my problem is honestly that i just really enjoy so many different styles and types of clothing and aesthetics? I'm very into the more kawaii side of fashion but also really into more vintage and earth-toned style, but i also really love more dark fashion and it feels impossible to really blend any of those together
@lisaparamonova3664

I have the same problem as you :( I also find that I jump between wanting to look more masculine or more feminine on different days, so my wardrobe sort of makes a spectrum between the two. I found this video interesting but not really applicable to me (I am open to advice! It just seems that way to me). Personally, I find that I go through my wardrobe, and if I can think of several outfits I want-and can make-combining the item with other items, then I keep it. I do the same thing when shopping. This way I don't buy stuff that I like but can't really use, even if they're nice.

Pastels and black go so well together. Try mixing and matching your kawaii and dark fashion out. Maybe have some kawaii and dark color palettes in a vintage silhouette? As for the earth-toned style I'm not sure. I'm stuck on what to do with a dress that I love how it fits, but does not really match any other style in my closet.

If its an earthy and cute style with also some dark colours, maybe try mori style? Its a mix of mori girl, which is kind of like village girl aesthetic with nature elements on it, so its usually earthy browns and greens. They also uses a lot of lace around if you like that. They have dark earthy tones too, so you're not always bright and peppy.

I have the same problem and everything I heard from others is that you just have to 'sacrafice' some styles and accept that you can't have different aesthetics. I actually sacrificed most of my bright colored vintage clothes but I also kept some vintage things because I enjoy them so much. In my past I made the mistake to completely get rid of my 'girly' things which I really miss now for some mori girl inspired outfits. I think it's okay now to own different wardrobes and not be able to connect everything into one style. It makes you unique anyway:))

At the beginning of 2019 I was so into lazy oaf and convinced that that was my true aesthetic but I’ve finally realized I’m just a vintage girl, specifically 60s-80s and I have an affinity for pastels. I’m still keeping some lazy oaf (like my bear front dress and puppy party dress) but only the stuff that fits my vintage look. I’ve had a vintage aesthetic since middle school but I always felt like I had to normalize it somehow or make it more “alt” and I’m so glad now I’m just sticking with what I actually wear! This video was great help as I’m currently going through my wardrobe so thank you for making this!

I love 60s and 80s pastel vintage looks 😍 but I get feeling that need to make your style more alt. It’s like even though we’re outside the norm we still feel like we need to fit in somewhere? I feel like lazy oaf was (and still is) like this “it girl” brand and a lot of us were drawn to them because it’s almost like a status symbol to have lazy oaf clothing in your closet... I’m glad you’ve managed to find a style that works for you and feels more personal!

My style is supposed to represent me; someone who has given up on labels and gender and is just being true to themself and is dressing in what they like. The general themes of my clothing is yellow, nature, and comfortable clothing that isnt form fitting. The base line for my style really is showing who i am on the inside on the outside. I dont fit a category of people, im not an outsider like people think i am, im just me!

my underlying aesthetic is vintage eclectic 5 year old boy - coloured denim, bright graphic shirts, patterned button ups and windbreakers - lots of 80s and 90s pieces with lots of clashing patterns and colours but then i make them really cutesy with cute n colourful accessories. i also have a soft spot for any vintage neons - my sister just got me an 80s neon schoolkid backpack from Italy! anyway so yeah idk if my aesthetic is a real thing other than in my head hahahaha

i also dress like this, but switch out the jeans for coloured checkered and plaid pants - i love clashing colours so much, especially if they're all one colour in an outfit and clash real bad. once of my favourites is wearing very different clashing pinks, so i have a pale burgundy baggy jeans and then a salmon pink jumper that my grandma knitted and the clash is just perfect

I think that's a very good point about dressing for who your are and not who you want to be. Like I think fairy kei as well as lolita are super cool, cute styles that I would love to pull off.... but at the moment I'm just not comfortable enough to go full out in something like that. So I'm gravitating towards still really cute garments that are a little more...tame? And lots of pink, lol. XD I love soft pink. I'm coming out of a completely gothic phase because black suddenly made me really uncomfortable. I'm pretty excited to change my style, but from this video I immediately saw I might be going a bit too fast. XD In other words, really good video, I feel like I've gotten some excellent tips. Here's to hoping I figure out my own style soon. ^^

