I would estimate that buying every single expansion for Marvel Legendary has cost me about £700 over the years. But for one game, on it's own, I did spend £120 on Gloomhaven. I have also spent a few Bob getting everything for the Firefly board game and that one I freaking love to death and I want to play it more often but I need a bigger table.

Great video! Just wanted to note that you could easily spend way more than 14,000$ on a go set. The most expensive one I could find that is currently available for purchase would set you back over 100,000$ and if you include one of a kind boards and such you could definitely break one million dollars.

Some of the antique kaya gobans are difficult to put a price on because they simply aren't sold anymore. The trees they are made from take around 700 years to fully grow, and the government of Japan no longer allows them to be cut down. Prices in the range of 70k USD aren't unheard of, and boards with historical significance could easily go for hundreds of thousands.

One board game made in 1949 is called Tedi Macki Choot. They only made exactly 100 of them..That game board finally sold for $52,000 in September of 1992 there's supposedly only 4 or 5 left and the one that sold for $52K was still sealed. Most of the Tedi Macki Choot game boards they have found there's always missing pieces.

I love how this went from beautiful to hideous, from the "sweet spot" of excess with 3d Catan, Kingdom Death Monster, and other collectors editions, to hideously gaudy with solid gold monopoly and that abomination of a backgammon set. Where is your "line in the sand" for what's beautiful versus what's gross? Mine is at that Go set. Simplicity in construction, beautiful in design, ridiculous in price. Everything after that just stops looking appealing.

@@bobthebox2993 i mean, at least the crazy material was used more skillfully at the pearl chess set than at the backgamon one... i prefer more classic looking chess sets, but i didn't find that one ugly though. clue was surprisingly bad. and two or three of the games are so expensive because they are historic. like that 3 in 1 set from the 1600s.sure, not todaysaesthetics necessarily but it's a historic artefact and as such has a special value. it belongs in a museum or the atlantis monopoly. is it beautiful? not really. but it's a piece of boardgame history and as such should be expected to have a very, very high collectors value. if i could chose one of these to own ans not be allowed to sell, i would honestly pick this piece of paper. it's the start of one of the biggest game franchises in history.

That said, it's a lot of stuff. And no, I don't own all of that. More of it than I'd care to admit, but not *all* of it.

Blackstone Fortress is my most expensive game. Complete with all expansions would be in the Kingdom Death ballpark (around 2-4k). Commission painted versions, 3D printed terrain and/or additional miniatures will add increase that price. I was lucky to get the base game cheap for a good used condition version, later bought some dirt cheap mint condition base game boxes that missed only the miniatures. The expansions I bought for either discount retail or via eBay. In total I've probably spend 400-600 on the including extra miniatures and 3d printed terrain over the years. Only missing 1 card expansion (Endless Peril). I will likely wreck this potential investment when get to painting the miniatures ;)

Gotta say, some of the low entries actually look cool, and I could see a group of friends who really like those games pooling money for them (especially the 3D Catan game) Then, you have the ones that are just money-burning because they're pointlessly covered in gems or made of gold. $4 Million, if spent, saved, and invested right, would set you for life...or you could spend it on a fancy, shiny chess set. I could find a simple glass chess set that looks just as shiny and pretty for like $20 at Walmart. As for most expensive one I got, a few DnD board games worth up to $100 new that I got for Christmas one year. Never really played them much since I can't find anyone to try them out consistently.

You should make a list about insanely expensive chess pieces. That actually sounds kinda cool

Biggest board game expenditure I ever made was spending 300+$ on the dungeon expansion of Talisman. That thing is a PITA to find.

I used to own an original copy of a not well known board game, named Oilman. A big blue brick of plastic with different depth sensors that changed by shaking the board, so it would be different each play. It was a blast to play, but about 15 years ago now someone offered me $1000 cash for it, so of course I do not own it any longer! Note that I have seen it pop up from anywhere from $150 - $500, so I think I did pretty good, considering I got it for $20.
