I grew up in the SF Bay Area, and we always had plain white dishes. Now I'm older and understand our trips to Cost Plus in SF were quite practical! Back then, it was a multi-floor warehouse full of wonders and magic, that smelled like wicker and tea! Almost everything was imported from China and Japan, and to me it was such a treat to see the toys and goodies. But my mother was there to buy replacement dishes, bowls and cocktail napkins, among other things! She loved poking thru the aisles and looking too, but I think we always came home with dishes to replace the ones we had broken over the past several months, along with something interesting she found. Her favorites, and we always had them, were white "lotus bowls," as she called them. They were white china bowls that looked like lotuses, and we used them for ice cream, pudding, custard, fruit cocktail--you name it. She was was an artist, very concerned about the appearance of things, and loved fine things. We had fine china we used for meals in the dining room, but for everyday casual use, it was the plain white china from CostPlus. Dishes break, but I don't remember it ever being a big deal, probably because my mom just figured it meant getting to shop at CostPlus in The City! I think the white dishes at IKEA are the modern-day equivalent!

A tip for the curtains if the colors don’t match your decor they dye really easily. I have dyed IKEA curtains in my apartment bathtub and they turned out beautifully. I am about to move to a new apartment in a couple months and plan to dye some new ones for my new decor. Thank you Kiva for all the great tips.

The shoe boxes are great for small children's toys, too. I got the pillows several years ago, both throw and lumbar, and change out the covers for the seasons. Very economical, and I do plan to get more as we've started renewing and renovating. I love their curtains! We chose the rail system for ease of use and better sun blocking coverage. Love that the rails give us a choice to use just sheers sometimes, just blocking curtains other times, or both if we want. A bit more expensive, but not terribly so. I'm such an IKEA nerd! lol

We had a bunch and I hated them -- tried to stack two rows of 4 tall next to each other, constantly fell over so I duct taped them together, they still slanted over so I attached stiff cardboard to the sides, this kept them upright but oh what an eye-sore. They're probably fine if you only stack them 2 boxes high, or wedge between something stiff, but take it from me they do have limitations!

I loved this video basically because you seem genuinely excited about these products. You have them and you actually use them. The large white bowl-Ramen noodles and other noodle dishes-perfect. The item that I was waiting for is the Ikea garlic press. I have had mine forever. Given that, maybe that don't stock it any longer. If you can get your hands on one by all means get it. It is the best one ever. Ikea milk frother-not so much. They do not last that long. I'm keeping my long life $20 frother.

I can vouch for both the ikea plastic container and bags. We use the plastic containers for cereal and it is air tight and pours really easily. My only gripe is it falls over easily it it’s standing alone. But if it’s closed, nothing spills, and on a shelf up against other containers, it not a problem. The bags are slightly less easy to seal than ziplock but not a big deal. And they last really well (I wash mine and reuse them) and are great price.