Dang I wish I had this advice years ago 😂 All I bought for a while were statement pieces and I could never settle on a style. I've loved Lolita, fairy kei, midori, yamikawaii, menhera. In recent years I've tried turning my whole wardrobe into casual cosplays of sorts, outfits based off of what I see characters wearing in anime. Now I realize that what I actually wear on a regular basis are one piece dresses and sandals, because it's hot around here and I'm lazy 😋

kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqK3kKWcotVgm68 this might help 💗. What i understand is that they're pieces that work well with everything and are pretty simple
@fuchsfarben
@fuchsfarben 4 жыл бұрын
That's right, basics are pieces that can be combined with a lot of other garments, just like pizza dough that you can slap all kinds of toppings onto. Basics don't have to be a single color, for example: you have a shirt with a print on it that includes the colours pink, mint and yellow. You can combine it with a dress/skirt/pants that can be either pink, mint or yellow :) Basics are supposed to be versatile which often includes them being colourful as well. Single coloured garments lend themselves to be used with more "statement-y" pieces since they are considered more simple (f.e. a white blouse, black top). You can play with contrast as well, basic pieces really depend on your style. In my case: I like darker jewel tones and dark greens for tops, since I have really fair skin and those colors go great with my hair color and skin undertones. A good basic pair of pants therefore should be something that goes well dark reds, blues and greens; and to make the outfit a bit more interesting by adding contrast; should be a lighter tone = a light to medium grey (for making cooler toned outfits with the dark blues and reds) OR a light brown (to bring out warmth with the greens and reds). Since I'm not that much of a fan of patterns and colourful prints, I choose to make outfits more interesting through contrast/light+dark. I have a lot of washed out light jeans, so a good basic to show them off is a dark top. SinceI have a few black tops with interesting sleeve- and collar cuts I can switch the light jeans to being a basic item as well! (I'm a pretty basic bitch lol) I hope this helped you a bit :')

@@fuchsfarben I love my basics too honestly the cut of the clothes matter more to me than the minute details. I think the most statement like piece i want is a cropped hoodie with could shoulders but with ribbons laced where the shoulders are and tiny cat ears on the hood. Then some plaid and gingham for some middle ground.

I'm kind of in a big transition period right now wardrobe-wise, I graduated college last year and started an office job several months ago so pretty quickly I discovered that I needed to donate a lot of jeans and t shirts and buy more business casual wear. I've found that some crossover between cottagecore and dark academia is a style that makes me happy and is also appropriate for my work where I am 5 days a week.

I've tried so hard to figure out what I want but i'm still super stuck. I've spent so long in just jeans/shorts and graphic t-shirts. I was slightly chubby and held most of my weight on my belly back when it seemed everything was very clingy. Now i've lost the weight and i'm super happy with my body, everything in the stores seems baggy and loose, which looks awful on me now. Plus, a lot of fashion out there in stores just looks so awful imo! I had a friend who says shes into fashion and she took me shopping and there wasn't a single thing she picked out that I liked. There wasn't really anything on the shelves that I liked. It's not even a "I don't like how this looks on me because i'm not use to it" no, its straight up "I think that looks like a sack of garbage on the hanger" My biggest struggle though is shoes. I could probably figure out something clothes wise, but I need to have the shoes to go with it. I live in running shoes or converse and the addition of black boots for some of the winter. I'm not a fan of sandals because barefoot, my feet just stick to them or dirt gets in them and they're just not comfortable. Slide-style sandals are okay, but the ones I find comfortable look like they belong in my mom's closet. I don't like any kind of skinny heel, i'll do a low block heel on a pair of boots and that's pretty much it (like what is on actual riding boots, not 'fashion' riding boots). Ballet flats give me a blister and plus, I think they look kinda ugly anyway. They make feet look really weird. And honestly, I hate the look of 'fashion' sneakers. So I just feel like i've eliminated every shoe option besides what I already wear. And I live in the south, so the boots are only good for a small portion of the year. Having worn my below-the-knee high, lace up leather boots (that I adore so very much) for a cosplay in august.... yeah, they are not meant for summer! If I could just hide my feet, I think I could figure out a new wardrobe. Butttttt I've gotta wear shoes.
@rhythmandblues_alibi
@rhythmandblues_alibi Жыл бұрын
Have you considered Oxfords/brogues? I used to live in either my riding boots or sneakers and as I've gotten older I've found these type of flat shoes with a small heel to bridge the gap quite nicely and I have thoroughly adopted them as a key aspect of my personal style. They are also super comfy but better for your feet than sneakers. You can also get them with laser cut-outs for airflow in summer! Highly recommend 👌

Another thing to bear in mind is what you need your clothes to do. Do you have safety rules to abide by for work? Do you have practicality things your clothes have to do? Do they need to be stretchy, or easy to wash, or accessible for any health issues? Watch out for clothes that Fantasy You would wear, but Real You wouldn't. For example! I'd love to wear more stiff blouses. Fantasy Eni rocks blouses all the time. Real-World Eni has much too active a life for that. I have to lift my arms over my head, run, carry heavy things, and get dirty for work. I can't wear stiff, tight blouses without ripping and/or staining them. Plus I have sensory issues and chronic illness things that make them hard to wear some days. So the one or two I own mostly stay in the closet. I've recently started finding some blouses that are softer, sturdier, and more flexible, so I can work in them. Anyway. That's my one added point. I really love this video, I come back to watch it as a reminder every so often. I feel pretty settled in my style at the moment, but that took me several years to do. I still appreciate reevaluating my style and how it's changed, and whether my closet actually reflects it.

