* Please Note * This is a revised version of the original video uploaded on 21/10/24. If you’ve watched the original, there really isn’t anything new in this version! Explanation - Near the end of the previous video (Roughly 12 minutes in), I used a piece of background music that I thought was an old un-copyrighted KZbin track, it wasn’t, it was a piece of copyrighted music. I have therefore removed the previous version, edited it, and uploaded it again with un-copyrighted KZbin music. This did however also give me the opportunity to address the audio issue some had mentioned (Justified!!) and also add the Wheeltop disclaimer that I had recorded, but forgotten to include. Sorry for any confusion caused.

My goodness, I would have never figured out why mine doesn't shift to 1st and 2nd gear if I haven't watched your video. Like you said, HAD LOTS OF FUN finding the limit screws haha.
@ribblevalleycyclist13 күн бұрын
Wheeltop couldn’t explain it either, they were in the process of sending me a replacement derailleur! I even bought a new hanger, and extension. It was only when Wheeltop published the user manual a few weeks later that I worked it out!! If only they’d sent me that manual in the first place.

Excellent instruction! Thank you for your time providing this. I'm basically interested in doing the same build including frame, wheelset, wheeltop group, etc. do you plan to review the frame and wheelset? I'd love to hear your thoughts on those.

Glad you liked it. I have a complete build video in the pipeline, but it'll be the Wheeltop Gex groupset used on ICAN frame, fork, and gravel wheelset. I'll also be testing out the ICAN custom painting service.

Hello! Great videos, I think I've watched them all. One question: Is it necessary to replace the olives and barbs? Did you reuse them?
@ribblevalleycyclist21 күн бұрын
Glad you've enjoyed the videos. A very good question. As long as the olive size (BH59 or BH90) is like-for-like, then there is a strong chance that you can re-use it. My advice would be to get some for your spares anyway, as they're not expensive, and good to have in stock. Swap your components out, and test. As I say, the chances are, you'll get away with it. But, in the unlikely event it does leak, you've got the spares anyway.

@@ribblevalleycyclist Thank you very much. I just want to changue the handlebar on my bycicle (I'll keep the same shifters), I'll give it a try. I thought that it was totally obligatory to changue the barbs and olives since they get "crushed" inside the levers. It is a little bit harder to get spare parts where I live. Greetings from Chile

Nice to see some miles put on the GeX. Thanks. A question for you about head unit pairing: Does the battery status show correctly?
@ribblevalleycyclist2 ай бұрын
Getting a few more miles in.... was out with it yesterday and thinking how good it feels, really does shift well. The battery does seem to be displaying accurately, from what I've seen so far, but for some reason, my head unit thinks the GeX is a 2x, and is showing the front derailleur as being dead. To be honest though, I've not tinkered to try and sort this yet.
@hill160881Ай бұрын
Please attempt to pair the gex gravel RD with the TX hoods!!!!! We all want to know and my gex system is still weeks out from delivery. I suspect the firmware is different and will prevent this working but the only way to know is to try.

Hi, i've enjoyed your videos on the Wheeltop groupsets and have ordered a GEX. I was wondering if you are seeing rust on the bolts of the GEX like you did the TX version? Thanks.
@ribblevalleycyclistАй бұрын
Hi, Just come down to the workshop to have a tidy up, and have checked this for you while down here. I’ve left it outside in the cold and damp quite often, and looking at it, there are no signs of rust. An important 👍

A couple of questions, if you don't mind (to anyone who might know); 1) Hydraulic hoses and levers compatibility. - How do I know which hydraulic hoses are compatible with which levers? - with or without needing to change olives, barbs etc - ? For instance, are Shimano SM-BH90-JK - compatible with most other Shimano levers, and with Wheeltop, L-TWOO and Sensah? 2) From my understanding the above mentioned chinese groupsets levers (if I wish to buy just the levers on their own), are compatible with shimano's derailleurs. Scenario example; I've got Shimano 105 R7000 front and rear dérailleurs - unused/spares parts - and a bike with hydraulic grx 400 calipers in use with SM-BH90-JK hoses (10 speed). My aim is to upgrade from 10speed to 11speed mechanical but keeping the hydraulic brakes/hoses currently on the bike. By just buying compatible Shifters/levers - from one of the Chinese groupsets - as they're more affordable than the shimano's 105's etc. Any recommendations/comments are most welcome. Thank yous'. I'm having to keep postponing any entertaining thoughts of upgrades to eletronic for the same reason, costs that is.

according to wheel top Shimano bh59 is the hoses, olive and barbs used.

Great review. I prefer the rotor 13s cassettes due to the 250 gram difference but they are twice the price.
@ribblevalleycyclistАй бұрын
Agreed, the Rotor would more than likely be a better product. Saying that though, when compared to a budget Shimano cassette that would cost twice the price, the ZTTO performed well. I keep reminding myself "That thing cost £33!!". I also think someone going for the cheaper groupset like the GeX, may make this kind of cassette choice.
@hill160881Ай бұрын
@@ribblevalleycyclist I agree. Ztto does make a 420 gram 11/52 cassette but it's $140 and out of stock. I did manage to find one though. I want to see if the gex can do a 52t cog and accommodate a 41 or 42 tooth spread instead of the 40 shown on the spec sheet.

@@ribblevalleycyclist Something you will find interesting is while the 13s cassettes use the 12s chain and hubs TanTan is selling a bike with 14s cassette and chain. The chain is 0.23mm narrower and the hub is dished out 3mm more than a 12s hub. This is a review my brother and I did on the 14s complete bike. my cassette is 11 - 34t what size jockey cage would you recommend. can i use the 93mm or should i use the 75mm. i have an e-bike
@ribblevalleycyclist2 ай бұрын
You'll be fine with the smaller 75mm. 👍
@wuskyjian2 ай бұрын
I think the shorter 75mm one should be enough. Based on my experience, you need to pay close attention to the chain length when using a small cassette. If the chain is too short, it can put too much tension on the derailleur, leading to inaccurate shifting in the middle gears. I suggest using the gravel chain setup with 3 extra links.

Any info on setting b gap for 50t cassette?
@ribblevalleycyclistАй бұрын
My general rule is to turn it until the chatter between the derailleur and cassette stops, and then give it another quarter turn. That basic rule usually works for most setups, regardless of cassette size. Don't recall the GeX giving me any trouble.

hate how they name it hardest gear as a no. 1! any time i look on my computer i see inaccurate gears as this naming- mean when im on 10 gear (almost the hardest gear) of 11 i see on my display no. 2! it is no computer fault but wheeltop software issue/policy. For wheeltop hardest gear is named 1!- that stupid. I guess in china they move a car with gear no. 6 :D and fastest gear is 1 :D lol. (they must all ride a electric cars as they do not know that principles :D).Very bad
@codered250Ай бұрын
I believe it's because of programming logic. Gear one is state one. It's shelf state. One is home and will always be there regardless of configuration. If you add gears it simply adds more states and coordinates from state one. I understand it from a programming logic stance however yes it's annoying on your head unit etc. hopefully they can work it out.
