look kawaii, but it's all the same set of clothes mixed differently.

I have work outfits that I repeat weekly, some times, because they make me feel happy and confident when going in. My students notice, but considering I have some who do wear the same shirt/jeans combo every single day, or the same hoodie every day, we just sort of acknowledge and move on. They don't care - or if they do notice, it's more of, "Magistra, you're wearing the color-changing pants today!" (cross-woven velour red/blue - I've had them almost 20 years now, and they are a staple. The color looks different depending on how I move and how the light hits the fabric, and it fascinates them every time). It's amusing to me, because my students like knowing the basic type of outfit I'm going to wear, because they can recognize me halfway down the hall in a crowd if they see my top, even if my back is to them. Makes fire drills a lot easier!

I have a tendency to save up my "good clothes" for when I feel like they're worth being worn. Thus, I'm repeating the same 5-7 outfits every season. The reasons why are: 1. I'm currently surrounded by people that won't even appreciate my outfits (I'm talking about lolita, himekaji, larme fashion), so in order to get through this awfully long rough patch, I wear my "borderline" clothes that, the way I put them together, they aren't mainstream, but not alternative enough to draw too many attention. 2. I'm waiting to move to a better place, where I can wear my clothes freely, and so the garments can be properly respected. 3. I'm making an effort to have a body that's worth wearing those clothes, and until I don't get it, I feel uncomfortable and unworthy. (I mean, by exercising and eating healthy ofc)

However, I feel some comeback because of the whole thing of posting daily outfits on the internet, but it's not as people "in real life" will notice or comment about it. Actually, I don't really like repeating outfits to bigger parties, where there'll be a photographer and such... when I see the photos I kinda feel like I wasted an opportunity of taking good photos with a different outfit! But I probably have a little of that "don't repeat outfits" mindset lingering in the back of my brain XD But I like to choose clothes that will get A LOT of use afterwards!

I only invest in clothing of quality that brings me happiness. Obviously investing in quality is a luxury, but seeing as I can do this I want to make sure I'm making ethical choices. EDIT: I AM SO HAPPY THE ALGORITHM HAS LED ME TO YOUR VIDEOS

I wear the same thing everyday! I have 7 black shirts, 3 pairs of the same jeans, and 3 pairs of the same shorts. I do also have 1 black long sleeve shirt, 1 black sweatshirt, 1 black sweater, and 1 black hoodie for when it's cold out. (As well as 1 black dress, 1 black coat, 1 black rain coat, 1 black swimsuit, 1 black pair of pj shorts, and 1 black pair of pj pants, lmao) I have a few other shirts for when I'm doing painting projects or something, but other than that, that's my outfit EVERY DAY. And I love it! It's so easy to get dressed in the morning, I always feel confident because these are clothes I love, and I never worry about laundry because I just do it once a week. I have had people ask if I'm a cartoon character and I think it's hilarious. I think more people should look into capsule wardrobes (obviously not everyone will be happy with the same situation as me) but I think it's a good idea for people to become more conscious about the things they own and the things they buy.

I need to wear more of what I own. I find clothes I like, then forget I have them and wear the same thing again ^^; It doesn't help that I have to wear a uniform at my job, so I have less opportunity to wear my stuff. Great video!

When I get tired of wearing socks, but still like the overall design on these socks, I just hop behind the sewing machine and make fingerless gloves out of them!

I repeat my outfits all the time. And any experimental outfits I put them on my manican to see if they look good then I wear them too. I know that most of my stuff go together

Okay so I havent watched the video, I just saw the title for a fair warning. I really feel like if you have a well structured wardrobe that you will always have the ability to mix and match multiple pieces with other articles of clothing in your closet. "Well structured" as in, you have your basics (neutral colored tops/pants/shoes) as well as staple pieces that can easily go with any of your different basics. For example, a black v neck top can be paired with a long skirt to give off a casual look, or it can be paired with a blazer and slacks to make it more professional. Clothes are something I'm so passionate about, and If you can be eco friendly while still having a love for clothes then more power to you cause our planet desperately needs it!!

... I was a goodwill kid and have never gotten rid of a piece of clothing until I'd worn it to death or it no longer fit (in which case I donated it to goodwill). the majority of my friends were the same. I'm from the US, I totally don't relate to people in the comments... I mean, now that I'm an adult (and as a teenager) I buy new clothes, but I follow the rule of 3's - you cannot buy a piece of clothing unless you can think of 3 complete outfits you can make with it from your existing wardrobe. And then you wear it until it dies, years later, peacefully in its sleep

When I finished school and started uni something I really missed was the uniform, for two main reasons: 1) I'm lazy, so not having to choose an outfit in the morning is great, 2) I truly love the pleated skirt, button up shirt and baggie sweater combo. After a year or so I realized, I could wear something like a school uniform but more fashionable, simple as that. And luckily I never heard someone say something negative about my outfits being repetitive, it's quite the opposite actually. And after all, isn't a "power suit" just that?

If anything, I need to not wear the same thing not as much lol. I used to wear the same black skater skirt every day (no joke) and now I wear either my black sweat pants or my baggy black jeans every day. I also wear a long coat and scarf so it's not like anyone really notices. I'm working on dressing more fun and cute tho

I feel like it is a very american/north american thing. Where i live even stylish/more well off people that have a closet full of clothes tend to repeat without problem, if we discard clothes is because one is bored with it / it's broken/it's not on trend anymore but there is no pressure on repeating outfits. maybe it's a bit taboo in special occasions but i always wear the same black dress at every function and i never had problems

Build a closet that allows you to wear a veriety of combinations for one fashion genre < Have one outfit for each fashion subculture you fall in love with and not be able to combine any of the pieces