Don't mind me I just wanna write about my aesthetic changes :] I went through some fashion aesthetic changes, from kawaii gyaru (and kinda goth) (2011-2015), to 80's/90's (2016-2020), and now I'm changing to the 30's-50's. The gyaru (and goth) were so unique! I got to meet people with similar liking, girls and boys! I used to do cosplay too during that time :3 My role models were Popteen and Ageha magazine's models, I got huge inspo from anime, vocaloid, and cosplayers. Honestly the goth thing was that I mixed the kawaii in clothing and accessories and goth in my hair and make up (THICK eyeliner lmao) so Idk whether to separate it or not lol I did both the same time. I had straight long (sometimes I cut it medium length) shaggy hair with thick bangs that ends on my eyelashes. I went to college in 2016. I moved to a pretty conservative city far away from my hometown alone. So I felt a huge pressure to fit in. But I don't want to look like anyone else. I've always been the tiniest among my family and friends, so I got a lot of used clothing from them that are good quality but too small for them. Many of them were bright colored shirts and floral (still vibrant bright colored) dresses, my dad even gave me his old baggy jeans. So I said, "vintage-inspired fashion it is!" My role models were Matilda from Leon The Professional, Pinterest pics, and cute girls on Instagram whose photos were not credited by the reposters... I had blunt bob with chopped bangs, and in 2019 I had pixie cut (and I still wore eyeliner lol but less thick) During that time, I learned that I love dressing vintage-inspired (despite the pressure to fit in because of culture and I'm an adult now so I had to look ✨professional✨ to the people's standard)! I've got people telling me I looked like [insert local 80's/90's celebrities name], which made me feel like what I've been doing was legit lol. But I want a slight change to that. I've been watching a bunch of vintage fashion KZbinrs, and I decided to try either 30's, 40's, or 50's fashion (or combination of those!). I find those era fit my traditional feminine personality in fashion, and quite easy to find the clothes to fit the era. I'm currently collecting the clothes for that now :] I'm glad I got some dresses from my grandma, and some of my 80's/90's clothes could pass as 30's-50's inspired with some little touch (really though, the newer clothes had big armholes that no matter what I do, I'd still be looking modern unless I smaller the armholes). I enjoyed it all so much. Such a rollercoaster for me but I love all of the aesthetics that I did and do. It's making me proud of how I'm still managed to be myself even under the pressure of the society. Some of my friends even tried to find their own aesthetic after seeing me being proud of what I wear :3 Thank you for making this video. Back then I used to wear whatever available in terms of color and size, and sometimes it really messes up the aesthetic. You really helped people who are still trying to figure out their aesthetic! (I can feel my 13 y.o. self squealing at your aesthetic! So cute!) And for those who are into aesthetic of a certain era, I highly recommend to research what fabric were used, the structure of the clothing, and the undergarments! Because it changes your silhouette a lot! Also the hairstyles! (I hope I can do cosplay again when I get on track with my life, lol.)

I keep buying things that i like but take a lot of energy to put on, or feel awful on my skin, so I barely touch them. I need to focus more on the way the clothes feel in order to find the aesthetic I like!

When I got my current job, I bought so many new pieces of clothing for the person I was hoping I would turn into. Now I'm working on identifying what I found so exciting about them (nice fabrics! Coordinates! Look polished!), and how I can apply that to clothes I'm more comfortable wearing.

i've been a goth for the past 2-3 years now, but these days i felt like wearing cute outfit, but im afraid of changing because it would be too drastic ._. any suggestion? n is it normal for a very dark aesthetic person to change into cute-ish all of the sudden? i felt weird with myself but i like soo many cute things these days weirdly

I'm a guy, I'm into men's 80's trad goth which is not a Japanese fashion. But lately, I've been getting into fairy kei boy style. I really cute things, and pastel colors like light purple. I just have to figure out how to mix the two. There is pastel goth, but IDK about it. I find it very ironic that even though they are completely different, both fashions are centered around 80s fashion.

I want to look kinda wizardy or witchy but it's hard because all the old druid clothes were draped and impractical for me. Going to the store looking like Merlin is just too much. I guess I just have to slowly gather up bits and pieces and let it all come together naturally.

My issue is that "my style" is many conflicting different styles soo idk I'm still lost .. sometimes I look like a grandma/first grade teacher, some days I'm the Disney girl, sometimes I'm goth, and commonly I like obnoxious clothes and idk any better way to express that, for ex I have a b/w stripped shirt with a dripping rainbow that I'll wear with a neon green smiley choker and purple leggings and white combat boots 🙃

-I wear jeans and t shirts -I don’t like just wearing jeans and t shirts -As a man I’m not sure what else I can wear on a daily basis. -I like button up sweaters but it’s only cold for part of the year. -I guess I like comfortable and nice looking clothing -I don’t like suits or button up shirts or polos -Lately I’ve been putting together a male witchy Pinterest aesthetic board but it’s very erratic as that doesn’t really exist without getting goth or punk looking. -I think that’s the style I want to wear though if it exists. -I’m always jealous that women get so many style options while men get jeans and t shirts. That’s not saying I want to wear feminine clothing either I just wish something else existed that was masculine but different.

I've always felt like that too. While women have lots of options men seems to have waaaaaay less. I guess you can play with fun sweaters, with different shapes, investigate the style you like and find stores that seem to reflect it most. Good luck, I don't know if I was even helpful XD.

I got kicked out, so most of my clothing is unfortunately gone, but thankfully I left some of my clothes at my partner's which is where I live now. I also have a very specific style I wear, which is basically a mix of dark mori and 90s romantic goth. I need several long black skirts in different patterns and textures.

I looove your video. I just want to ask, what do you mean by the two selfs part, I mean, this kawaii style, surely this isn't "who you are" ? It is just what you love and want to be or maybe even just what you love and want to look like. I am just confused, it is normal to not dress to show who you are, but to appear valid and appropriate and this changes to every place. It would really help to tell me how your style resembles who you are? And if it doesn't what the idea is ? Thank you ❤️❤️

Ok, wearing lots of different styles is difficult, but any tips on how to make it work without needing a wardrobe that's too huge? I tend to flip flop between grunge-ish (t-shirts, hoodies, jeans, baggy style) and victorian inspired-ish (long skirts, ironed button up shirts). I love both styles, ideally I'd have items that work for both, but they seem so opposing to me, in colour (aside from black lol), silhouette, and texture. Anybody any tips? Great video though, thanks! :D
@blackwing97

what if you added details of one style to the other when you wear them? like a small grunge accessory with a vintage outfit or vice versa. if you mix the styles, then you can re-use more of what you have. you also have a more cohesive, unique style.
@KarolaTea
@KarolaTea 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that might work in some cases, and mixing styles is certainly something I do haha. But I also quite like to have "pure" outfits of one style, esp when it comes to elegant vintage. Accessories are easy enough to switch out, and don't take up much physical wardrobe space so I'm less concerned about them. But like, the basics? A nice ironed vintage button down shirt (let alone one with poofy sleeves/fancy collar) is kinda the opposite of the baggy/chill style. Or at least I don't know how I'd work that in, or which basic garnments could fit in both styles. I'm less concerned about having a unique, cohesive style, I'm neither unique nor cohesive myself after all ^_^

I haven’t finished the video but I responded to some one then realized I have a really big problem; I love black, blood red, and dark purple everything (Victorian Era for bonus points) but I also find Decora Kei accessories to be the most adorable things. I’m not into bright colors but Decora Kei takes it to a new level especially with the mainly homemade accessories and I’m here for it. What do I do?

My style is a cute and lazy girl in a cozy sweaters, that meets a sexy stripper lol Actually, im very cute at fall and winter (maybe with some sexy details), but when summer comes i go from "yes, ma'am" to "your son calls me mommy too" in a moment and it confuses people around me Upd: also, I wish I was more edgy-looking in a punk/goth side with some neon on my black clothes, but I don't want to give up all the interesting colours and solutions I love and usually end up buying casual clothes, but with some edgy accessories in it.

Here's something I struggle with: I could do this if summer didn't exist. But I HATE the way I look in summer clothes. I'm a bit bottom heavy and soft and my body doesnt look very masculine unless I layer. So I look horrible in the summer and that wardrobe is entirely different from what I wear the rest of the year. The other main thing I struggle with is fit. I'm just NOT shaped like how the fashion industry expects me to be as a man. It makes it especially hard to thrift. Any tips for overcoming these challenges? I know it's probably outside your realm of expertise because of gender.
